You failed to add in my merc fleet at Yemuro, we don't own Yemuro, we are simply based there and that's where all business will be conducted.

We have a new idea for attack fleet sizes, as well as defense fleet sizes.
20%: Cruisers 60%: Frigate/Dessie class 20%: fighter/gunship class
Whatever you want.
Do you guys like the sound of this? UE Admiral and I, us mods, discussed it, and we worked it down to something like this.
Also, open to discussion: Is the limit breakable if you have multiple fleets in one system? ------------------ <Insert Clever Saying Here> (url="http://"http://www.Livejournal.com/users/schlichtinator")I'm awesome(/url)|(url="http://"http://www.penny-arcade.com") Penny Arcade! Just a recommendation to move the Hawks, they only have one jump and aren't much good for an attack fleet.

I should add that the initial defense fleets are free of charge. Just send us(both) your requested fleet count for system defense. We'll approve or reject it...
I would think that defense fleets may be supplemented by any ships that happen to be in the system at the time. This includes assult fleets.
Maybe attack fleets may have more than 250 ships if there are 2 fleets attacking...
We'll talk more on AIM tomarrow i guess.

Defensive fleet is in the Lethe system as well is the attack fleet with it's Flagship the: Death Blade Of Lethe (not that well thought up, i know but its my ev pilot's ship's name.) and they are at Lethe too.
Re done Fleets:
Attack fleet: 5 Corvettes, 10 Rapiers, and 1 Lightning (FlagShip) Fleet name: The Wrath Of Lethe (TWOL)
Defense Fleet: 5 Corvettes and 10 Rapiers Fleet Name: The Guardians Of Lethe (TGOL)

Question: Let's say I have a fleet made up of Confed Cruisers and Hawks. Cruisers have 4 jumps, hawks have 1 jump.
Is our fleet movement limited to the amount of fule the hawk or the cruiser would have?
You would be limited to the hawk's fuel. You could let the hawks fall behind if you wanted to keep going, but you cant bring the hawks along via a tether cord.
I'm really confused right now on the defense fleet. So what we just chose was our Attack fleet right. But your saying that the fleet to defend our planet is free and we can choose as many ships (up to two hundred) of almost any kind that we want. So if I want say ten corvettes and 60 Rapiers defending my planet that would come as no charge to me. I would like to iterate that I'm really confused right now.

Also, is it possible to equip ships with less fuel capacity (such as hawks) with fuel tanks? (I haven't checked whether hawks can HOLD fuel tanks, however...)

Just taking values from the Data Files through ResEdit, a Hawk has ten tons of equipment space, and could be equipped with two extra fuel tanks. This could give a Hawk a total range of three jumps. Listed price: 1500 per tank.
That is, If modified ships are allowed. That, however, opens a door to the confusion brought on by multitudes of varients of each ship type clashing against each other.
However, if ship modifications are disallowed, it would effectively put Hawks out of the game; the Hawk's range would limit it to a defensive role, for which purpose its light armaments would inhibit; the Hawk Bay, which could concievably allow them the fighter capacity that they were designed for, is a modification that no ship posesses naturally.
------------------ ... Of course, I could be wrong...
I want to avoid much confusion... However i see that i have already failed at confusion managment. I will try to cover each of the problems...
Swithich: You may have any assortment of ships you like in your defense fleet. You may have up to 200 ships. However, for the start of the story, you may only choose 50 ships. These initial 50 may be added to through the game by purchasing new ships and saying that they were added to the defense fleet.
Trugati: Ship modifications are not allowed for the reason Eugene Chin stated(endless varients of ships that will be impossible to keep track of). However, Flagships may have minor upgrades at no cost(at least initially).
So, mercs are basically screwed, because our meager fleets will be bashed against a wall anytime someone sends us to capture a planet. Unless, Mercs get more money for their intial fleet.

Meh... Problem after problem arises without any sign of slowing... Well, Jimbob and i will think of something. Can you see any other problems that might arise?

So we get fifty ships for free, or is the fleet we paid for our full defensive fleet?
(This message has been edited by Swithich (edited 08-07-2004).)
Swithich, what it sounds like he's saying is that, at the beginning of the game, a defense fleet for a particular system cannot exceed fifty ships; this forces you to spread your ships around your space. During the course of the game, more ships can be assigned to a particular system, up to two hundred ships.
You pay for all of them.
I wish i could talk to everyone over AIM or something... I hate to clutter the thread...
Anyway... I will explain this to the best of my ability.
At the start of the game, you get 2 fleets.
First, the Attack Fleet. You get 5x your income(or just 50M for mercenaries, but this may yet change. Jimbob and i are still ironing things out). You spend that 5x on a fleet of any assortment you could want. This is a mobile fleet and you may move it wherever you want it. While a player has a budget for this fleet, it really doesnt cost you anything, because you dont have to get the money yourself. As such, you may not keep whatever is left over from that ammount of money to start the game with(so spend every possible penny).
Second, the Defense Fleet. Owners of planets(not mercs) may choose up to 50 ships for the defense of their planet. You have no budget for this fleet, however, it must be reasonable(50 Kestrels or 50 Confederate Cruisers is not reasonable). This fleet must be approved by both moderaters. Now, through the game you may add to this fleet by purchasing ships and adding them to the system's defense. These ships cost money that you aquire in the game. The standing defense fleet of a single system may not be more than 200 ships, although the defense of a system may be added to by moving your attack fleet into the system.
I need to sleep now. I ask that everyone else do as i do, and sleep on the thought of "what problems are there with this game?". One mind(or even two) can not think of everything.

I have an idea on the merc problem. What if you doubled the merc's starting fleet income, and gave them access to all ships, whether rebel or confederate, or normal. This is fair, since merc aren't particularly aligned to any one government. It would also allow us to do a broader scope of missions for our employess, such as spying and what not.
Think about it...

No. Mercs are civilians. You'd have to get authority from the leader of the Rebellion or Confederation to purchase their ships.
For the defense fleets, do the carrier-borne fighters count against the 50 ships limit (ie, does a Cruiser count as 5 ships because of the fighters?).
