It was so pathetic it wasnt even funny. There were 10 battlecrusiers and 20 destroyers in the Ragani system.
"all destroyers fire 10 quantum torpedos at the Lazria and all battlecrusiers fire 20 quantum torpedos at it.fire ......NOW!"......

MOD: Sorry grundulator. You can fire on them, and you can damage them, but you can't destroy them and you have to let Whitehawk defend himself. The Veridan could easily have just turned around and ran.

The Flagship returns, and Dave hears of what Lawrence did. And orders him into a forcefield cell until Dave decides what to do with him.

"Kayan Laziras, Our flagship in en route, you can dock at its executive port when it gets back. "
a few hours later, the flagship enters the system, with a couple of Horoth escorts.
The Laziras dock, and the Kayans immediately meet the leader, Dave. "Good to
meet you Kayans." "Nice to meet you premiere, we are thrilled at the chance of an
alliance." "As are we. However, we need to get right to the point. The Akrahd have
increased raids on my space, and the pirates sre getting restless since we
stopped allowing freightors to go north. The piarates actually raided on of my
moons, and won. The RA are able to hold them and the Akrahd off, but
we have very few ships left to patrol. The RA are asking for help. We are working on
a supercruiser-class vessel, and we'd appreciate techs donated. The building and
research will be a great stress on our economy, but as our ally you will benefit from
the vessel." the Kayan captains respond.....

Another message is sent to the Horoth, asking them for techs for the cruiser.

The Veridan took hits from one torpedo before it did a risky manuver, it tilted 180 downwards. As another torpedo hit, Voan said, "All weapons fire full on the closest ship. I want to bring it down." The Zidagar captain pointed at the ship on screen, a battlecrusier. He was feeling the battlelust set in. When the captain got out alive, poems would be writen about this battle. The Lazria fired on the ship, weaving past torpedos, her weapons blazing and the SAD modules pounding shields. The Veridan however was hit by another bunch of torpedoes.

As the ship was passed about, the weapons officer said, "Sir, all weapons are offline and our SADs have all been launched. Worse yet, hyperspace drive is down. We're going down. Any other orders sir?" Voan had lived a good life, more then forty passing. He had seen his childern grow up and when they left and he stood, he knew it was with purpose. Voan would see them in the Beyond. He looked at the faces of his crew and said, "Helm take us in. Give me RAMMING SPEED!" His tone was full of battle and his will was strong. "Communications, send a message to Hawk Kael. It is in three one file and will be sent in a sudden burst, too fast for Ediens to track. May Draven be with us and the Kiran after we are gone. Computer, activate self-destruct alpha one." Everyone nodded and the Veridan, a good ship and good crew, went in at full speed and maximum burn, heading into the battlecrusier. The sheer speed caused it to rip through the shields of the crusier and into the hull of the Edien ship. By then auto-desrtuct set in and the ship bursted into nothing, leaving the battlecrusier badly damaged, perhaps beyond repair...

Hawk lay aboard the Nisim, sleeping. In his dreams, he saw his clan again. But it wavered as he awoke to a beeping sound. Hawk got up, somewhat grouchy. He had helped to oversee the project again. This time they had managed to get the light interface to run porperly.

Hawk looked at the small screen on the farthest wall of his alcove and said, "Veiw message, code Draven." This better be important. An image of Voan appeared and he started to speak.

"We fight for Draven and we die for him. Let our deed of the day shine for a thousand days and nights. We are Kiran and we die for a cause. Let this deed also be marked by the Zidagar race, whom we also serve. We shall see you in the Beyond." With that the screen went blank. Hawk fell to the floor and cursed. He should've kept the Veridan here, but they were some of the best he had. It would be a hard time to tell his family...if he ever got the chance. Hawk shoved the feeling aside. Tomorrow there would be a ceremony to celebrate those who had died aboard the Veridan.

Hawk went back to bed, but now his dreams were plauged by the images of exploding Lazrias.

"We understand that the building of your cruiser is a massive undertaking", the Kayan commander responded, "And that it will be a great drain on your resources. We are sorry to hear of the attacks on your space and would like to help you. One thing we have access to that you do not is pursuit missiles - a standard weapon on our Kayan variant aradas and Laziras. We've managed to upgrade it's strength only minimally in the six years that we've been here, so it's pretty much the same weapon you're used to from the Milky Way. We could also offer assistance optimizing your sensors. We realize that you already have quite advanced sensors, but we Kayans are detection experts, and might be able to pull a few tricks you hadn't thought of. We would offer our defense mines, but since those are only suitable for high speed bombing runs, something that a cruiser class ship would be incapable of, we don't think it would be of much use, unless we converted them to work as some kind of projectile weapon. Keep in mind that the largest ship the Kayans use on a regular basis is the Kayan Gunship, which is slightly smaller than a Crescent Warship, though decisively more agile and better armed. We don't have much experience or knowledge building dreadnaught class vessels. Also, the Horoth have armor enhancing technology, which would be of great use on a large cruiser class vessel. You might ask them to help enhance your hull strength in this endeavor."

