I have an idea for a game(made with coldstone of course) and i am wondering if you would like it... I am thinking i will call it Dragon Quest ..... and when you hear thiss you will probably stop reading because you are thinking it will just be another kill the dragon to save the princess deal...but you would be wrong...because in Dragon Quest you will be the dragon...you will be guarding a princess, and you will have to gain other monsters as allies, and kill any valient knights who come...I think it will be quite interesting....i dont know if this has been done before...(With a dragon.i know there is currently a game being made where you are the evil dude...thats where i got the inpiration to do it with a dragon.) Just tell me what you think....any constructive criticism is wanted....Thanks.

Sounds fun, but the basic problem with leting the player be the bad guy is that the bad guy usualy has massive, powerful forces that the player is expected to defeat with his or her small reasources through superior cleverness. Since the player has both superior reasources and cleverness in a game where they are controling the 'bad guy', it is rather hard to imageine the computer's inferior and stupid character defeating the player.
Of course, you can make the player weaker or the enemy stronger, but either may leave the player saying 'What! But I'm a dragon, I should be able to take a couple knights!" Or whatever.

Where do you want to (url="http://"http://www.macclassics.com/cythera/tricks/rJade.htm")teleport(/url) today?
it would be cool i think. i know i played a game on the pc thats semi similar but with no dragon. dungeon something in which you were a evil overlord and you build parts to your dungeon and fill them with baddies and then after a set time the heroes come down looking to kick your ass and as the game goes on the heroes get stronger and more numerous to come get your dungeon treasure or kidnapped villagers. it was a pretty cool game. i can see it being done as a dragon although a dragon seems a bit big but it can be done. maybe as a younger dragon and his parents tell him he needs to learn how to be a big bad dragon so he sets out eatin peeples then every time he sucsessfully finishes a quest he gets a part of his dragons lair. and then after each quest he defends his new lair frmo a rush of badguys or hunters or knights. then he quests again etc and keeps getting better items till he gets a princess!........
forf fighting you could make the dragon a kid at 1st you know? maybe hes fast but he doesnt have the strength yet. and maybe these dragon dont grow to be HUGE but maybe the size of a elephant. like puff the magic dragon size.
and dont name it dragon quest, thats pretty old. although it would be his quest.......
god every time someone comes up with a cool idea makes me wanna stop what im doin and work on it.
i just woke up, im sorry...........

Why do you type " n e thing " when "anything" is easier to type and easier to read? Nobody docks you for a misspelled word here, but AOLspeak is frowned upon. Please try to make your posts easy to read.

Interesting...
Well, you might have a problem with the allies thing, because most anything that attacks and isn't the player will attack the player. I think, anyway. Coldstone can be a bit limited in some areas, such as parties, allies, etc. Don't ask me, but there might be ways you can get allies.
Oh yeah, you MIGHT want to refrain from using so many dots in about every sentence. It gets kind of annoying to read all those sentences ending with more than one period. It kind of destracts me so I concentrate more on the periods than on the words. o.O

Y' know the easiest thing to do would be to ignore his bad "grammar" and find something more constructive to do, such as privately contact him about his "habits" instead of:

How uptight. Either: Discreetly contact him, Petition for a Karma Slap or leave it alone.
The bandwagon approach isn't constructive. He'll cool out eventually and his daily post count will settle and the excitement will level out...

Sounds fun... I m also creating an RPG where you're the bad guy... (damn... you're an idea-stealer then....? just kidding there is no dragon in my RPG just an Orangina O_o )... well... for Bryce..; it's not a pbm being the bad guy..; of course in almost every RPGs the bad guy is overpowerful, and you're level 1 and must level-up-up-up to defeat him... same goes here fo the bad guy..; you begin the game with the intention of being the suprem bad guy, but you're not yet... you're still a poor little level 1 bad guy with no reputation... One or two things about your idea though... naming your game Dragon Quest is not a really good idea since Dragon Quest is a very well known playstation RPG, with an almost better reputation than Final Fantasy itself (at least in Japan) and I heard Dragon Quest VII already exists... And DJ... the game you played was Dungeon Keeper... where you are the evil guy, managing a dungeon and killing the Heros who enter it.... but this was not an RPG at all... so the general idea has already been used though not much and never in RPG I think...

The DragonQuest Series springs from the DragonWarrior series that dates back to preAtari Machines(circa '81) and has had an incarnation on just about every major console in/outside the US.
It was created by a company known As Enix, which for a long time had an opponent in a company known as Square, i say known as because they've since merged into one company.
I didn't say anything earlier...i thought you'd find another name far away from DragonQuest , -warrior, -legend, -fighter and pretty much any title with the word dragon in it, just try screwing with the spelling, perhaps doing it phoenetically(using "the characters in the dictionary")
Its not that some gigantic company has nothing better to do than track down all offenders, its just that they have legions of nerds, fans, loyalists, and employees with families and friends or simply people who like to casually chat on message boards who might pass it through the grape vine. s'not like they'll immediately sue you, you'll probably get a nasty cease and desist first either from the company or like i said one of they're unassociated nerds.
'Sides names close to other names cause an immediate, cubconcious/concious comparison to take place, word association. SO to keep it from being compared to a product with other, possibly better commercial grade ; functions/gameplay/graphics/control/polish/design/marketting/reputation etc ... so forth so on
Was this game you speak of the same sort of idea? Where you are the dragon..or was it where u go on a quest to KILL a dragon...cause if it was then al i gotta do is change the name..by the way...anybody got any good ideas for a name?

Hi. Dragon Quest is a insanely popular game over in japan, with the 8th game in development and has had several side (gameboy games) produced as well. Over here in Canada (and I guess North America) it is called Dragon Warrior, because the name Dragon Quest was already trade marked by some other company (maybe TSR??) You could call your game: Legend of the Wyvern. Wyverns are a type of Dragon.
For more info on Dragon quest please see: (url="http://"http://www.dqshrine.com/")http://www.dqshrine.com/(/url)
Just my two cents.
So this game doesnt have much resemblance to the one i am making right?

It wouldn't even matter, the rule goes, if the products are of the same industry the opne with the most cash/seniority/current vaalid copyright dates wins...even if you had by some chance onwed the rights you'd be crushed. Case Study: Coors Soda (SoftDrink) v. Coors Brewery THe guy who owned the softdrink company had been in business well prior to coors brew.co. on top of that it was his actual name, he got buried...
Actually i was just asking because if the game has already been made, by some big ass company, then i wouldnt have bothered to make it, if it could just end up causing some problems...
nah your game hasnt really been made. the idea of being a bad guy has been done a few times but really hasnt been explored especially by any big companies and your take and spin on it is fine. actually it doesnt even matter if your idea had already been done since all youd have to change is the story and graphics. gameplay or the overall idea behind gameplay is openly shared, stolen, evolved in every way shape and form from every medium available. the latest features if good ideas are always swiped by the competition or one-up'ed. the reward of coming out with good ideas or twists first is great reviews, stature among gamers as to who did it 1st, and money if your idea or "twist" was good enough. go nuts, make your game.
if your looking for another name to your game im sure we could have a brain storm in the forums and come up with a few good ones and more than enough humorous ones (looking Ell's wei)

Well, it's not like the whole post was just that. I did offer my view on the game and such. I apologize for not doing that. It was just a side thought. shrug

Are you sure about that? The oldest Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) I know of is the (unnumbered, and thus presumably first) one for the NES (and thus presumably the Famicom as well) which was circa 1986. What game are you thinking of as being older and pre-Atari?
