What are the best tools to make characters and objects (like buildings, trees, etc)?

It is probably best to use 3d drawing packages for graphics.

The best tool is an artistic eye. For stationary objects, a good 2D art program is adequate but you have to do the shading and perspective by eye. I have done a number of objects (and even characters) this way. I am sure a 3D program would be better for an animate creature, but since the computer screen is 2D, you can get the effect you want if your artisitc ability is secure enough.

No offense Angel, butthis question has been asked several, different times, and has been addressed several different ways. Just for example, check out this thread: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum48/HTML/002149.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...TML/002149.html(/url)
Good Luck, and take a look around te web, I'm sure there is something that is right for you. Just trying to keep the threads uncluttered (wait a minute, isn't that a moderators job?) 🙂

Can I use Cinema 4D?

I happen to like Bryce, fireworks, and poser. There's also organica and Ray Dream Studio 5. Ambrosia's Snapz Pro 2 or their newest for OSX is VERY helpful. Sometimes I use Photoshop, but I find that Fireworks is easier to use.

(edit) You can use whatever you need to use to make your graphics. I'm not familiar with Cinema 4D. But if you make something, then use Snapz Pro to "take a picture," you don't have to worry about trying to export.

If you have the skills, there's no reason not to. (I use C4D, but I don't have the skills to make good enough graphics. 🙂 ) Coldstone just needs pictures (pict, png, jpeg, bmp) - it really doesn't care how you made them.
