When speaking to forge, please don't capitalize the "f." And don't ask why you shouldn't capitalize the "f."
If you have a question, please use the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/search.cgi?action=intro &default;=6")search feature(/url) before posting.
Please don't post asking about karma or why some members have titles other than "member" below their names. Karma is explained in the webboard guidelines and (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum26/HTML/006676.html#")here(/url). Some members have unique titles under their names where most people have the word "member" because Andrew Welch, president of Ambrosia Software and administrator of these boards, gave them those titles because he felt like it and he can.
If you have a new EV fan site, please don't post more than once about it. If you have a new plug-in, submit it to the EV Addons site, but don't post here to tell us about it. You know who I'm talking to.

I posted this because there have been a lot of new members lately. This is great. We love to see the community grow. However, it also leads to spam and flaming. Hopefully we can stop most of it. I would also like to remind the board regulars that newbies are people too. Try to be kind to them.

Now this is old but am I to assume that it is no longer acceptable to do so? Is there an acceptable place to announce a new plug (as opposed to uploading it and hoping someone notices it by chance)?

People do notice it by chance. But that's generally not a good way to announce a plug-in, as you've said.
The modern version of "post it on the Escape Velocity website" would be to post it on this board. Or at least, that's the impression I've gotten. Maybe it's because I'm on good terms with the moderators so they don't yell at me for it, but they should if it's wrong. But really, as long as you don't go overboard, just post a message and be done with it. If people don't take an interest, it's just something you have to swallow. I've had that experience before -- recently, actually.
I think this board is just the only way to do it. Nowhere else can you get people to notice. As long as you don't abuse the board, there's no reason not to use it.

Feel free to announce your plug-in if it's:
1: Not a cheat. 2: Not crap. 3: Actually has some content to it. 4: Might actually be of interest to people who play the game.
This hasn't been the case as of late.
A logical site for new plug-in announcements is the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/newswire.html")Newswire(/url). I don't know how much traffic it gets these days, but it could certainly serve a role.

Alright i have played EV for some time. But i have a PC now and my mac doesnt work. So my friend got a powermac and he doesnt have internet on it. So i get plugins from my pc to his mac. But how do i make the plug ins work for EV?

Download the .HQX and/or .BIN files and transfer them to the mac. Decode and unstuff them using Stuffit Expander or Aladdin Expander (Same Thing) from (url="http://"http://www.aladdinsys.com")www.aladdinsys.com(/url). Then place the unstuffed plugin files in to the "plugins" folder in the Escape Velocity folder. Increase EV's memory allocation depending on the plugin (click on the Escape Velocity application, then file->Get Info->Memory and change the prefered size number to something bigger that it already is. I keep mine at 26000.)

Why shouldn't people post about their plugs? I see absolutely no problem with people plugging their plug, if you will. It's the only decent way to get the word out to the community about your plug, other than to submit it to the (url="http://"http://ucplugs.evula.net")EV/PoG Upcoming Plug-Ins Directory(/url).

They can use the Newswire for that purpose. EVula can weed out the crap directly that way instead of having to lock and/or delete useless topics here.

Eh... I don't think that a lot of people use the newswire. Announcement topics aren't useless as a matter of course, only when they don't have any meaning.
