BfS III OOC Discussion III

Only one comment on the moderation of the Darven battle. I feel that I would keep most of the fighters as their neutron beams would keep most of the enemy fighters and such away from them, thus making the pincer movement rather ineffective against them.
Skyblade: Numbers might not be all that matters but neither are tactics. One of the reasons the Germans won so consistently is morale and also their tanks. The Allied tanks were POS compared to the German tanks, which are still deadly on the battlefield even today. I won't discount the fact that the Germans had an excellent commander in Rommel. Oh yeah, a quote from the Pentagon: "Amateurs discuss strategy. Professionals discuss logistics." Logistics is why the Germans lost, not tactics.

Look, this is probably partly my fault, since a lot of this would have come up earlier in the attack if I'd been around yesterday. The fact is, it wasn't a completely fair and legal assault. The whole purpose of not allowing single post battles attacking a capital is to allow the other players to respond, which you didn't let them. You aren't going to leave an average commander in charge of your capital - you'll have one of your best commanders. For the purposes of this, that means you have to have a player in control. I didn't put everytihng in the rules, because I assumed that the point of not having one post battles would be obvious. Just redo both battles, Dreden and Sentarus Prime.

I also suggest that the massive capture of systems following the attack on Dreden be voided. That is unfair and completely insane. Kyle has a good point when he complains about the massive capture of systems by the HC and Dreden. As I'm mod since I'm now leader of the Pirates, I highly suggest that these captures be voided.

You're not a mod, buddy. Asriel still is, whether he's here or not. Under no circumstances would I allow you to be a mod.

As for Darven - Skyblade Frigates firing HALOs would feel pretty safe from beams. They're the other side of the pincer.

EVula's Edit: Trying to see if I can get this thread to work again.

I love the arcade. There's this one game near the middle where you put in a dollar and win four quarters, and I win every time! They even have games in the bathrom, look! I won a balloon!

The rules state that the leader of the government is a mod. I'm now the leader of the pirates since Asriel isn't showing up. I stated that on the very first page of this topic and there were no objections. And in regards to the Frigates, all I have to do is go the other way with all guns blazing and I've got an open area.

The topic is cut off immediately after my big post, it has the top part of mac's post. What's going on?

I'm going to have to agree with kenderboy on this one. He did plan out all of this ahead of time, according to the rules agreed upon at that time. Changing or adding new rules really screwed him over on this one. Timing is of the essence in this case, and redoing the whole thing really screws up Kyle's whole plan. Rules should not be altered midgame, so as to avoid misinterpretations like this. Mac, one thing about being a "lawyer" is that they spell out EVERYTHING in fine print. In rules, you really can't assume anything.
But this isn't all bad, at least you can fill in all of the holes in the rules for next game!

Well I guess I was just nieve, I should have known that no matter what our side does either way, that you mods would step in and foil it through sheer bias. My attack on Dreden conformed perfectly with the rules posted on the BFS site, but i guess i should have made it conform to the rules you guys would make up afterwards.

If your capital was under attack and had no fleets to defend it, wouldn't you want to know if you could select and command your own defense fleet? You certainly would. No matter how hard we try to clear things up, you always find something else to fuss about. 😉

I wouldnt have left my capital open to attack. If you had really seen the possibility of our attack you would have defended against it.

We (well, at least I) saw it coming. Don't you think a commander who is assembling all his forces to the north knows he's taking a risk? I'm not quite that stupid, you know. 😛 Every gamble has its downsides, and it took a lot of guts to go ahead and drag my entire navy into Rhansard.

I know my opinion doesn't really matter, and the Aliens are our enemies, but they're past few attacks and moves have been absolutely brilliant and also completely followed the rules. As much as I'd like to win the game, I think they deserve the win against the Dreden. Yes, we should be able to pick our own defense fleets, but it didn't say so in the rules, so the Alien players thought that they were doing the same thing. Maybe we could say that Dreden has fallen, all Dreden planets come under the power of the Alien Empire, but the fleets live on until they are destroyed, because it makes sense that the fleets of a government would keep on fighting for freedom until they were destroyed. Hope that all made sense.

If you didn't like what I suggested, then come up with something else that will seem acceptable to both parties. It just seems right to me that the Aliens get Dreden.

Azdara thanks for the support, I always thought that overall you were a pretty fair guy, despite the Battle of Stornik.

;)That's what happens when I feel cheated and lose my temper.... 😉 I'm glad it got evened out in the end though, the Battle Stornik was much better(more realistic) after some -ahem- modifications. 😉

/Me wonders if anyone has listened to my side of the story. 😉

As I've said before, I found absolutely nothing wrong with the alien attacks. According to the rules, they got everything right. However, when Vice Admiral Ipvicus made the first post attack against Dreden, I asked him to hold off until I could get Mac to answer a question. Vice Admiral Ipvicus completely disregarded my post, and continued on with the attack. Since he did this, every one of his attack posts had to be voided. Had he stopped when I told him to, none of that mess would have happened. As far as the rules are concerned, the alien players did the right thing. I, for one, just wanted to make sure that the defending player could select a defense fleet and commander. This was not a "new rule," it was just something that Mac never explained... That question would have come up sooner or later anyway. Does any of this make a bit of sense? Obviously not.

We can go ahead and say the aliens got Dreden, but at the same time, they got it without the Dreden even selecting a fleet and commanding it. Therefore, the aliens would get the chance to select their own fleet for the defense of Sentarus Prime, since the rule was past following the attack on Dreden. Now does anyone call this fair? If you alien players call this the definition of fair, well... Check your nearest dictionary. 😉

Again, I would not mind if we said Dreden was captured. I'm just saying that it wouldn't be fair for the aliens to capture it without a defending player controlling the defense fleet, and then have the aliens get to pick their own fleet for when the alliance attacks their own capital.

Philly: Your sound file must not be in the right format. For example, I've tried porting Ares sounds over to EV, but they wouldn't work since Ares has better sound quality.

Ummm Skyblade you never asked me to stop my attack, all you said was that it was a stupid idea and that I was abandoning my comrades to painful death at the hands of the Dreden Navy. I also understand, according to you, that you foresaw the possibility of an attack (and a possible victory) on your capital, but chose to ignore it ("take a risk" as you put it) instead. Your gamble failed, we attacked and won, but instead of accepting this you chose to whine. Sorry Skyblade but all you had to do to prevent this was have a fleet commander (you had three to choose from not including yourself) in Dreden, a move that wouldn't have cost you very much, but could have saved you. You didnt, its your fault, and you should recognise that instead of screwing us out of our well earned victory. But im over it now. You want your hollow victory? fine keep it none of us care, just remember that you were beaten, and it was done fairly.
