I agree. The readme for a plugin should put the player on the path. From there it is up to the player to follow the path or to get lost.
Of course, it also all depends on how much support you wish to give. The less info you give out, the more questions will invariably be asked.

In principle, I agree. But in this case, I didn't put players on the path so therefore no dialogues or actions start unless you stumble into Harold. Obviously, everything is not in the read-me, but where to start probably should be. A simple line, "Go to Fantrima and talk to people there." would have been appropriate.
What's done is done and the "read-me" won't get changed unless version 1.0.1 is needed. In playing through, I've found half a dozen things I'd like to change. This will only happen if a major problem rears an ugly head. In the meantime, have some fun with it. I do.

Don't take all that on yourself, Ducky....a players path in a RPG (and I think we've established PoG as one) such as PoG starts out in Fantrima...if people don't run into Harold in the first place (w/new character)...eh...maybe they're blind?? And..if people are using their "old" characters....Fantrima is STILL a place to start....logically?? ...and besides, DiD, doesn't even start till you talk to Harold...no? No one said you had to hold someone's hand to start a quest in a plug-in. It makes it so MUCH more interesting finding these things on your own. Maybe "go to Fantrima" would have been appropriate or not...who can say...woulda, shoulda, coulda..I think you gave "enormous" hints already in the Read Me. Don't let "over eager to finish" people sway the way you introduced the plug in. It's all about exploring and finding out new things...you think?
Anyway...I think your new plug-in/game in itself is going fabulously!!! I hope that when I make a plug-in, (look at me being all positive and assured that I'll get Coldstone and be able to come up with something) it will be half as good as yours!!!
But, then again, this is how my one brain cell works!

You will be able to see better, and hence explore more, if you get your head out of there.

Ahhhh...so that's my problem...who woulda thunk it!!
Still exploring in that ever so charming anal retentive way of mine
I downloaded Damsels the second day it was available, and I really had fun playing it, and now I'm really stuck at one point. I got to the point where you have to find the goblin who stole the final parchment. OK, I found the goblin's cave west of Fantrima, killed all the goblins inside, and found the locked chest, but I can't find a key. I've been over every inch of that cave for a whole day and didn't find anything. Could someone please help me?

Hi LifeKnight, welcome to the boards. Have you checked your quest scroll and done the things you should?

I have done everything up to the point of finding the last parchment scrap. The only thing on the quest scroll is "Find the Goblin". I also have not been in the cave until Harold told me about the goblin.

Originally stated by Quest Scroll: You owe it to yourself to see what the fishing contest is all about. After all, Sterling placed a lot of faith in his silly looking hat. Will it really work for him?
And what did Sterling say when you talked to him???

He said that he wanted to win the fishing contest and didn't care who fished in it. Is that a clue?

That's not Sterling's line. Talk to people on both sides of the stream. If, by chance, you have already talked to Sterling and have not recorded what he said, perhaps you might search in the bottom of your inventory sack for something you don't know you have. ~RD

I have talked to all the people on both sides of the stream. I remember one saying something about a goblin stealing a lucky hat, but so far that hasn't helped me any. Am I missing something?

Yes, but I'm not going to say what on the web board yet. I have AIM: fwwj - and e-mail: rduck@optonline - use either one you like or keep looking. That's the most I can do for now. ~RD

Thanks, check your email.

If you want not to be "given" the answer...as RD said...check your inventory...but I suggest you check it carefully. If you're still stuck...then email RD...
Thanks for your help, Rubber Ducky. I rescued two of the girls, but now I need to find to Troll Central. Where is it? Is it the Troll's lair south of Witch Finger? If so, then what am I looking for?

I think there are other players here who do not want everything given away on the boards. (Me being one of them.) If I wanted to write a walkthrough, you could just connect the dots. What kind of fun is that? A lot of information is already given but this is not a "paint by numbers" game. Explore, search, use intuition. The good Queen Ariana asked for your help because she thought you were resourceful. Prove her right. Otherwise, Aigburr The Exalted might say, "I told thee so." ~RD

Ok, I suppose I should try I little harder and wait until I'm REALLY stumped, like with the goblin's cave. I'll lookm around the Troll's Lair which is in the standard game, and hope I find something.
Rubber Ducky, perhaps you could make a hint walkthrough. If a player has a question such as: where do I fnd Upper Berglum, then they could go to the site where the walkthrough is and it would have hints saying things like: start looking in upper part of the city of Berglum. If, after all of the hints, they are still stumped, then they can e-mail you.

uhm...maybe it's just me...but finding "Upper Berglum"....well...c'mon...upper as in upper...that IS a big hint if you ask me...combined with the original read me...which is to be read... would lead you in the right direction. Also...I think that a "walkthrough" at this point is a little premature...most people spend time thinking and figuring out...that's what the game is about. Now, after it's been out for a while...a walkthrough could happen...like Stark's for PoG...but...it's Ducky's creation and he would have the say so about all this.
just my two cents...
