would it be possible to make a second set of engine glows in ev nova for a home-made ship that was activated when the ship entered hyperspace? (url="http://"http://img13.photobucket.com/albums/v39/Corndog/J-17_Views.jpg")this(/url) is the ship i plan to use for the sprite. so could i make the big engine in the middle active all the time, and the engines on the nacelles active only during hyperspace?

Now, I'm not 100% on this but what you could do is have alternate sprites and check the unfold to jump flag... Just have them on for the alternative sprite.
Kind of like the NOVA Argosy and just have the engine glows on for the unfolded version

thats EXACTLY what i was thinking, right down to the argosy's folding. i just wanted to know if anyone knew 100% because i didnt want to make all those extra frames if it wouldnt work. those frames are a lot of extra work when all you have is bryce to work with. but meh...its better than nothing!
Just remember: it will also "fold" when landing and "unfold" when taking off. Of course, this may not matter to you, and besides, it would probably look kinda cool anyway. But I figured I'd remind you just in case.

real simple to have normal and jump glows together.

Nice animation. I guess having it also activate what taking off isn't a problem (they can also be atmospheric thrusters or something).

Takeing off would only be a problem if the animation took too long. You may see it if you are always pressing the forward button before you leave a planet. Yet the animation should be done before you realy get going anywhere.

That's what I was thinking.
i was gonna make 36 frames for the normal spin and glow, then 72 more frames with the extra glows. then when i put it in the plugin, i would check the "extra frames are animation" flag. is this right? i just dont want to botch it up and have to go back and redo it.
The first 36 sprites are the spin when completely unfolded. The last 36 are completely folded. Inbetween are as many sets as you want of 36, as you want it to appear when folding. Look at the Argosy or Asteroid Miner for an example.

Does it really matter? AAC only made that up as an example of how this could be done, not an actual solution. Using the argosy was because it is a good example of unfolding to jump. The argosy doesnt have additional engines in the nacelle type things

For the record, I have successfully acheived this result, so it is possible.
If you only have two sets of base graphics---64 frames---and they're completely identical, you can just put the 36 hyper glows to match the first 36---that's the upper half---and the sublight glows to match the second 36.
