Javlins are a lot better. Cheap, small cargo space and fast-firing makes them a lot better in my opinion. With javlins and a turret you can take out a bunch of small fighters FAST. If you want power- space bombs are a lot better than heavy rockets...

Javelins stink. Firt of all buying 999 of them you would have to click 999 times and fter you buy them they are so pitiful they are almost useless unless used to scare away scouts!

Javelins are only useful when they are put on smaller fighters that can't hold heavy rockets. Otherwise, I ALWAYS use Heavy Rockets.

space bombs are the best projectile weapon in the game! 😛 not heavy rockets.

javelins rule. I've edited the weapon where you can get a maximum of four launching pods, and with that firepower along with some nasty energy weapons, taking out a Confederation Cruiser is a piece of cake.

However, a torpedo and torpedo launcher weighs a lot more than a javelin pod and a bunch of javelin rockets.

And, you don't have to click nine-hundred-ninety-nine times; you just have to click twenty times while holding command-option, or option-shift, or control-command or some combination of command, option, control, and/or shift.

True, and besides, who would need a torpedo? Just go in there with primary weapons blazing and kill the executive transport, no need for torpedoes.

While I much prefer torpedoes over missiles, I would never use them on an executive transport. The thing might take a few laser hits before being decimated. 🙂

My opinion on the matter is, javelins are the ultimate close up weapon in the regular ev universe. Nothing, not space bombs, not heavy rockets, not horrible projectiles like torps and missles can compare. The reason is, they are the only practicely renewable weapon in the game (besides primaries like protons, which alone are horrible because you can only get four of them). The thing that makes a good ship is close up weapons, not secondary weapons like missles and junk. If you use javelins like a primary weapon they add so much to your punch even the worst of ships can defeat good ones (usually with a little help from the monty too). Did i hear someone say they don't do enough damage? Well, i have to say that is kind of a rediculous statement. The fact of the matter is, javs do deal good damage (its imperative that you have two launchers though), are easy to deploy, accurate, easily replaceable, and overall great weapons. Heavy rockets are just a bunch of hype and wasted space. 🙂

The question here is javelins vs heavy rockets, not guided projectiles like missiles or torpedoes, which have their own uses, especially in chaotic situations when you only want to bring down one ship. Javelins are very useful in close combat, but big ships of course take several head-on charges to destroy - a chore if your ship is small and lightly armoured. Heavy rockets are hard to aim, but can end a dogfight very quickly. The AI, though, is very good at using them - witness the lightning and corvette pirates. Given the human difficulty in using rockets, plus the weight difference, it's usually better to get the javelins unless you're really good with the rockets - when you carry only 10 or 20 rockets you have to be careful not to waste them. For myself I can't aim the rockets well enough to justify the weight of the launcher and individual rockets - I'd rather get a torpedo launcher and a bunch of torpedoes. Or all the other miscellaneous upgrades - there's never enough space for everything.

I use both missiles and torpedoes depending on what I'm attacking. Big warships; torps. Small fighters/corvettes/etc.; missiles.

Lately, I've actually taken a liking toward missiles. After spending weeks editing my copy of Escape Velocity with ResEdit, I made missiles cost around 2,100 credits, much reducing the original price of a single missile. You can also buy up to four racks, giving you a deadly rate of fire, but at the cost of forty tons of space.

Looking at the math in res-edit. Heavy Rockets do 225 mass damage, and 110 energy damage, with a 100 reload. Whereas, Javelins only do 15 mass damage, no energy damage, with a 10 reload. But I still prefer Javelins, it's like having 2 extra cannons. 😛

Hey, you've got taste! 🙂 With my copy of EV, I have allowed the player to buy up to four javelin pods (it is logical, since even an Apache helicopter can carry four hellfire missile pods), and that spray of javelin rockets means damage to any bunch of fighters. The problem is that your ammo choaks out pretty fast...

I honestly don't use either much, but prefer Heavy Rockets. I don't do so good with cannons, which is effectivey what javelins are, I prefer turrets. On the other hand, for single shots, I seem to have some kind of natural offhand precision with things like Rockets. Also, I don't think the AI is that good with Heavies, I never have much problem dodging them.

That is one thing Override is very good about. If you constantly try circling Voinian ships in particular, the rockets will shoot ahead of your current ship course, and usually score a nasty hit.

This is another one where it depends, but I have to go with javelins. Heavy rockets are really, really powerful, but takes up about 90 tons for a two launchers and 20 rockets. Javelins do a good amount of damage in numbers, and 2 launchers and 999 javelins take up 10 tons.

Think about it...

I agree with everything you said, but even pilots who use heavy rockets would think that twenty or more rockets would be a rediculous number. Being powerful and deadly, it is a good idea to carry 10 heavy rockets or less, to save some much-needed space.

And javelins rule!
