Bug squashing question

I'm running a pre-alpha version of Rift, and it usually starts up just fine. However, when I start up Nova now, I get an assertion failure at "sprite.c 1583 N/A".
I've searched throughout the data and I can't find a RLE8 or RLED with the ID 1583. I can't find any resources that refer to 1583. If it was an RLE8/RLED file which it should be because it said sprite file it should refer to an engine glow mask because it is an odd number in between 1400 and 1599. There are no mask resources though, but the shän has a field where you just enter the ID after the main ID for the mask. It should be the mask for an engine glow 1582(which doesn't exist). However, I find it suspicious because I just put in a shän that refers to an RLED engine glow 15 38. The RLED it refers to is named correctly. Any thoughts, conclusions, ideas, answers?

I'm not sure, but I think that even if you have an rle* for the sprite (main, glow, whatever), you still need a corresponding mask value. But again, I'm not sure.

Nova got corrupted. Try re-installing it.

The number refers to the line number of the code that crashed, not any particular sprite ID as far as I know.

The number is indeed the line number in the file sprite.c where the error occurred. I may be able to give you a more accurate description of the error later today when I get home: I have spriteworld and can give you the error at that line number assuming it isn't one of the many things Nova changed.

When you say reinstall, is downlaoding the newest version and just replacing the old version with it in the Nova Folder count as reinstalling? Or is it the Rift data files that are corrupted?

Ok, I downloaded Nova again and deleted the preferances from the old one. With the Rift files in, it still had the problem. With normal files, it started up fine. The problem then has to be with Rift I think.

Check your debuglog.txt.

A few resources are essential for running nova. They are not of the usual type (syst , spob, etc...). Make sure you have all of them in the rift datafiles.

I had this problem for a while, I'm not sure why. It was there for a while and has since gone away. I fixed it by removing the log files totally- it seems generating them was the problem.

I think he means the pilotlog.txt and debuglog.txt files that many developers put in the folder with nova to help them with tracking down and eliminating bugs in their plugs. Do a search for more info if you've got no idea what I'm talking about.

The weapon issues are because I've changed many early weapons but the later ones still refer to the old ones for ammo. And I fixed the mission, even though it was a Nova problem. It still didn't work.

(EDIT) I see your problem has been solved in another thread.

As for the original topic, I've seen that error message myself, but I don't happen to remember what the cause was. It may have been the error that popped up once or twice when I didn't have Ttäb resource (from Nova Graphics 1) in my data files (although I only needed that resource for a couple of days, and then it became unneccesary again).