"Perhaps the greatest assistance we can be of is in our efforts to re-establish a link to the Milky Way through the rift," A Kayan scientist spoke up. "If our theories are correct, our trip through the rift left a residual energy strand through the subspace layer we passed through. That's what's causing the energy residue that's showing up on all your ships, and on some of ours. If the Federation and Voinians are still there, we might be able to re-establish contact, or at least recieve messages from the other side. We'll also offer the assistance of our milita if you want it. We're willing to increase the range of our patrols to cover your core worlds, to allow your forces to focus more on defending your borders. That is, assuming you want the assistance."

-----

Kayan vessels in the Galactica system noticed that Crescent Fighters were becoming a less and less common sight, replaced by sleeker, smaller, more numerous Kayan Fireflies. The smaller vessels zipped around at dizzying speeds, sometimes buzzing freighters and Gunships (though the Militia had issued a warning against this practice, it still occured from time to time). The Fireflies were proving agile and able fighters, and fun to watch from the windows of South Tip Station.

That sector of space was ravaged by the Edien invasion. The Ediens totally devastated that area with nuclear and biological weapons, heavy planetary bombardment, and firebombing. Over 12 billion Miranu died, over 4 billion on Mira alone. Today that sector of space is a forbidding ghost land, where not even the Ediens visit. The only occasion when they actually do enter that area is to dump garbage on some of the planets. Everyone one of the planets smell of acrid black smoke, rotting boddies, and the stench of destruction. All stations in the area are now debris fields, one moon in the area was turned to a molten ball of red hot magma, and the Mirava system is filled with gas clouds left over from the great battles. They are composed of debris, plasma, gases left over from detonated warheads, and stuff like that. There are also a few scattered sub-space tears which formed from heavy weapons fire. Finally, Mira itself is enshrouded in a constant black smoke filled atmosphere. All life has ceased to exist except in the very depths of the ocean.

Carnotaur, after spending the day in Freeport, then boarded the Red October and set off for the Motif system, followed by his ever present escorts.

Several jumps later Carnotaur arrived in the Motif system and was amazed by the sight; over 400 vessels of all kinds had been assembled in the system and were now awaiting the arrival of the last 100 that were to help them in the invasion of Norhis.

After touring the fleet in the Red October, Carnotaur set down on Motif then went to headquarters. There he met with Admiral Johnson who breifly informed him of the situation. Carnotaur then toured several bases on the planet, and then went back to the Red October. After taking her up and putting her in orbit, Carnotaur settled down in his quarters for a nice long sleep which he had been needing for the past few days.

MODERATION: Uh, grundulator, warpgates don't exist. The Ediens have Interdimensional Jumpgates, but they are ONLY used for jumping galaxies. Besides, Ediens have Sub-Space Engines which allow them to go quite fast through hyperspace. In fact, it only takes them 8 hours to go through a hyperlink that would usually take an entire day to go through. How about this; you went to the Mirava system, you hit a sub-space tear, and you crashed on Mira itself. Sound good?

However, you must remember that there is absolutely nothing of use in the debris, and the Ediens really don't care about it. Also remember that the atmosphere of Mira is quite toxic, even to Ediens. Also, um, there isn't any way to get to other dimensions except to use the interdimensional jumpgates, and Edien ships can't go underwater; they sink like rocks, not to mention that the Ediens themselves aren't too fond of water.

Hawk sat in his office aboard the Nisim, wriitng a message to be sent to Voan’s family should he ever get the chance. He had filled out similar messages for the other twenty people who had served onboard the doomed Veridan. The ship had been a good one. Yet the Kiran couldn’t afford to lose such people.

The ceremony had taken place aboard the Crusader, a Crescent Warship that had served well over three decades. Her captain, an aging Miranu named Dren, had been close to Voan. Dren was also a close friend of Hawk, having been the Zacha the Kisani had rescued years ago. Every captain of the two dozen Kiran vessels still here on S-570 had attended the ceremony. The Veridan and her crew was then added to a very long list of those ships and crews who had died in combat against the Ediens.

Hawk finished the message and placed the data crystal in a small container along with 20 other ones. His eyes were starting to become heavy with sleep, of which he had little of over the past few nights. The Kisani stood up and went to turn off the small desk lamp when his hand passed over the large book he had shown to Carnotaur. The massive volume of Konnel Vaen fell to the deck floor with a loud thunk and flew open. Hawk let out a human curse and bent to retrive it when something caught his eye. The open pages were a journal entry. Wasn’t unusal, considering Konnel often used it as his own journal as well. Picking up the book he read it.

_From the Book of Konnel Vaen
Dated 2563 of the New Kisani record

When Dender of House Krali came back over two centuries ago after a month long trip, he brought with him a tale. He had jumped into the mythic system of Kisa. This tale was thought histerical, having speant to much time in slipstream causing Dender to lose his already diminished sainity. For those three years he tryed to prove his theory but failed.

