!!!QT problem more serious: Win98 and ME

I have reason to believe that the previously mentioned problem affects all WinME and Win98 based PC's. See: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum48/HTML/002049.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...TML/002049.html(/url)

This means that the workaround for playing QT movies does not work. And music does not play as well. Maybe this is not so serious for most people, but for me this would be a reason to demand my money back, especially since I am in the middle of a project with a theatre festival for children to create a CD to collect an extra income. This project would rely heavily on QT movies.

what format are you saving your movies as?

can coldstone handle any of quicktimes formats?

if so id try a avi or mmpeg format possibly. no .mov

is it imperative that your project runs on peecees, aka it is not a game. if its generally a shareware game and your going to sell it online the odds of a tiny shareware game doing anything on the peecee is remote to none but i can understand if your expecting local support and most people have peecees.

QT movies can run on any pc, but they are skipped because of the workaround that has been thought up here to make QT movies playback nicely. If I do not use the workaround the movies flicker and loop, so that is not an option.

I am going to sell a small game at a local theatre festival for kids in august to raise extra funds for the festival. The chance that any of the people attending the festival does not have a pc is zero to none.

Since in this game one can wander around the festival site and watch people perform (in qt movies) I NEED the QT movies. And all my other projects center around them as well.

I tried using a wait statement, but this did not work.

Tips on using QT movies in Coldstone are here:

just a idea, i have not a clue if it will work since..... im stupid.

what about making the movies animations? a series of big square pictures played in a row? im not sure what size your working at etc or how coldstone would handle it but thats all i can think of is to export a movie as pictures then dump them in a folder as a running ingame animation. pending the size of the movies 800x600 etc and how well each pic can be compressed then stripped of resources by graphic converter that may work?

hmmmm....... i just thought about sound, duh, sigh.

i dont know, it would be a hell of a workaround trying to get sound to sync with a animation especially movie clip long. the problem would be on faster machines which may play the animation faster thus killing the sync of the soundtrack........ it may work if coldstone can force machines to play all the stuff at the same speed then the only probs you wouuld have are slower machines that lag a bit so a emphasis on a certain speed would be paramont so the game doesnt detrack.....

this is almost a better project for director but i hate that bloody app.

Yeah, just ordered a copy of lingo for game programming at Amazon.

Damepeople sugested freezing the player, dunno if that will do any good since it works fine on win2000 and mac. Did not try xp.

------------------

There is also no music on Win98/WinMe. MP3 files are not played and Mov files are not played. Which sugests that the workaround is still working but that the playing of files by QT does not work.

If I insert a wait then I look at a black screen for as long as I tell the script to wait. But no movie.

Still everything works fine on Mac and Win2K.

Chris Dilman the guy working on Bang! (a game engine in development on (url="http://"http://www.plaidworld.com")http://www.plaidworld.com(/url) ) sugested that all this is a real basic related error. Real basic 5 was released earlier this year. Woudl recompiling be the answer?

I have also reported this to help@ambrosiasw.com

And this means what? 🙂

Sorry, my English is not that good, apparantely to understand this? 😉

BTW: David Dunham reported that they are working on the problem with real basic. I asked for a timeframe. I get back to you when I know more.

In the mean time I started working with director since I have a deadline in august.

just means its pretty exciting what hes making (forward scrolling game engine for osx and win32) and depending on what his terms are for liscense, purchase, etc we could have some reeeeaaal fun forward scrollers coming to the mac. (sorry, im a big fan of scrolling shooters!)

hmm, I really had the impression that he is working on a 3d engine, that can either be used with a standalone game editor and as a plugin with real basic. In fact, I had a discussion with him that a 3D engine CAN be used to create 2D games.

------------------

yeah i asked him and he said 2d games could be made with it and hes working on magellan 2 in which i really liked the gameplay from the 1st one. i think a multi over the internet option would be off the hook but that may be too much. cant wait till it comes out.
