Wings for this one, and most of my recent ones. Still use Strata for modelling occasionally. Probably use it more once CS comes out 🙂

The laggyness of Wings sounds weird to me. It ran smooth as anything on my old Powerbook G3 under Jaguar (400MHz, 8Mb ATI Rage Pro Graphics Card, 320Mb RAM). I've not used the latest version on that machine, but I dont think that would change too much...

I have a 233 Mhz G3 iMac, 128 megs of RAM, and the Video card that came with it ( 4 megs) and a Power Computing Powerwave with a Sonnet Crescendo G4 450 Mhz upgrade card, and 512 megs of RAM, but I don't want to spend $120 on a Radeon 7000 ( the Power Computing machine only has PCI slots, and that is the only Mac Edition PCI card I could find :frown: ) I am going to get more RAM for my iMac ( 512 megs)

How do you model in Wings and then render/ add textures in Strata? Also how on the Final Eclipse did you get the shark and other textures in the right place? mine usually end all funky...

I can do graphics if the project comes up.. I can easily make a Nova ship out of my corsair, and many other ships, and shipyard graphics etc.. I have no experience making missions, and my desc´s aren´t really great, due to english not being my first language. I can make great desc´s in Norwegian 😄 though.

What we need is a person really comitted, and who has the resources to put all this together.

I got a little bit behind on the Arbiter that I am modeling because I couldn't find a good pic of one... but I got one now and I should have a rendered pic of it up in a day.

How close to the original should it look?

(edit: Jules: do you plan on making a tutorial for Wings 3D? I know there are some out there on the Web, I just thought it would be cool if you made some. (based on space things like ships and weapons))

I made these a while ago.

Armor recharge: I just converted the armor rating for each unit into points per second. Zerg get an additional pt/s because they regen already.
Shield Recharge: protoss get 1 pt a sec, roughly. Terran and Zerg need Def. Matrix, and it wears off. Protoss would be prohibited from getting the Def. Matrix.
Cost: credits = (Minerals * 10 + Gas * 20) * Time (my friend says I'm evil, for that formula and for my fake ocular implants idea)

Heh, I was just going to post an image on another topic and found this image I uploaded. It was just a size test of the Wraith (in a very untextured state). Gives kind of a good idea how it'll look in the game. What do you think of the size? Too big, too small, or just about right? Looks about right to me (as per the game), but I'll leave the final descision up to you guys 🙂

I kinda got sidetracked and haven't been making much progress. Sorry.
I reread Liberty's crusade. They keep talking about Neosteel Armor, so whoever ends up doing outfits, make sure that gets in there. There are also mentionings of a Leviathan Class Battlecruiser.

Another thought just occured to me: if we set the game after the Terran Campaign, then Terran space has already been trashed. All the systems we know of have been infested by the Zerg and then burned into a cinder by the Protoss, and we'd have to make up just about every Terran planet except for Korhal, Umoja, Moria and Braxis.

So, I guess, the solution is probably to revert all the way back to just prior to the Zerg invasion. Terran players then start off doing whatever trade or pirating they want, and then join up with the Sons of Korhal. We could either end the Terran String there, and make just make one other protoss string for the protoss player, or we could make an overarching story for the Terrans that eventually leads to teaming up with Raynor and Tassadar.

I don't know. I'm beginning to think it may be best to just have one character, a Terran, and then give him/her access to protoss outfits later on via missions, and maybe get Zerg stuff in a sort of enslavers sub-plot.

Geeze. So many possibilities. Since I can't settle on missions, I think I'll start doing planet descs instead, since we're going to need them anyway and they're probably more immediately important than missions.

The size is perfect, Jules. I think you should copy the model and leave one at this point and continue to model the wraith with the other. The Terran Wraith was apparently known as the Pheonix at some point in SC development (no one bothered to rename the sprite frames), so I think that having a kind of prototype wraith as a ship variant would be interesting.

I took the corsair for a spin in Nova, and also RLE-d the wraith so I could do the same with it. I gotta say, I'm impressed with both. The glows on Modesty's ship are particularly impressive, as is the overall crispness of Jules' sprite model.

If Jules has no objection, I can post a link to the provisional wraith sprite plug here.

It's interesting to load up Paint Station Prime alongside the plugs for the ships, to experiment with different colorings for them.... If you guys go with govt color tinting as a major part of the plug, you clearly will have to do some experimenting to figure out what colors to put on the base sprites so they look good tinted. My initial impression is that you will likely want to go with light tint colors atop sprites that are mostly white, with some brightly-colored detail regions and with lighting that doesn't produce very deep shadows (adding the tints will darken the shadows).

I was never able to produce anything even remotely resembling 2D. Some were even 1D! 😉
