One question: is it possible to have things like comets flying through systems? View Post
Roids...
They don't have to just be asteroids. I'm using them for derelect/damaged ships, comet-like things, etc. I don't need 16 kinds of asteroid so I used them for other things.
NovaTools makes that confusing though. Why can't the fields just be like roid:1 Roid:2 etc instead of listing the ATMOSian types? I can fix that, I suppose...

EVNEW has the same issue.
Time to start working on the TC again...
Starting up Blender3d. Yes, I'm using Blender 3d for 3d.

scale problem View Post
Has EV games ever had real scale on anything. I higly doubt it. And the stars can be further away right. There is no scale problem imo.

True, there has never been scale in EVN. I mean, the Laviathan is longer than some planets. Scale, I don't think so.
I have a cargo ship that's 375 pixels long... And all of my fighters are about 20*20.
I'm using a bell curve to help with my scale: More exagerated for smaller ships, but progressively larger and they start to bottom out.

My curve operates as such: The smaller a ship is, the more it's size relative to other ships is exagerated. Larger ones, between themselves, show very little difference, but tower over the smaller ones, who's scale amongst themselves is more evident.
Hopefully this little picture will help explain things...
Intresting. Alot of the cap. ships in my TC are between 5 and 8 thousand meters long. They use about the same scale as yours, atleast in the concept art. As it is set several hundred years after Nova this is to show the advance of technology, they won't actually be in scale to Nova ships or they would be huge. So far the largest ship in the game, the Mek'nar Main Cruiser, is 10,000 meters long. It is very well armed, has high shields and armor, and can defeat most any ship.
This is being used in my plug. Don't use it without my permision or else.

Don't worry about that. Trust me.

But do they scale to the planets.
I´m no star trek fan. But they are not scaled to the planets. They are way to huge.
And this was a sun/planet/ship scale issue.
To add scale to NOVA in every aspect it would require you to sacrifice gameplay.
But then again there is no reason. You can get away with not doing it, because no one can deside how far from the "camera everything is"
Uncle twitchys scaled ships are cool, and playable because it is limited to the ships. And because it adds realism.
rmx: I like that.. real, and useable at the same time.

Good. My older bro is Navy SEAL. I pity somone who tries to copy my work without my permission.
I'm working on a wedsite for the plug. Should be up in a little bit.
This is going on too far... Cllicking a button.

Ok.
Enough of that. Back to the topic.

My uncle was in Vietnam. He needed three years of therapy sessions just to get back to what resembled sanity(whatever that is). He took me hunting last summer, for deer. I shot a doe. He caught a badger with his bare hands, along with the deer. And he asked me if I wanted to pet it. Then it tried to bite him, and it managed to get its teeth in his leg. He snapped its neck with one hand.
Don't mess with rmx256, or a very deranged looking, heavyset Norwegian man will appear at your door. With a badger.
And I want to see that site.
Note: We of the Eternal Wars team have decided to put dwarf stars in some (very few) systems. And scale shouldn't be a problem. White/Red Dwarves are about the size of Earth, no?
No problem, but it's not up yet. I'll post it when it is.
My great-grandfather was in the infantry in WWII and Korea. I've heard alot of stuff.
Badgers? Norwegians? Wasn't Mr. Sörensen was affiliated with Martin Turner, not me?
I'd have a crazy Egyptian, I'd think

Crazy Egyptian?
I'd go for Russian Spetsnaz (Ididn't spellit write, I know) but thats just me.
Oh and Batlestar Galactica, Stargate SG1, and Stargate Atlantis are much better than Star Trek. smile.gif
Better than Enterprise, certainly. Better than Trek as a whole? Tougher to call. When you've got 5 series and 28 seasons, you can pull a lot of great stuff from among the rubbish. DS9 in particular was very high-quality, particularly during the latter half of its run.
Oh, and Firefly rocks as well, just for the record! That would actually be the reason I'm basing a TC on it, after all.....
But enough of that.
Regarding the scale issue, I don't think it matters. There's no way to reasonably make things to scale in Nova.
Yes. Scale is nice but gameplay is more important. If you can get the two to work together, good job. If not, don't worry about it. For me anything more about 6000 meters is going to look about the same in length.
Scaling ships to one another is the best one can hope to achieve -- scaling spöb graphics becomes problematic because even if you limited it to our solar system, making a spöb of Earth that was scaled to ships would be ridiculouly huge, and Jupiter would fill even a 30" Apple monitor. Let's not talk about the Sun.
When I sized the planets in SFA, I tried to make the average spöb look about the size relative to the Constitution class about the size ratio you saw in the typical Enterprise orbit shot -- larger than standard spöbs in Nova, but still manageable. Again, the goal was to emulate the original series (I'm still thinking about re-rendering all the ship shäns to reflect those orbiting angles and camera perspectives as well...)
