i contacted this guy about porting this product to the Mac, either as a standalone application or a plugin for a 3D application, I specifically asked for Carrara because it's what I use, and it's (from what I understand), relatively easy to make two versions. What this product does is provide you with a series of dials to create beings, of almost any shape you can imagine, go check out the stuff on their site (http://www.fxrsoft.com/). Why is this so great, you ask? What about Poser, you say? Well, Poser is great, it really is, but what some of you may not realize is that it ships with just about zero usable content for a video game, requiring you to purchase more, or create more, requiring tons of money, or tons of time and skill. The nice thing about creature creator is that you can modify the stuff you make with it in your 3D application, or in Creature Creator itself, unlike Poser. If you buy a werewolf, you got a werewolf. What about the DAZ studio you told us about? Heh, that's nice too, and free, but you still need content, which costs money, lots of it. The average figure is $20, and to do a game, you'll need what, 30-40 different characters/beasts? You do the math. The point to all this is the guy from FXR asked me how big the Mac market would be, well....we have 3-4% of the market worldwide...I wanted to know if you guys would be interested in such a product making it to the Mac, I know I want it. Drop this guy a line, maybe we'll see this come our way, it's about a $200 investment, but it's better than buying Poser, then content, or using the same grfx that someone else is using, or using Nintendo grfx on a fantasy game. And with point and click character creation, we can all be artists So, what you think?

personally id really want to do my own characters and stuff so using something like this would more or less be out of the question. but. it sounds great for coldstone. heck we could even do a project where a few people make models and a few people attach animations to then and render them out and we could have a vast library of monsters running around. that does sound like fun and very exciting. but. i also have to question, would it be worth this guys time to make this for the mac. i dont know if anyone would use it outside of the coldstone circle, im not sure who else would use it, maybe another small game developer, maybe. so i mean as much as it would rock for us i wouldnt wanna screw a guy over you know? i just dont know if hed make enough money back or something. i mean he has to get a mac, learn how to use it, learn to translate the app etc......

Go check out the money spent on Poser figures, that's exactly wher he would make his money, it's a large business, and it's why he advertises in that circle. Making your own figures is great too, but how many of us have the skill to create humanoid figures from scratch for a game, not to mention around 40 of them, my guess is zero, judging from what i've seen.
à agree with dampeople... if this guy can make some profit with his app on the mac, I would personnaly be very interested in his software... I can modelise things, but organic material is another matter... it's the hardest... and I ve tried Maya, Lightwave, Amapi... it doesn't come from the soft itself... there IS something about organic that just makes it really hard to modelise... such an app would be great...

I am in Dampeoples. Let's get creature creator ported as a standalone program. This will be a big help for my project. How fast can he port the program?
Where do i invest?

There is a Lightwave plugin named Creature creator. It works exactly as you described.
Has anyone else here ever used art of illusion? its a free open-source 3d modeling and rendering program written in java, so it works on any machine with java virtual machine installed. its not anywhere near as advanced as some of the commercial apps but it works well, is easy to use, produces some great graphics and its free!

yeah, the guy said there used to be a Mac Lightwave plugin floating around, so apparently there was interest at one time, but I don't have Lightwave, or $1500
I'm using Blender (www.blender3e.com) a now open source 3D program that has always been free. Starting to use it is a bit hard but when you are past a certain point it is great. But it is not poser or anything like it.
Does anybody know if this program would work under virtual windows?
If you have a pc though.. can you still use the creature creator on the pc, export.. and then bring into coldstone on your mac?

Not sure if it would work under VPC or not, I assume it would, it would just probably be slow. As far as exporting into Coldstone, sure. you don't use the 3d model itself in Coldstone, just the rendered image.
well I'm new to the whole texture mapping/3d rendering scene... I take it you still need lightwave, studio max or other 3d renderer to add texture and color to the creature model.. or does fxr's program do all of that as well? And if not, any freebie proggies you might recommend? blender?
