We will probobly use this thread for OOC. No point in making another thread to clutter the board.
Bob pretty much covered the research bit. The player assigns a time it will take for something to be researched. For example... For the rebels to research the cloaking devise, it might take 6 days. A cloak is a very advanced and usefull thing. It has many uses that would give the rebellion a large advantage, hence the lengthy time. Once researched, you may wish to have it fitted to all your ships. This would depend on the size of your fleet primarily and you would place an appropriate time for complete fitting to all vessels.

He's not trying to rip you off. No one has any planets to rule over. The leaders are the presidents, kings, dictators, and other assorted leaders of that nation. The subordinates are admirals/generals.

Isn't the Confederation ruled by a Senate? In the game during the Rebel Assassination Missions, your target is a Confederate Senator. There is also a mention of a Confederate Aristocracy in the description of the Luxury Liner, accessed through ResEdit.
(Unrelated side question; besides Akio in the Guiron System just off of Gamera, where do the Rebels buy Proton Turrets?)

It does have a Senate, but that's all we know.
