I've been assuming that Battle for Sol is taking place after both the Confederation's 'Rebel Pursuit' missions and the Rebel Special Ops missions have taken place, but before the Alien Cruiser was detected, and that the increased hostilities between the major governments have caused technology to advance more rapidly than it does during the normal course of the game.
Originally posted by Macavenger: However, this could work pretty good if I end up writing missions for both sides, which might even replace the alien missions.
If you do write missions for Battle for Sol, I'd like to look over your general plot to make sure I agree with the actions you have the Confederation taking.
I'll have the next release candidate of my resources up soon. Since we're going to combine the plugins, I've rewritten my readme file to just be a guide to the text that I want you to put into the final readme file as well as whatever else you were going to put in.

Heh, and won't the Aliens be surprised when they return and find out that the Rebels have copied their Fusion Beams, and put it on a turret? Get knocked right back out of the galaxy. You don't have sympathies for the Aliens too, do you?

Actually, since you know far better than I do how the Confederation is supposed to work during this, you could just write Confed missions, and then I could look at them to make sure I don't think they contradict the Rebel plot much, not that I think they will. We could get started on those now, but probably can't finish them until we finish the plot here on the board.
One other problem I've noticed is that the AI won't fire different types of turrets at the same time, and invariably chooses the Proton Turrets over Particle Beam Turrets. Any ideas and if or how we can fix that?

Well, it depends what you mean by that. I wouldn't attack them without provocation, but if they behaved the way they did during the Great War, the Confederation would respond the way it did during the Great War.

I'll do a little experimentation with that and see if I can get it to work better before I send you the next release candidate.
Okay, I've posted a new version (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/rossarthur/battleforsol.hqx")here(/url). I've tweaked the armament of the Ospreys a little, and found that the AI now uses them much more intelligently than in previous versions. As I mentioned before, the readme is now prepared to be integrated with your readme.
Maybe I should post a few of my graphics. This is the "C" class Rebel Cruiser.

Hehe...Good point. The turbolaser is a recent development by the Rebel Arms Corporation (commonly known by its initials as the RAC). The turbolaser is basically a modified laser cannon, with nearly twice the range (in other words, it's a very long range weapon), as much punch as a proton cannon, faster rate of fire (then the original laser cannon), at the sacrifice of less accuracy. All-in-all, it's a deadly weapon that gives Rebel fighters a leading edge in battle tactics and dogfights. The beams are redish (more orange, really) since they are turbocharged before fired.
Presenting...The Rebel Turbolaser! Built by the Rebel Arms Corporation, and fitted to Rebel fighters as standard primary armament.
Any chance you have or could do in-game sprites for the Star Cobra and your other ships? And maybe some of mine, if I send you some concept sketches? The best graphics program I've got is Graphic Converter, which is pretty nice, but not really up to this kind of stuff.

I could, but it would take some time...I can't get MakeSpin to work right unfortunately, so I can't make actual spins and sprites. :frown:
David- Here are some graphics for an upgraded Confederation Frigate. Use them if you like.

Could one of the other Corsairs do it for us, perhaps? Or if not, let me know if you get MakeSpin to work right and can do them.

Nova6 is good with spinning, so I might just send the graphics his way to spin them for me...
OK, I'll post a single view pict of my ships sometime this weekend, and we can spin those too if that's not a problem for you.

That's fine. Weepul and Admiral Zombat have been giving me some tips on how to spin ships with Infini-D, so I'll probably learn how to do that soon...
David- Here's an upgraded Frigate image for ya.

I doubt David's going to want any new graphics, though those certainly are very cool. I think most of his stuff is minor technological upgrades, with no changes to the hull, so they aren't distinguishable from previous versions. Way awesome graphics though.

You're probably right. I just thought I'd be paying David a favor by designing him some nice-looking Confederation ships.
Thanks for the comments.
Another Confederation Graphic if David cares to use it.

Finally. The Confeds have some cool ships.

Heh, the Rebel's new ships are far cooler... And who invited you to this topic? Membership on the Battle for Sol dev team required.
