walking a better path

I just started all this and down loaded PoG to get a feel for what the engine is cappable of. I stoped playing in 5 minutes in part because the graphics looked iritaingly simple and impart because of its quirks. The walking system seems to be limited to 8 compass directions and isnt to sutle about its effect. Is there any way to change that(say to 16 directions by dividing the current ones?) or is it completly hard coded into the engine. My ather quible with it was the completly idiotic lack of indoors support.

What control would you use for the other 8 directions, CGE is limited to 8 directions.
I thought the graphics were decent, they can, of course, be replaced by any graphics you choose.
What lack of indoor support?

I dunno wut i ment when i yaped about indoor support, the graphics of course are a matter of preference and can be replaced. as to the directions, i move using the mouse so that should take care control, that is IF its possible to do what i asked about

You cannot travel in more than 8 direcctions, the mouse only makes it appear smoother.
the system is completely grid based.

... That staples it.

thats the problem tho, the mouse DOESNT make it apear smoother, it LOOKS so horribly grid based, not really smooth at all.

PoG uses a 32x32 pixel movement grid. Although any game made with Coldstone will require a movement grid to define NPC and item coordinates, linked events, and character access, I see no reason why a game you would make couldn't use a more finely subdivided grid, except that it would take longer to create and would require somewhat more memory.

I don't know what I'm talking about.
Oh no, here comes another learning experience.
Oderint dum metuant?

I'm using photos in combination with rendered images right now.

In poser I have created a nice waling animation of 20 frames and my 'hero' walks smoothly.

There are several disadvantages - too much emphasis on fighting and levels etc for my taste. But maybe that's just me. Well, I would like to see a more abstract game system, but right now I can live with it.

What about suport for inscreen text, several styles for dialog screens and timelines and more possibilities for animations outside blocking, fighting, walking and throwing spells?

Use your imaginations, there are many, many possibilities with the CGE engine, I suggest reading some of the tutorials ellrx has on his site, and reading some of the old webboard posts, there are a lot of ideas posted here that will never make it into a produced game, and almost none of them are the standard PoG style game. Poke around and look at the screenshots of our game, which completely ignored the standard CGE battle/character/level system. CGE is what you make of it.

Despite the fact it may be right under my face - can I have a link to this site please?

To save myself some cutting and pasting, the fourth post in this thread was by ellrx, his site links are in his signature.

If you want to build indorrs, you can download some good indoor builders(including one made by me) at the Coldstone Addons page in the Newest Graphics section.

I was just trying to slip you a placebo there. But in general when you physically press 8 buttons it does sink in, that "HEY this thing only has 8 DI-RECTIONAL capabilities" or something to that effect....i'm no fan of point and click moving and in fact wish i could cripple a few failsafes/hard wired functions of the engine.

Thanx for the plug, (7 additional hits)
