Ashen Galaxy

I've got a nice little to-do list worked up. I need to add three weapons and rename/replace five others. I also have to write up a few scientific explanations of some other weapons. If I can't do that, then those weapons will have to be changed. I'm also going to alter the acceleration of most ships so that they are less maneuverable. On the graphics side of things I'm going to redo most of the ships in the game. Finally, I'm going to do some rewrite of the missions and then write some back-story documents (similar to the Nova preambles).

I'd just like to take this opportunity to taunt you with the knowledge that I could release AG right now if I would quit changing things. Of course if I had some help it would go a lot faster...

You haven't posted in the AG dev forums. ๐Ÿ˜›

Well hurry up then!

And if you need any help...(ask me!)

I'm making progress on the writing. I've decided to not try to upgrade the graphics before release. After release someone can do that.

I gave you guys a projected release date of September 1st. Sorry I missed it, but you can blame this site for inspiring some major changes.

If you're using that site to bring about some change-inspiration, I'm interested to see how you'll manage AG. After all, while I don't make a whole lot of hard sci-fi myself, I do enjoy it, especially in games.

Obviously there are some mechanics that I can't do. Like reaction mass and heat sinks. (sneakpeek) But I can use weapons that are more or less realistic. Except for the plasma torpedoes. I like those too much. When you finally get a chance to play, you'll notice that armor and shield values scale to the size of the ship, so a fighter hasn't a chance to take out a capital ship on their own (although they do pack some powerful weapons). You'll also notice that ships aren't as easy to maneuver as in the stock scenario because a kilometer long warship isn't going to be able to turn on a dime and brake instantly. You'll probably want to capture some escorts early on because point defense systems on both sides are fairly good but they can't keep up with volume of fire. Fill the space with missiles and torpedoes and some are bound to get through. In fact, aside from a few of the more powerful missiles, you'll find that you use your primary weapons a lot. All the missiles on a human cruiser will suffice to take down the shields of an alien carrier. But then you have to destroy it's armor. The giant coilgun (inspired by the MAC in Halo) that most human ships have is the most powerful weapon in your arsenal and also the hardest to use. It deals massive damage though. And that's enough about that.

(/sneakpeek)

My own personal warning on that site would be:

Don't ruin the game-play for the sake of realism. We paid for EVN for game-play not a physics lesson.

However, I do enjoy the stuff and deus-ex-machina tend to annoy me (eg: 'Ah it's easy we just re-modulate the quanta-cobalt-torpedo to emit an anti-baryon surge' - typical Star Trek (esp. TNG & VOY)). So using that isn't a bad thing by a long way.

Good luck on the final hurdles. I lookward to the finished project

I'm so close to finishing this, I can almost taste it. I just want to play through it one more time to make sure the missions work. I've also decided to reduce the difficulty a little bit.

Do you want an external tester?

Edit: also, a number of outfits are missing outfit pictures. I did make sure I have 5+2+2+2+1 files, plus those two debug-type files... I almost had a problem because I forgot to clear out my Nova Plugins folder, but that was my own fault.

Desc problem on Titan: "efforts to penetrate it" repeated.
It is interesting to see Asteroid miners in groups.
"Drive off alien fighters" mission should never be offered again as soon as you finish it. Also, those missions should start with those ships hostile to player, because it's hard to quickly tell which ship is nearest to attack.
Of course the life forms on Mars are "native;" they were compiled for the environment and run without the need for emulation software.
This truly messes with my Nova reflexes.
Can't buy ammo for shrike turret.

Does anyone know what might cause all my asteroids to suddenly disappear? I far as I can tell all the proper graphics and resources are in place. I can say that it causes some really funny behavior in asteroid miners.

Uh, wow... How many resources do you have in the file containing the asteroid resources and/or system resources? You may have hit one of those undocumented limits with resource forks. Read all about it.

Oh by the way, I'm finished (more or less). You can download it here. This is the special EVDC pre-release version. I'll make the official release later when I have time.

I've made some slight (but important!) changes to the AG Data 1 and 2 files. I left in a debug chรคr ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm off to upload my magnum opus to the add-ons page!

Congratulations!

Now that I'm finished, I'm willing to drop that whole thing about not asking for help. Anyone who wants to join my development team is welcome to. In particular I'm looking for an artist who can do a new menu screen.

The missions where you escort the planet killer don't appear to work. I was forced to cheat past them.

Edit:Btw this was done on a PC.
