...which is one reason why I have a firewire drive so I can back everything up.

Weekend status report:Some CF2 Ships now fit the specs as they should. Still unshure about the Hunter, Nuke Delevery system, Support unit.

Tinkered around with some of the CF3 ships as well. Am now satisfied with the look of the new stillito model.

Some thoughts.

The only reason the colonies ever built their own military is to combat the pirate threat. Therefore, their tech works best attacking pirates. However, the pirates tech is much better, so they are sort of at a standstill. The normal colony militia is more skilled, driven, motivated then the pirates. so their skills outmatch those of the P. The first mission of the story is to bring the player into the pirate problem. something like:
"Greetings player, since you have just graduated from training, and still have the skills fresh on your mind. We are going to give you your first taste of real action. As you know, there are roving bands of pirates who are attacking supply freighters carrying precious cargoes between planets. An SOS call has come in from the (CF1, SFS)(CF2, FWCS)(CF3, PRTS) Name. We are scrambling you to chase off the p attacking it. Then escort it home.
Of course, the barbarian story will be different, since they are basically organized
P.

The next missions could center on laying a trap for the major p fleets. Finding/destroying the p bases. Once the player gets good enough, the missions branch off into their respective race directions. ie: Anti barbarian for CF2, Fight alien uprising for CF3, Quell Miners union for CF1, ect.

CF2 is the most sophisticated colony. Their tech is very good, although the P and GRE are still more advanced. The CF3 has the most veteran military, they have been at constant war with the aliens. They can outwit most other CF's in battle, but the tech of the GRE is a killer to them. CF1 is traditionally calm, one thing they have on their side is resources. The large asteroid belt provides them with any metals they need for the construction of warships.

Another problem: There is a slight problem with doing this alter action thing. Firstly, about the fighter...
As you said patrick, when you target a station, and send the fighters to it, then they will automatically launch the Teams. When sending a bunch of fighters, you get something like 10 ATeams floating around in space. This can be fixed by making it so that the AI won't use it whenever they are targeted to a station. Then you can just do it manually. The only problem with this is, that the enemy wont use it either.

sounds good, maybe slightly comic additives to the brefings, like words coming out wrong because of bad transmitions, or somthing. dont leve it to me though or it will come out like a small pile of marsh gass expelled from a hummingbirds insert word here.

you will just have to be carefull with your fighters then, wont you. And you can make it so they dont fire at your own stations, its in one of the flag menus (not the use for attack/defence thing, keep that on use for transport thingy.)

Some Improvements needed...
CF3
Stillito needs a beam weapon or fast recharge of the carrion missiles, and more shields. (Once it uses up its four missiles, its totally useless!)
Carrion missile needs to go a little faster, or the stillito needs to be slowed down.(I can keep up with the carrion missile, flying right along side it the whole way.)
No autotarget for plague missile. Keeps aiming at other missiles, pulses and such, not very good.

CF2
War Cruiser could use more shields.
Transports need less shields. They tempt people to use them as warships because they are so durable.(I found i could notch up my advantage if i built only transports!)
Nuke system needs to be slower, have more shields, have a fast recharge of missiles.
The Support unit should be slower, very slow accel and turn, and have more shielding.

P
Ditch the mines! They suck for a weapon. (I tried to surround a enemy ship with mines... its impossible.) They should be for special use on a mission. As a blockade of a planet or something. Rockets or pulse weapons should be used to substitute.

All the ones on the Nasa site are simply hundreds of pics placed together, and are disscolored from each other, looks chopped up. The colonies had the time to build sevral stations. I've finished making the ones for the CF3 and CF2, i still need to make the BAR and P stations. Patrick can i have you make a station for the Miners union, to place in the middle of the two belts?

Yah, I was already planning on at least 1 type of MU station. For the MU vs cf whatever it was plot to work I figure the MU is gonna need quite a few , possibly cloaked outpost stations scattered throught the Belt-otherwise the CF navy would just blow their one station away and starve them of oxygen water food etc.

On the Stiletto, though: It's supposed to be a suicide raider. Charges in, fires a heavy paylod of Carrion missiles, not too much slower than the carrion missiles, and self-destructs when it's destroyed. I suppose you could change it so it purposefully rams stuff.

Neat Idea for a mission, i just made a Radar Station
(Like the gatori Radar Station) that serves as the space trafic controll for the system of Proxima. The P have raided it and destroyed it, because it would alert the cf2 milita every time they tried to attack the planets. You must guard a set of repair freaghters to the station and protect them as they repaire it.

Also, in the mission breifings, throw things in there like, "STC01-Proxima has detected a fleet of pirate vessels heading this way." And In mission messages,
"Source:STC01-Proxima
Alert!
More Pirate warships coming this way."

Some scatered thoughts abotu the Sol System...

Earths moon was destroyed during WW3.
(Large Russian base was on the far side of the moon, A large fleet of US ships were equiped with nukes and blasted the base. Unfortionatly they blew the whole side of the moon off, the rest broke apart and became astroids.)
Large atmospheric stations where placed in Jupiters atmosphere. Same thing with saturn and neptune.
Mercury only has a small science base. To hot for much aything else.
No space stations in the sol system, all previous science stations in orbit around earth were blown up during WW3.

And looks like my copy of Hera finaly went kaplooi. The SIMV converting prosses makes my planets small and chopps them up.

Well I have sketched out a first draft of the story. Emailing it to Mag and Skyfox in a bit, are there any others who need it?

I have also completed the MU with all ship sprites and briefing picts done. All that remains is a second, bigger main station for them(Already have an Outpost-type sprite)

US blowing up the moon is a typical US type action. Selfish all the way. Without the moon, the tides wouldn't function and fish would die, as well as phytoplankton, obviously. Then 80% of the world's oxygen generators would be gone.

I think they were actually planning to blow it up during the cold war...

I must say, I don't think the few nukes we'd use to blow away a base could crack the Moon's crust-it is, after all, 1/4 the size of Earth. And if the bombs were that good - er,bad 😉 , I think we could say g'bye to Earth as well. But hey, just a game right 😉

Oh yeah, bout the no space stations- I think we can assume stations/power stations/shipyards were rebuilt after WW3, at least for the military of the new GRE to build the assault fleet and fend off the NFfT.

Ok, maybe, but that means i'll also need a GRE station sprite. The problem is that already the object count is going to present problems. If we are going to add satations, it think it would be better for the P of the sol system to have a few kuper(sp?) belt objects, like pluto.