The idea had been ridiculed as Kisa’s location had been lost overtime. To many it was but a myth of times long gone. Besides, many people thought, what about the barriers that had been cut. Any means by hyperspace, slipstream, jumpgate, or interdimisinal travel had been destroyed and cut off when a timed trap left by the fleeing Dark Enemy went off. Still, Dender kept on ranting.

I was 150 years old then, my name just then becoming known across all of Kisani space as a famed explorer and star charter. Derden had heard of me before many others and when my name was spoken, he came in search of me. At first I wanted little or nothing to do with this insane man, yet over three weeks of constant hounding, I gave in. I listened to his tale and his course. It intrested me to learn this, and despite it being garbled wrote it down. Now after all these decades, I’ve come accross it while looking for some long-discarded note. I have decided to add it to this growing book in hopes that it will one day be read. There may even be a fool big enough to chart the course, may the Fates keep him sane. It is listed below this writing. Also note this course can be treded by slipstream

Konnel Vaen
Explorer

I started my journey thus:

From the Heart of the Kisani I went
To a system that bears twin names
From there I jumped to near the Twin Jewels of Innirian
Coming from there I jumped to Blocked Passage system
There I jumped to a place of unity in the future
Then to a system and a planet who’s inhabbitits would show great promise
from the star that held a triple moon world I broke
into a great place of many millions of rocks, from which I made my last jump
The Silver Star as my guide. There I veiwed the great system of Kisa_

Hawk gasped. It was a passage to Kisa. He had forgotten all about Dender. He laughed shouted outloud in his tongue. “This could be the way. This could be the way! Fates bless the insane Dender.” All thoughts of sleep gone from his head, the Kisani went about to dichpier the code and find out where he had to go exactly.

The two dozen ships of Ragen Fleet jumped from hyperspace into Motif. Aboard the Reverence Sisay opened a com channel to the planet. He had heard about the death of Voan, but he felt some honor for the Zidagar and his crew. They had done great damage to a Edien battlecruiser and whould be remembered. The captain spoke deeply, his voice booming. "To Motif control, this is Captain Sisay of Ragen Fleet. We are here on behalf of the Kiran and President Carnotaur. We are here to answer to him. Request permission to land."

After a few minutes, an answer came. "Roger, Ragen Fleet. Follow flight path Alpha Omega to these cooridantes. Glad to see you, because we need all the help we can get." The channel was cut. Sisay gave the orders to all vessels and the fleet headed towards Motif and entered the atmosphere.

"Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of congress. But I repeat myself." -- Mark Twain

"These new Fireflies are really something," Thunder said to Militia commander Lasin, at another of his regular briefings. "You did an excellent job with them."

"They move with such speed and grace..." Akyna added, "It's fun to just watch them, though I'd like to fly one some day."

"You'll get your chance, once you've got enough flight experience," Thunder assured him.

"I'm quite pleased with the results myself - It's a pity we couldn't fit more than four jumps of fuel on board, they'd make excellent scout craft."

"That brings me to my next question," Thunder said, "Our gunships have quite a lot of extra weapon space as currently configured. I realize we usually use this space to enhance sensors or carry additional defense mines, but would it be possible to incorporate a small hangar bay into the Gunship design? The Firefly is small enough that we should be able to add a docking bay that could hold two or three of them without taking up too much space or adding any significant amount of weight."

"Carried fighters?" Lasin mused, "That would make a valuable addition to the Gunship. I'll order the project to begin immediately. It shouldn't be difficult to design or build, it's retrofitting it that will take the most time. Expect to have the job done within a couple of weeks. (5 posts realtime)."

"Also, Commander," Thunder said, "We've recieved our initial reports back from the researchers in the Rigel system. They've found a what they call a "latent energy lattice" left behind from when we passed through the subspace rift. As soon as we get permission from the Azdgari, we'll see if a similar latent energy lattice exists in the Deneba system. Further study could lead to a way to re-open the gate"

"If the Ediens have taken over the old galaxy, then opening the gate will just let them know we're here," Lasin warned Thunder. I wish there was some way to know if the Federation and Voinians were still okay..."

"Well," Thunder said, "we're still a long way off from reopening the gate at all... maybe something will happen between now and then to let us know."

MOD: Sorry, post revoked. grundulator! Have you read anything about the Edien Interdimension Jumpgate info? You can read about it at: (url="http://"http://www.carnotaurhq.com/golden_horizon/info/other_info/edienjumpgate.html")http://www.carnotaur...enjumpgate.html(/url)

Jumpgates are massive objects and can't just be deployed. They need to be built over a long period of time. They look like a ring with three pods attached to it at evenly spaced points.

Your best bet would be to either abandon ship and float to the surface, where you would probably die quickly with no food (all life on Mira has been destroyed), no water (the water that is there is polluted), and no air (the air is toxic with all the smoke, grit, smog, gases left over from the explosions, and ash. I suggest that you activate a distress becon. It'll take about 4 days for the Ediens to hear it but at least you'll get out alright (though please not that your ship would then have to undergo heavy repairs).
