I have added another alteration of my design
I used the ResEdit icons to fill in what I thought was too much negative space. The icon on the right, I want to replace it with another developing software icon because right now what you see is kind of a place holder. So anyways, what do you think?

I was thinking about it for awhile, hmm does anybody else agree that I should put the EVONE logo in place of the one that's on the right side of the EV Dev Badge?
Oh, and just in case you're curious about what background fills up the oval, the right side has the background elements of the original EV web badge, the ones with planets and stuff. The left side uses the background that you will see in EV: Nova's Webboard, the ones with schematic design in red lines.
Well, well, well, I see other people are trying to change what I've been a little miffed at for months
In trying to design a new logo remember the following things:
One: Form Follows Function, what does this image do? Well, three things. First and foremost, it's an image that shows you where in Ambrosias web boards you are, in this case, the EV developers corner, it should therefore be a piece of eye-candy that shows all versions of EV and, somehow, that you can edit them (a wrench would be good for this purpose). Next, it's a placeholder to keep that piece of negative space occupied by something, more eye-candy again. And finally, it's a link back to the web boards overview, it doesn't have to represnt that in any way, but that's what it is.
Two: The people at Ambrosia are smart (if the moderators read this, you can be as flattered as you like). They've designed GUI's for many app's, each one different. If my mentor is of anywhere close to the same caliber, and if they care, you'll be slammed for each little flaw, slammed probably wasn't the right word, more like kindly slammed. A web page is also a GUI in it's own respect, if things are standardized throughout a web page it makes it easier to navigate. Going to look at the other EV section badges you'll see that EV, EVO, and EVN are simply the game logos. The Image Gallerey has a nice representative logo, the EV Chat badge is a pile of @#&$%#@ crap (but who am I to mess with imperfection) You effectivley have the hardest badge to make becuase of it's original nature.
Three: As it stands, according to Mantaray is one of three images, the first is Coraxus, I like it, except for the rough edges on the cube, that was done with a good idea and Photoshop, and the two opposing Resedit icons, unfourtinatley, those ResEdit icons are 32x32 and don't look very good even at that size. If you are going to include that icon you're gunna need to drill up a new one, preferably at 128x128 to scale down. I do think there's to much negative space though.
The next is Artanis, I like that one to, it's just far to small, I'd like to see it scaled up by about 200%, just to see it in more detail.
And finally Mantaray, even though it is much simpler than the other two examples there is something to be said for that. And yes, it is an ugly color.
I'm not a moderator and I won't be deciding in the end, but I have noticed that these are good starts that need some work. Just to show you that I'm not all talk I'll interject one of my own into the contest this week, and please, by all means, pound me as hard as you like.

Yeah, I think you should use the EVONE icon instead of redundant ResEdit icons. Perhaps include the wootware logo. I like your design the best.

Okay, here's another improvement, what's a little different is the background. As for what Mantaray saying about drawing up a new icon. I wonder if you mean by finding a ResEdit icon that is bigger that the usual icon size. Well, the only source that I could find of that icon was when I duped a copy of ResEdit itself and opened it with "ResEdit" copied it's large icon that you see animated and scaled it down. However it was hardly any different than the ones I put up originally. I also tried to enhanced the title a bit just so that it would show up. Anyways what do you think?
I think the pink/red is a little strong. Maybe green? I don't know. I defer to another person.

I agree, I like the title the way it was. You should contact the person that is making EVONE so that they can get you the icon for the right side.
Okay, I fixed it, you were right, too much red meat. Anyways, I am trying to best contact AriosSW and see if they will allow me to add their icon to my webbadge. I've visited their website and I found one picture which I assume might be the EVONE icon. Frankly it's too much like Nova because all they added was just the fighters and removed the notches but that's about it.
If I use 'that' I'm afraid that during the shrinking process, those fighters will hardly show up and the icon will end up looking like the original Nova plug. Maybe it's not the icon, but I'm not sure. Anyways I will try to use just to see if it works or not.
Coraxus, I was wondering why your badge is so pixilated. It seems like you've been using way to much JPEG compression or something.
Has anybody considered doing the plug cube in 3D. I think you could texture the sides then render it with an alpha channel, take the render and simply stick it in a layer on the photoshop file using a mask. Makes sense to me.

Actually I first tried doing these icons in a 3D cube, the problem was that when I rendered them, it still came out sort of fuzzy and if I added texture to it, it would obscure it more. And what part of the badge is pixelated? I've tried everything I can to make the badge look crisp and clear, the edges on the cube. I don't think I can make it any crisp that what it is already. If I turned of the anti-alias, then it would look horrible.

You failed to mention that Crillee also the font used for the scan images in EV and EVO.
I kinda like it, I still think you should anti-alias the Escape Velocity text by hand. You could also try to take a larger Nova logo, cut out the "Escape Velocity" text and scale it down. It'll anti-alias itself when it scales (gotta love bicubic scaling).
Try scaling down the ResEdit icon, even if it's a little shorter it'll still look better.

Personally I dont think it is ethically correct to put the EVONE icon in. Since Arios Software arent actually affiliated with ASW and are merely 3rd party developers, I feel that it is in appropriate to have their icon in. They arent the only developers out there. It doesnt bug me too much but it isnt right.

Yeah, but this software has been design strictly to work with all the Escape Velocity series, therefore it would feel right to be added up there since this board is about developing stuff for all Escape Velocity games, and isn't ResEdit too a 3rd party development software?
And before some of you tear me apart incritizing me for not including MissionComputer, EV Edit, EV God, and all those program.
Here's the reason why EVONE was chosen.
1. I needed something to fill up the negative space. 2. 2 icons is sufficient enough, adding more will clutter up the design and make it less functional. 3. ResEdit and EVONE have something in common, they can edit all Escape Velocity series. 4. I believe that alot of people here are anxious for EVONE to come out and will seem to be the one software that will become the standard friendly user program for creating EV series plugin.

Like I said before, I took that off from the Nova Webboard Badge. If you say that it has to be fixed, then you might as well be saying that the Nova Webboard Badge should also be fixed. So far, that title has not had it's size changed or anything. The only change I did was when I colored it red, but I reverted it back the way it was (about 99% of it back, but still...).

Did you read the other posts? AriosSW said he would be honored if the EVONE icon was used. Or do you not think that it is appropriate because it isn't directly affiliated with the developers corner? It will be, I'm sure.
