I agree, AnubisTTP.

I think of it a little differently, although the basic principles are the same. I build and write the scenario for fun, because I want to, and I release the finished work. I personally feel that most people who would download and play a TC would either have broadband or at least ask some other people whether it was worth playing or not, and that I would have nothing to feel regret for if it were free ('I want my money back?!?').

Exactly, the only reason I make ships for the plug is because I like the storyline and the ideas involved, and there is a great deal of satisfaction in seeing one's creations come to life in a game like nova. That said, I never actually got around to finishing the ore freighter for you this week. My brother came home one day with Ghost Recon and Raven shield so I've been... busy.
But I'll get bored soon enough, don't worry!

Don't think like that, hey I know Factions isn't going to be as popular or as impressive as SFA or SS but that doesn't mean I'm going to give up! It will have its charm and there will be those who like it and those who don't and thats cool by me. I'm not going to lose any sleep at night worrying that a plugin someone built in there spare time is more popular than one I did in my spare time. Sure SS andd SFA are going to be big and polished but if everyone else gives up then they're going to get pretty boring, I mean you can make it as variable as possible but there is a finite number of times you can play a plugin before it just gets tiresome and thats where other plugins come in. As good as FH was I couldn't play it at the expense of all other plugins, it was brilliant but it wasn't infinite.
to end this rant (as it is now becoming) don't be intimidated by larger, more popular plugins, just get out there and make your own little piece of EV history!

For the record, I do plan to release what I've got on my Firefly TC in the event I ever stop work on it. So that won't go down the drain.
However, I do plan to at the least get something playable in the not-to-distant future. I've already got over 50 spobs with descs, and using a program called Terragen has vastly increased the number of landscapes I've got; I've cut some corners by borrowing EVN planet spins, but I plan to fix that once this is playable. All that's left for that is to add some more descs (say, for spaceport bars), finalize a galacic map, and syst it out.
Ideally, I'd get a really engrossing storyline written, but that's secondary. I've seen too many projects disappear entirely to risk putting too much on my plate at once......
I will say this: Right now, the biggest hurdle I have to a playable version is a lack of ship graphics. Anyone interested in helping with that, I'd welcome.....this mod is, so far, kind of a free-for-all with stuff submitted by lots of people, and then organized by me, so it'd be nothing new.
------------------
I'd just like to say that any new TC is welcome by me, even if it's an old one I've just never played.
Originally posted by Mazca: **I have huge numbers of descs, ideas, and even a galactic map made up for my TC... it was going to be for EVO, but then I decided that it had to be Nova or nothing, as that's where the audience is.
But over the last few months my enthusiasm for it has waned... it's never going to be a TC anywhere near the size, innovation or polish of Sephil Saga or SFA, and at this rate those plugs will be out before mine anyway. It all comes down to the fact that I do not want to share the work. I intend to make the plugin in a fully completed state with placeholder graphics, then seek a graphic artist to do the ships for it... but in terms of programming and writing I want it to be all my own work.
We'll have to see if The Resurgence ever actually gets anywhere.
That's pretty much how I'm running things for my TC as well.

Yea. I think lack of co-ordination and determination in teams and such is mostly to blame. Me, i just ran out of time to bother with making my plug. It's still chugging along, but don't get your hopes up, it would probably not be of any worth untill 6 years from now...
Also there is kinda this stigma of, A TC must surpass nova in every way and be better. Yea right...

It's possible and probable. While Nova is entertaining, I really don't find it that creative, entertaining or whatnot. I think the primary concern is mapping out concepts beforehand for the TC. The primary issue I have with TC's and any plug-in with a plot is that they're either cliche or the plots seem to be splashed together when the plug was in full development. It analogous to writing an essay without doing an outline first, your essay will not be cohesive, seeming to ramble, and it will probably not win you accolades nor earn you a good grade in school.

If you're not completely strapped for cash, I highly recommend the DVDs. To everyone, not just you. They're only $34 at Amazon, for 15 of the best hours of TV this century. I've found that, when seen in the proper order (including the pilot Fox aired last instead of first), FAR, far more people love Firefly than not. (Both Buffyverse and non-Buffyverse fans alike.)
Plus, there's the advantage that you'd be better able to help with the mod.
If you want something to try, how about having a go at a graphic for an Alliance cruiser? Those things are far huger than could possibly be made to scale, and as such will be downsized a bit for the game----so the detail doesn't have to be that good. Just the general shape.

I would think that at your level in EV editing you would be used to this kind of disrespectful commentary. We get this same kind of null statement from users in SIM Racing as well. Why don't you try actually playing a TC besides Polycon?

Well, I don't have the cash on hand this moment to buy the set, but my local video shop has it. So I'll rent 'em. Greatest video store ever, has a helluva lotta tv shows, and a billion indie movies that you've never heard of, btu kick ass.

Hmmm... my plug in is going to be released imminantly if you expand your view of time to view imminantly as "this decade" : ) Actually I have been working silmultaniously on the novel and plug parts, which slows me down in the short run but probably will prove advantageous in the long run.

In any case, yes, there definately are some really poorly done storyline plugs out there. There are also some good ones though. -Az

Not for EVN. But two very well done TCs for EVO come to mind.
And yes, my TC is coming along very well, and although I don't want to give release dates, it shouldn't be too terribly long now...

Azratex, how did you manage to amass 1782 posts without discovering that before EVN there was EV and EVO? There's a world of amazingly plotted plugins and TCs out there. EVN has a much better game engine and therefore much better graphics. However, you would have to go a long way before you could find plots like Eye of Orion and Angels of Vengeance, not to mention Clavius and Beyond, Battle Velocity/Oreste, Pale, and, if might be so bold as to mention, Frozen Heart and Femme Fatale.
If you're on this Developer's Board, you owe it to yourself to learn the rules of plugin making by playing through the classic plugins for EV and EVO. We will NEVER see plugins to match the classics if the next generation of developers fail to learn from them.
Some people wanted to write off black and white movies when technicolor came in, and some people wanted to write off silent films when talkies came in. But noone has ever managed to equal The Seventh Seal or the Seven Samurai in terms of film-making ability in their own genres. And, equally, the classic Charlie Chaplins are still classics.
Film making has improved dramatically since 'Star Wars', but 'Attack of the Clones' doesn't equal the original in terms of achievement.
Back to games, Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III had better game engines than the original Tomb Raider game, but most people who decide to replay one of them decide to go back to Tomb Raider rather than the slicker successors.
