Nope. Not really. Not entirely.

gray shirt ninja: I can't pull up the reference right now, but that sounds vaguely Halo-esque.
I see almost no correlation between the two other than the fact that they're in space and an unexpected contact.

chrono, I think I've seen some of that text on Bungie's website.
And gsn admits he didn't write that blurb.
(Edit) Now I know where that text came from.
It's one of the Cortana Letters.

I meant gsn's text, not your signature. Congratulations on 300.

Point, set, match.
I even have the reference now: The invisible Cortana message from the Myth:TFL 1.3 CD
And with that aside;

It seems like alot of TCs involve a group leaving Earth, not heard from again, and coming back later to try to kill them or what not. Of course, you could always take that idea and make it go where it hasn't been before...
A story idea I've been toying around with is a twist on that. Basically, large numbers of Human colonists flee because of a war, or fear of a war, that they believed would be the undoing of all life on Earth (A la Asimov's "Foundation and Empire"). The history given to the player then follows these refugees as they build their new homes and nations. After enough time has passed without further contact, they write off Earth as a lost cause.
The twist is that, eventually, heavily armed ships begin snooping around, scouting for resources and staking out territory, blasting anybody who tries to stop them. These ships bear a sigil that the colonists recognize from one of the last Earth militaries standing before they left, and the locus of their activity is Sol.
Well, it is true that stories involving humans that left Earth and the meeting again is common as a background story, but I'm fairly sure that what it involves after is going to differ greatly from plugs to plugs. Besides, it actually was part of the (!!!Spoiler!!!) stock nova scenario if you read the story. (/!!!Spoiler!!!)
Anyways, there is also my TC. Chaos Theory. And it has already been released in the form of an early alpha release. The main reason I believe I can pull it off is that I didn't plan on making it a huge TC.
Roughly: 100ish systems. 100ish spobs. 100ish missions. 125-150 outfits (still adding some of these..) 30ish ships, not counting their variants. More like 75 with variants.
As you can see, not the most ambitious project. Actually, it is playable already and the only things remaining are descs and missions. Some more stuff adds up as I do missions and fine-tune everything, too. The graphics are mostly the stock nova graphics, yet. However, Anaxagoras is helping me and eventually the TC might include some original designs to top it off.
I started at the end of March 2006. That means it has been a little less than 6 months.
You can find additionnal info as well as a link to download the released alpha version in this topic.

Now space existsis in a tense situation... no incursion s in claimed space....
Yet... The TC isint off the ground yet...
Wen I said that, i ment that people are in contact. think of many small independant planets, and a coupel of big empires. it's not like an ailian invasion. have anyone of you played flashtreck? its like EV, but a little diffrent... You shood try it...
Sorrery I accidentaly repet poosted

(Sorrery, Phoebus Xebdaz -- I couldn't resist a tease. Don't take it too hard. You should look into running your posts through a spell-checker before you post, though. :))
I tried that already, Doctor.
Ever heard of two television series called Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis? I'm trying to create a total conversion based on the Stargate universe. I'm steadly working on it, and I don't plan on giving up on it. Once I get a 3-D drawing program, I can give you guys a tiny taste of this total conversion: a demo featuring one new system and planet, a few new weapons, outfits, and one new ship (the F-302, which is pictured in my avatar, assuming I haven't changed it).
I things don't go well, I'll post whatever I have made so someone else can finish it.

My friend, you are lucky: this is 2006. Check my signature; there you have four free, open-source graphics programs: blender and Wings 3D for modelling, with blender doubling as a renderer and animation package, GIMP to paint and edit graphics, and Inkscape to draw vector graphics. There is also a ton of free documentation available for all of these: all you need is time (probably lots of it) to learn and create. Be brave!
I don't plan on giving up on it.
I don't think many people plan on giving up on things. Good luck though, it will be interesting to see how Stargate would be adapted to the Nova Universe, since the actual number of interstellar-travel capable starships is smaller than in a lot of other space-oriented scifi.
OOH! I just had an idea. An Animorphs based TC would be fun. I'm not volunteering to make it though.

Ah, cool, I remember reading those books in about 4th grade. Can't remember what they were about, but I remember the really cool covers on the front.

I was planning on giving up on CTC in two more monthes, but I was going to work on it until then.
I dare you to believe that.

Make me.
The thing is that I have almost as much trouble reading the yellow as reading the completely invisible white. Is that just color blindness or is that common?
