I hate the Confeds just as much as any loyal Rebel does, but there's nothing wrong with the "bad guys" having some cool ships, is there? 🙂

Nahhh...Rawzer is a loyal Rebel...He may stay. 😉

Hey, Captain Skyblade, I just remembered, I'll need a pict for the Turbolaser Turret to go with the cannon. I think I can figure out the rest from your other post.

Turbolaser Turret? No problem...Here ya go.

Here's another Confederation vessel, the Cruiser (although it can be given a different title for "The Battle of Sol." I'm designing these ships for my own plugin, but their names can be altered if anyone prefers).

If I may ask, what program are you using to create those images, and are they 3d models?
Oh, and what sound should I use for the Turbolaser? Laser, Proton, Blaze, other...?

That would be Infini-D. My graphics history puts me as a 2D artist, but I'm beginning to switch to 3D modelling (which is what these Confederation graphics are).

As for a sound to use for the Turbolaser, let's go with the "blaze cannon" sound. We don't want the turbolaser to sound like the original laser, as it is more powerful. The blaze sound is a go (if you like it).

OK, general status update.

Right now, I consider the plug to be at version 1.0.0d2. I'm hoping to get to alpha1 in a few days, but I'm going to have to finish stuff for my ships first, and get some spins from Captain Skyblade. Anyway, when it gets to alpha1, Captain Skybalde and David Arthur get a copy. I'm working on a beta list in my head for if and when we do a beta test of it. My current thought is 2 or 3 alpha versions before beta or release. My definitions of alpha and beta are far less clearly defined than Ambrosia's of course, but I have a good idea of where i want to be for each, so that probably works.

I'm integrating the turbolaser, and I still need some idea from Sattomax as to what his ships (Komodo and Starscreamer) look like. Captain Skyblade, if you could contact him sometime on AIM, that would be great. He doesn't list email and I don't have AIM and won't be getting it, so I can't do it. We need either a good description or a concept sketch of some kind for each. If you do it on AIM, it'll be easier, you can just get whatever you think is good enough that we can do good graphics for it.

I've decided that I will do some missions for it, haven't started those yet. They'll probably replace the Alien missions for each side, but there will be a lot more of them.

When we do get to alpha, I'm probably going to start doing more work by email, and leaving this as more of a progress log. Not trying to emulate Nova or anything, but that system seems to work.

Hopefully, I'll get some stuff on my ships posted this afternoon or tomorrow.

Sounds like you're making some progress. Keep it up...

As for contacting Sattomax, I don't have AIM anymore. The only way I would be able to contact him is through e-mail or here at the boards. If we can't get in touch with him soon, I guess we'll have to make our own graphics for his ships...

If you'd like, I could be a beta tester, though I will be out of the loop for the next couple of weeks-until the 22nd of August or so, starting as of the 27th of July. After all, I figure I can find time to read the whole battle for sol thread sometime soon... 🙂 .

Well, I'll keep you in consideration, but I must admit your chances probably aren't as good as some others. Also, even if you don't test, I recommend reading the thread, but set aside a couple three hours at least for it. There are some huge posts in there. Captain Skyblade and I have both made posts that took us almost an hour to compose.

My Devil Ray art is ready, but stupid AT&T; hasn't activated my web space yet. I'll post them as soon as it's ready.

Well, theoretocally, my web space was supposed to be active about... 19.5 hours ago now. If it hasn't been done in 24 hours, AT&T; may start getting some email. 🙂 I'm not worried yet. In fact, I think it's about time to check and see if it's ready yet again...

OK, this should be concept art for the Devil Ray interceptor. Having only minimal 2d apps to work with, it's about the best I could do. The colors got messed up sligtly in the conversion to jpeg, but you get the idea. Obviously, the blue is the cockpit. Black circles beside the cockpit would be Missile launchers. The little pod things above it are Javelin Pods. The spots on the bottom are Fusion Beams for the 2 on the sides, and the middle one is a heavy Rocket Launcher. Make of these what you will.
The images are to scale with each other, and size is 9m long by 6m wide at the back, where the tails flare out, by 2m tall from the point at the bottom to the top of the cockpit. cockpit is 1m tall, and the elevated section behind it is .75m tall. The sloping area at the back of the cockpit is a truncated cone, in case you can't tell, with a base point at the middle of the back, not between the tail flares, but the middle of the line where they come toward the middle and stop before they get there. That line should be 2m wide, btw. Hope this is coherent enough for you, if you need any more views, I can try.

For the Rebel Supercruiser, I don't have any pics, though I can make some if you think you need it. Bascially, to start, think Rebel Cruiser. Take off all the weapons sails, both next to the hull and around the docking rings. Add a third Docking ring. Then add some, I guess pods is as good a word as any, running along it's axis at top bottom, left and right. If you've seen a Rebel Assault Frigate from Star Wars, it's based on that type of thing. If you need a sketch for what I'm talking about I can probably do that. Anyway, if you could make some 3d models of these and render them, that would be great.

Also, where are the spins from your ships? 😛 Still working on those?

I've got someone else who does have AIM tring to contact Sattomax for us, hopefully we can get similar sketches or descriptions from him.

Here's another one, a sketch of he Devil Ray bottom. I modeled the design this is based off of(original also mine) in 3d once before at school in a CAD class(sadly it was on a PC so I don't have the file, that would have made this much simpler) and the bottom part was a bit tricky, and having an ortho view of it helped.

Posted Image

Distance between the tip and point on the bottom should be 5m or 5.5m, your choice. I used 5.5 here, I think, and can't remember what I used on the first one.

Hey, you're doing great with the ship designs! Especially the first one...

Also, if you like, I could re-model or contruct your ships with Infini-D if you like (If you want the "Battle for Sol" plugin to attain the 3D look).

Just an idea.

As for my spins, I'm not getting anywhere. It is very hard to spin ships inside Infini-D, although I know it can be done. I'll probably send my graphics to some experienced 3D spinner and get them to create the spins for me.

Also, since my first Confed Frigate graphic looked pretty pathetic, I re-made it. We can use it for the plug if anyone cares to.

Well, since I have no 3d software available, I was hoping you could do 3d for my two ships, yes. Anyway, the sooner the better on the spďns, those are the main things left that I want before alpha 1. But don't push yourself too hard.

Alright, sounds good. But it could be awhile before I find someone to do the spins...They have to have Infini-D, and they have to have ship-spinning experience.

What about that MakeSpin thing you metioned earlier? Is that an Infini-D plugin or something? Any chance you or someone else could get that to work and do it?

BTW, how much does Infini-D cost, and if it isn't huge, where can I find it? I'd like a good 3d modeling program, just for fun, mostly.

MakeSpin has nothing to do with Infini-D, actually...It is an application designed to spin top-down views of ships only. I'm wanting to spin my graphics at a 30 degree angle, so it has to be done with Infini-D.

Infini-D, before MetaCreations went bankrupt, was about 600 dollars. It is no longer sold, so your best chances of finding it are at ebay.com.

If you're looking for a quallity 3D modeller for free and is relatively easy to find, get Strata. User friendly, and will do anything from beginner to intermediate graphics. You can find it at (url="http://"http://www.strata.com")http://www.strata.com(/url) .

Hope that helps you out.
