Battle for Sol (The ultimate bar)

I don't think the way of life would end just because the Rebellion took over, we aren't mmonsters you know. But let's not turn this into anoher Confeds vs. Rebels session, the which government is beter(sic) topic is still lurking down there somewhere if you want to discuss that, I'm sure.

I never said the Rebels were monsters, but you've got to admit that when an enemy army captures your planet, they're going to have to dismantle your political structure and probably jail your governmental officials to hold on to it, and they're not going to trust any of your law enforcement officers either. All these changes are going to mess up people's lives in a major way.

Yes, that's probably true. However...

==================

"Commander Vaten!" He was drinking in the Apollo bar, hoping he'd get a nice rest before going out again. He was clearly wrong, as his radio was crackling.

"Yes, yes. Mr. Navarone?" Vaten was also slightly drunk.

"We have received a distress call from the officials of New Britain. Apparently, resistance groups there are causing major power outages. We want your fleet to go and investigate. Be careful, however. There have been rumors that Confederate ships are also coming."

"Yes, of course. New Britain? Good idea. I think I'll go there."

"COMMANDER! Stop drinking now! You are going to New Britain to put down a resistance movement. Can you remember that?"

"Yes, yes. When should we leave?"

"Admiral Rollins?" called the lieutenant. "TNY has five more Ospreys ready. As well, research on Earth was able to supply them with a new version of that tractor beam weapon that caused the Astrodyne fiasco, and it's been installed on the new ships."

"Splendid," replied the admiral. "Order all fourteen Ospreys to prepare for departure. I'm taking them to reinforce our fleets in the Rigel systems. I'll command them from the C.N.S. Macdonald."

==================

Just to clarify: two Confederate fleets have already arrived in Rigel. They consist of patrol ships, gunboats, frigates, and cruisers armed with particle beam cannons. Now, all nine Ospreys are joining the battle. Five of them are armed with tractor beams, all of them have particle beam turrets and all the other capabilities mentioned in previous posts.

Sattomax, could you post here exactly what's in your 17th X-Group? If you'll recall, my fleet is also at Apollo, and I'd like to do the rebel side of the coming battle at Rigel, so I need to know what's in your fleet. You don't want to take it in on your own, because you want my fleet with the, uh, "new red beams." 🙂

And Skyblade and/or Overrider, your fleets might be helpful too...

Hello, I have returned from my vacation. Since no one posted here this last week, I guess I can go back to my original plan of doing the rebel side of New Britain, assuming any of you still have any interest in this. If Sattomax hasn't told me what's in his fleet in a couple days, I suppose I'll just have to guess and go anyway.

Hope you guys still have some interest here, I think this is a great topic, and would like to see it continue a while longer.

Captain O'Donnell of the cruiser C.N.S. Montcalm observed as the two huge troop transports disappeared into the atmosphere of New Britain. With the planet's defensive cannons and security systems still offline thanks to the efforts of the local resistance, the temporary rebel government should be defeated as easily as the rebel starships had been.

"Tell our ships to take defensive positions around the system, and be ready for the Admiral's battlegroup to arrive," he instructed a lieutenant.

"But sir, why do we have to worry about spaceborne attacks? The rebels wouldn't be able to get past Matar or Centauri without suffering heavy losses to the fleets stationed there - not to mention the new orbital defence batteries - and Levo won't let them past."

"I don't know how they'll get here," replied the captain, "but I'm sure they'll come. Now get our ships in position before Admiral Rollins gets here. The Ospreys are already in hyperspace."

Sorry guys. I'm in camp, and will be until July 13.

I might post soon, though.

Rebel, the captain of a rebel cruiser walks into the bar with several other rebel officers. "The R.S.S. Independence and her fleet are all battle ready and waiting in orbit. Its nothing compared to Sattomax's strike group but I think I could give you assistance in the strike against New Britain. My fleet would take several days to get there, but we can give some good support fire. Permission to join with your fleet macavenger?"

------------------

"This is the Levo Public Television News. Our top story today: Confederate troops have landed on New Britain, and thanks to the efforts of the planet's resistance groups, are quite quickly regaining control of the planet. The planet's law enforcement officers have been freed, and have joined the battle against the remaining Rebel troops, whose morale is very low following a lack of supply runs from the Rebellion. New Britain's parliament has resumed its session that was interrupted by the Rebel invasion, and unless there's any sudden developments, it's probably safe to count the planet once again as Confederate territory. We'll have a report from our war correspondent Cynthia Mark later in the program, but first, this just in from today's hearing into the Loadstar incident. In case you've forgotten, the Loadstar was caught just over a week ago smuggling weapons through the Levo system, and the case is the first test of the power of the new Alliance of Independent Worlds. The captain of the Loadstar today testified that he was unaware that the packages in his hold contained military-grade missiles and torpedoes, but stated that he took the parcels on board after a cloaked figure on the Rebel world of Spica offered him two million credits to take to cargo to the planet Capella (which, formerly a Confederate tourist planet, is now under Rebel control) with 'no questions asked.' And now..."

Rebel, seeing that timing is imperitive, moves his fleet to the Rigel system and engages the confederate ships. The R.S.S. Independence was destroyed in the action but Rebel managed to eject to the rebel destroyer, R.S.S. Freedom, which is now serving as the fleets new flag ship. Lacking the support of marines for a ground assault, rebel and his fleet remain in orbit blockading supplies from getting to the planet. Rebel sends a request to Satori for marines.

------------------

By the time a fleet of eight Rebel assault transports loaded with marines arrives at Rigel, the Confederation fleets have been alerted by fighter patrols, and has mobilized a few warfleets surrounding the Rigel system...

Just a moment! If you're going to arrive at Rigel, you have to say ~how~ you got there, since that's one of the issues at stake here. And ~Rebel~, how are you managing to stay in orbit and blockade the planet with the entire Confederate attack fleet still in the system and expecting reinforcements?

My fleet destroyed some confederate warships when we entered the system. As for the expected Confed reinforcements... we will have to pull back considering my fleet lost its only cruiser. Unless rebel reinforcements arrive here soon I will have to jump to Levo for repairs.

Are you saying that you came through the Levo system to get to Rigel? In that case, you've created a ~major~ diplomatic incident as, earlier in this thread, the Alliance of Independent Worlds declared its territory off-limits to all military vessels.

Rebel, you really don't have a big enough fleet to do anything to Rigel right now.

David Arthur, I don't believe that ~Rebel~ is actually a Rebellion officer, so there would not actually be a diplomatic incident directed at the Rebellion. And remember, there are no one-post battles.

I am a rebellion officer and I came into the system up from Centuri system. I'm just sayin, I have to pull back, and Levo is probably the closest port.

Yes, but since Levo is an independent world, they will immediately destroy any ships of the Confederation and Rebellion governments who pass through their space. You would be better off taking a longer route then risk getting the Levo defense fleet sent your way...

That's actually a bit of an exaggeration: the Alliance wouldn't try to destroy anyone, but it is true that ~Rebel~ would receive a very unwarm welcome, being either forced to leave the system or taken into custody, depending on the choice of whoever was on duty at the Alliance Control Center when he came through.

But technically, if ~Rebel~ does pass through the Levo system, he puts the Rebellion in trouble...An unwarm welcome as you said. ~Rebel~, since you are a Rebel officer, I suggest you stay away from Levo. We are already fighting a long and hard war against the Confederation, and triggering other wars against independent worlds won't help the Rebellion's war efforts.

And if Levo does become a problem, the Rebellion could make plans to take it over. I would side against this, however, since taking Levo would make surrounding independent systems hostile towards the Rebellion.
