    RE: Stargate SG-1 mod?

Myles, although your offer of help and enthusiasm are no doubt appreciated, it might be worth noting that there are those around here that consider digging up a topic from nearly a year an a half ago grave-digging. Generally topics die for a reason - lets just leave them be 🙂

On a side note, I actually agree. The gates are not actually that necessary. If you bring in the IDC Codes for the Iris then getting always using a stargate to travel doesn't make that much sense. I had an idea for a human string, based on the context of the plug being in the future, after the Ori war. You are a young pilot in the (either US or insert United-Earth government name here) and to start off, you need to (as ever) gain favour with the authorities by doing cargo ship supply runs for the government. After a while you are selected to join an off world mission through the stargate.

Bit of story comes in here. After going though the gate you and your team are attacked and you are the only survivor. The stargate in heavily guarded and you can't fight through alone. After walking for weeks in the wilderness yourself at a (now abandoned of course) Goa'uld mining facility. There is an old damaged cargo ship that with a bit of work you manage to get going again and take off. You are lost on the other side of the galaxy in hostile territory.

Some missions can go here so you can find a Tokra planet to gate back to Earth. After your daring escape from death you are summarily rewarded with the captaincy of a new something class vessel and access to Earth's (since now in the future, highly expanded fleet of ships).

From here you can have missions in the ships and also some through the stargate via the means set out previously, rescuing teams trapped on hostile planets, etc and a larger story-line can emerge.

Regardless, it would be a cool TC but I doubt it will happen and I have long since given up developing.

RE: How do you use them after you make tham?

Well, if you're using Wings, then you need to export the model to a useable format (.3ds is probably best) then open it in a 3d program that can render.

Texture it then render out the sprites through a 360 degree rotation in 10 degree intervals. Take these pics and use photoshop or something similar to put them in a 6x6 grid formation. Make a mask and by selecting all the black area around the ship and copying that into a new file. If you export those as bitmaps then you can now use EVNEW to import them to a plug-in.

This will only make a basic ship. If you want running lights, glows, etc that will need to be done at the modeling and rendering stage. Glows are best done by modelling the engine glows and using textures to make them look like engine glows. Lights can be done by placing point lights on the ship where you want them. You will then need to make a matt black texture for the ship and render images of the glows and the lights and mask them too.

Gets a bit more complicated once you get outside the realms of a basic ship...

    RE: New TC, Need Graphics

    1. Yes, but it requires you make new dialogue boxes (or at least hack the old ones up a bit.

    2. You could by making two versions of a ship. One for the dudes to use (with no battery, hence no jumping) and one for other dudes and the player to use. Even then I dont know if it would work.

    3. My 1GHz G4, with 32Mb Graphics and 1Gb of RAM has no problem handling most of what I throw at it NOVA wise. Only when they start to take up much of the screen in a battle does it slow down.

    4. Again by editing the dialogue boxes and removing the dominate button.

    5. Dont know, but I's doubt it.

    RE: Openning STEVO models...

Unfortinately, you are pretty much out of luck. Unless you purchace Strata (www.strata.com), you wont be able to open the models.

You could always find some nice person out there to convert them for you - I would offer myself, but I'm busy and really cant be bothered.

    RE: Openning STEVO models...

Are you sure they arent .s3d? I don't know why but I seem to remember that the STEVO models were made using Strata (which uses the .s3d file format).

Besides, MAX isn't available for the Mac and EVC and EVO were not available for the PC so it would make sense that they were made on a Mac.

    RE: Shipyards.

I used to have a free shipyard up, but I lost a lot of the files in a system crash. Found a lot of them since then, but I'm still working on getting it back up and running. Just need to get the perfect interface 😛

RE: My plug in is going Nova! Run!

And there are convertors that turn .rez into a Mac Nova plug-in.

You may be developing it on windows which did need mentioning, granted, but that doesnt mean it will only be available for Win Nova users which is what you are saying. That is bollocks. Unless tou use bits which are now used on Mac Nova then it should work fine. You would then be shooting yourself in the foot for when the new version of Win Nova is released.

RE: My plug in is going Nova! Run!

Just a small point. It is completely stupid and pointless to say that you are developing the plug for Windows only. It is elitist and defunct since the plugs can be converted from Windows to Mac or vice versa EXTREMELY easily.

Stating over and over that you are developing for Windows just makes it look like you are trying to make a point. Don't be a twat.

So to add some more relevance - is anyone involved in making any plugs for N(Override) at the moment? I've got a pretty neat storyline in my head for something in that universe, to make things a little less black and white (or rather to make black white and vice versa).

I am still working on NOverride at the moment. It is going to be a rework of the Override TC for NOVA featuring all new graphics all round, storyline tweaks, expansions, and reworking, andvarious other enhancements.

Website will be up once I get my domain transferred.

I wish you good luck. I still would prefer, personally, to stick with ResEdit.

Which you can't get on a PC so its kind of a moot point...
