Shipyards.

I might make one.

Is there a shipyard with NOVA quality ships?

If not i consider making one.

I have a descent amount of pretty good quality ships. That i created during my NOVA developer training.

As a socialist ๐Ÿ˜‰ i consider realeasing this for the good of the community.

I haven't heard of one, so I'd appreciate that, modesty_blaise_us.

Go ahead, we shall not stop you cause we would like one. Especially me. ๐Ÿ˜„

Sweet. I'm looking foward to that. I cant say I've seen any, but I'll search if you want. I'll post anything I come accrost.

<insert trademarked Imperial offer to host the shipyard>

I could hook you up with an evula.org account for the shipyard, or if you don't want to actively maintain it, I could make it a component of my Shipyard.

Would you take public submissions? By the time I'm done with Kemet I will have more than a few sprites that I won't use.

The problem with these 'free ship' sites is that they tend to be filled with second-rate rejects from other/dead plugs and as soon as anything decent comes up, everyone decides to use it. So you end up with a bunch of plugs all using the same graphics.

But they often do inspire designs. I myself get/got some of my ideas from free ship sites. I actually have a ship that I'm designing for the Shinobi race in Legacy that's been inspired by (durh) UFO concepts I've seen.

I used to have a free shipyard up, but I lost a lot of the files in a system crash. Found a lot of them since then, but I'm still working on getting it back up and running. Just need to get the perfect interface ๐Ÿ˜›

Sure. The Shipyard is overdue for an update; I have several other items to add to it, but have been repeatedly sidetracked with other stuff (currently, with redesigning the Lair).

As opposed to the alternative, which is "plugin developer spends all their time trying to find a graphics person, and when they can't find one, the plugin dies." I'd rather have several cool plugins with similar graphics than a bunch of dead plugins that never went anywhere.

If you get too busy to worry about the interface, I can take the files off your hands for ya. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That would be really nice.

Iยดm not sure how much time iยดll have to maintain..
Do you need an asnwer right away on that issue.

Something we'd have to keep in mind here- a Nova ship can easily top five meg by itself- they're larger and have more layers to them. You take a Nova-sized or slightly larger cap ship, add running lights, engine glows, muzzle flashes and alt frames- you'll have a posting nightmare.

By all means, take your time. I'm quite busy redesigning the Lair to handle it right now anyway.

Posting nightmare? All the more reason to simply hand the files over to me and let me deal with it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

All seriousness aside, for large files like that, simply handing it to me really would be the best way to go about it; I have more free space at my disposal than most any free host would be willing to provide (including evula.org).

Well, when ToLazyToMakeAnAccount and I are done with our EVC work, I will have much finished work for you to add to your collection. However, there's still the problem that a lot of people don't like what my ships are so far. Seeing as I only have Bryce 5, I have very little texturing. Bryce 5 doesn't have any decent ship textures (like armor plating-looking stuff), and I don't know if/where I can find any.

I stand corrected.

Make them! Not that hard ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am, but it is still very difficult to work with them. Also, there's a fine line between a texture being so subtle it's unnoticable, and a texture being too noisy and irritating to look at. It is VERY hard to hit that line, and the odd workings of Bryce 5 materials settings doesn't make it much easier. I'm only working with very mild texturing right now to try to take away some of the irritating plastic look to all my ships. The textures are also very simple, and don't have bump-maps, as I cannot figure out how to import my own materials with bump maps, or how to configure them. It's still a very tedious process with few satisfactory results.

I got a great deal on Bryce and I was like, "Wow. A real 3d program! I can make stuff!" I was totally psyched.

Two weeks later I gave up, then DLed Mechanisto- and I'm still there. I find it ironic I perfer that to something tht I bought and paid for. Give it a try ๐Ÿ™‚ You may find it easier.

I'm still messing around with a free copy of Cinema 4D from MacAddict. It's fairly easy, though I have no clue of how to add or make textures or export anything in a way that is useful for plug-ins.
I tried Mechanisto, I don't see how I would be able to make a large, complex ship with it. Maybe I need more time.

I can answer most C4D questions. And there are others at just graphics that can too. If you have a problem just ask.
