"In today's news, the militia of the new Alliance of Independent worlds in the galactic north has announceed the purchase of many new spacecraft to counter the ever-increasing pirate attacks in their territory. Maskirovka and CDX have announced that they are giving the Alliance special price arrangements on respectively the IPV-1 corvette and the Rapier fighter, and that future technology developed by the corporations may find itself in the hands of the Alliance before it reaches the general population. 'For some reason,' said Levo's First Minister Jaffa, 'the pirates have become much bolder of late. Perhaps they have observed the increase in violence between the two major governments, and feel that they are safe as long as their enemies are divided. In any case...'"

The Alliance of Independent Worlds isn't going to be making military alliances with either major government, although if you want to try for other negotiations, feel free to go ahead. For some info about Alliance technology (and a few hints about what they'll be up to over the next few days), see the news story above. As for their internal politics, each planet has a system of government mostly like the one I've described for Levo, and you'll hear more about the Alliance itself in a day or two. For the meantime, I'd just like to make it clear that the planets are still independent, but are opening up interstellar trade a bit and maintaining a joint starfleet.
Macavenger, you're probably wise not to send your fleet through Alliance space, because that would create a ~major~ diplomatic incident, and any sign of Rebel agression against the Alliance would probably be very bad publicity for the Rebellion not only among the independent planets, but its own citizens as well. (I'm assuming you've decided that you're a Rebel rather than a pirate.)

True...I'd have to say that he (macavenger) primarilly sides with the Rebellion. After all, he has destroyed Confederation and Pirate fleet alike...

Yes, I more or less decided I'm a rebel. And if you noticed, I already said I'm going through Spica, not Levo. If Kathoon is in the alliance too, I'm soory, but it can't be helped, I've got to get to Armstrong in the Apollo system somehow.(By now I'm there working on my secret project actually.) If both the Kathoon and Levo systems block rebel transit, I think they'll be making a serious enemy of the Rebellion, since it needs a way to get ships and supplies to and from Armstrong.
And isn't it about time one of you rebel script writers did something? Maybe a feint at Sol to see what those Ospreys can do?

An unmarked Argosy hypered into the Vulcan system. A close examination would have revealed that this Argosy was in fact not at all standard, but had some profile changing alterations, but no such observations were made. A pirate Kestrel arrived and prepared to attack a pair of Confed fighters in the system. The Argosy drove in at the Kestrel and unleashed a string of torpedoes. The pirate promptly forgot about the small Confederate fighters and launched its Lightnings to meet this menace. Just as they cleared the bay, The Argosy came up and fired a red beam through the Kestrel's engine compartment. The core quickly went critical and overloaded, destroying the ship. As the Lightnings attacked, one was shot down by concentrated Proton fire while the other fell prey to the devastating red beam. The Argosy then hypered at as quickly as it had arrived.
The Confederate pilots who witnessed the savage assault would have some interesting reports to make when they returned to their base.
Just for the sake of information, would you mind "contacting" Mr. Navarone about this new red beam?

The 17th X-Group prepared to take flight from Apollo. They had heard about a large concentration of pirates around New Antigua, and decided to give their fleet its first true test.

It's not new, exactly (how'd you know it was me, anyway? :p), and I'll probably contact Mr. Navarone as soon as it gets out of the beta testing.

What is it? Some sort of fusion beam?

Probably. But even if it's something lower then a laser cannon, it would still kill any Confederation ship in a small matter of time...

Though it would probably shred most Confed Ships fairly quickly...
As for Navarone hearing of it, I'm sure the team of rebel engineers working with me will tell him all about it when I bring them back to Palshife in a little while.

Admiral Rollins, the former commander of the late Stardock Alpha, stood in his office, reading a message displayed on his computer screen.
_Admiral -
We delivered the equipment successfully, and it's being deployed as we speak. Macauly told us that the planet isn't really defended all that adequately now that it's hard to get supplies through, and the morale of the troops is very low. All in all, it looks like this is a good time for you to act.
Peters_
The admiral tapped a button on his screen, opening a channel to the spaceport.
"Admiral?"
"Prepare the ships. We're going in."
/me thinks David is about to try to recapture one of the planets we've taken... Remember your own rule David, no one post battles.
As the 17th X-Group hypered into the Spica system, there were a large amount of pirates waiting for them. Admiral Ma'ose estimated about 15 Kestrels, 20 Corvettes, and 20 Lightnings.
A quick salvo of precision bombs exploded against the sides of the warships, destroying a third of the pirate fleet in seconds. The launched Firefoxes quickly wiped out the Lightnings with their turbolasers and compressor beams.
The pirates responded with torpedoes and proton turrets, but they were no match for the experimental Rebel fleet. It was over quickly, but Vaten had ordered that a Kestrel be left disabled, to inspect.
"Prepare a boarding party at the ventral airlock."
"Yes, sir," Ma'ose responded.
As the party went in, there was not much resistance, and all were taken out by turbolaser rifles. The main computer bank was quickly reached, and information was downloaded to take back to Apollo.
Something just occurred to me. We've taken New Britain, but did anyone ever think to take Hodgson's World? I don't believe we ever did. With that being a Confederation system, and Levo blocking passage, Rigel would be cut off, which also would seem to make it David's target, most likely. If someone has a spare fleet to attack Matar, th sooner the better, easy access to Rigel is going to be critical if we a=want to keep it, I think. I also suggest reinforcing Cappela, as that's another possible target, though it doesn't fit David's post nearly as well as Rigel.
Also, since one-post-battles are now illegal, distress calls are very possible, if someone else has a fleet nearby, it could always drop in with reinforcements.
Lt. Macauly examined his watch. It was time. He pushed the button on his hycom unit, causing lights to activate on those of each resistance cell leader. They evidently received the message, for within minutes every power station on New Britain was exploding. It was at that point that two Confederate fleets dropped out of hyperspace - one from Centauri, one from Matar.
------------------
The ore freighter Loadstar prepared to exit the Levo system. Suddenly, the captain received an incoming message.
Loadstar, this is Alliance Patrol Wing 322. Your attempt to smuggle illegal weapons through neutral territory has been detected. Stand down and prepare to be boarded.
Seeing three Corvettes bearing down on him, the captain had no choice but to comply.

So you're taking down the entire power grid planet wide? Aren't you normally concerned with aiding civilians, not knocking out there power and way of life for indeterminant time? this could be some very bad PR of the Confederation for once, I would think.
Sattomax, are you going to send your X-Fleet or whaatever in? and don't we still have a fleet in Turin? New Britain needs help here...
Maybe i need to formally join the Rebellion when I get back to Palshife, since David and I seem to be the mos frequent posters to this, I need to be able to take official action from time to time, I think.

Actually, it's not the Confederation that's knocking it out, but a number of Rigellian resistance groups. As for an "indeterminate time," giving the technology we're talking about, the outage isn't going to last for much more than twelve hours or so, and the "way of life" has been gone ever since the Rebellion took over in the first place. What's important to most people is restoring the government they elected so that life can start moving back towards normality.
