So how many use strict play?

I was just curious about this, early on I started using it exclusively, just made things a bit more risky. I always buy an escape pod too, except for the times that I forgot. Which cost me quite a bit on at least one occasion while playing EVGE. After having just gotten blown out of a Panther I'd souped up real nice, I was in my shuttlecraft, hypering into the Sol system, and right into the middle of a massive battle between the Polaris and Confeds, got caught in the blast radius of one of those nuclear missiles and well, that was the end of that pilot. But, that's part of the fun for me, the risk. How about the rest of you?

------------------

Strict play, unless I'm testing a plug. I find it more challenging and interesting. Even though I have lost several pilots...

"Paranoia is Life"

Strict play is Chellenging, but I started a pilot with it and survived a week EV time.

Destroyer E is the name of my ship and the name has a good meaning.

Not me. Having hours upon hours of hard work go out the window just because I didn't dodge that last missile isn't my idea of "fun." 🙂

Like paranoid, I use strict play unless I'm testing NR or one of my various other projects. It makes the game more appealing to me. It may be frustrating to start all over again with a shuttle after your precious argosy is blown to pieces but it'll definately teach you something you can use in the future. Since I began checking that box for every pilot I create, my combat skills, common sense, and general knowledge of the game have all improved dramatically.

Filling that last ton of random free space with an escape pod actually means something now.

I will often not use strict play, but have the escape pod without the autoeject. If my ship gets blown up because of my own stupidity, then I hit eject. If I get blown up because of some random event, or the cat walks on the keyboard. I don't hit eject then I have lost nothing.

I found that playing strict play made me a much more timid player. I always kept a large cash reserve, not investing much in the ship and avoided high risk situations--the very ones that make the game more exicting.

Edit:
Oh, in EVN I find strict more fun since you can be disabled, robbed, and rescued for a price. You can also control your fighters while disabled.

A lovely touch.

Just be careful, in nova strict play can become impossible. Polycon has blackholes that destroy your ship, and they destroy it instantly, completly, no chance to use escape pod. It means it is IMPOSSIBLE for even the most prudent person.

Cheat any way you want in almost any mac game. Even Nova.

I never play on strict play. It's no fun. I mean, I'm with EVula. I had a great game going once on strict in a corvette. I just bought it so I didn't have an escape pod, and I got hit by 3 Kestrel pirates. :frown:

It's a game! Not a military training program! 🙂

That said, I usually play strict.

I completely concur. The fun for me is playing through the whole game as it was intended to be played, not playing through and not dieing at all.

GRAAAH!. I just started a strict play game, invested about 60,000 in my brand new shuttlecraft with a couple of laser cannons, decoy launcher, escape pod and auto eject, and managed to monty python a pirate corvette down to 1% sheilds before another pirate corvette jumped in and blew my ship up! (I'd spent all my decoy flares on the first corvette)

ugh

Heh, know what was really funny? 😛 When I first started I had no clue how Strict Play was different was different because I didn't know you have to reload your pilot, so at first that's how I played.

Thats really ugh. But how could you Monty Python a Corvette? Its the second toughest civilian ship in the game, and so speedy some prefer it and makes it even more dangerous. I had no idea Monty Python was so effective that you can do it even in a Shuttle. I admire your skill.
