Would it be possible to animate stars (other than when you select it to land, like hypergates).
I find it pretty easy to make stars using an omni light source on Cinema4d; if this is possible, I can create an animated star to use in plugins.
If it's not possible, then there's not much point unless you want to see a wavy star when you're about to commit suicide.

I don't know if anyone has answered this yet, but it's a pretty simple matter to prevent the AI ships from trying to land on the sun. When you add the stellar to the system, don't put it in one of the four hotkey positions, because according to the Nova Bible, that's how the AI ships navigate in the system. If it's not in one of the first for slots, then the AI ships can't see it.
Another idea is to make it uninhabitable - you know the "this planet's environment is too hostile". Have you ever seen the AI trying to land on an unlandable stellar? View Post
That's not actually what it means. It's mistakenly left over from when EVO also required you to tell the spob what system it belonged to and has no meaning to Nova. And yes I have seen the AI trying to land on an unlandable stellar. I've seen Sprites that appear to do cargo runs back and forth between Kel'ar Iy and that other thing in the system.

What do you mean hidden black holes? Did you just not do graphics for them thinking that since they are black holes you could get away with it?
FYI current studies sugest that black holes do have color. View Post
Black holes may have color, but we still can't see them. That's why they're called black holes - they just look like a black nothing to us.

Yup, just add multiple frames to your sprite and use the AnimDelay and FramOBias fields plus some other flags to set it up.
I mean they're difficult to find, like the wormholes in Nova.

Recent studies show that black holes are luminous. And as long as were on the subject of black holes (which are related to suns) I fell it important to say that the wormhole system in Nova is completly imposible. A worm hole is a "conector" between a black hole and a white hole.
Now, can we get bact to the main reason that I posted this topic. Unless you have something to say about astronomical phonomenon (I've changed it from suns) don't post here. Thanks
Also, do any of you know the maximum file size for an rleD or rle8s? The ones I'm using are 1.4 M. Are these to large?

So don't talk about graphics except you're asking about graphics here... And yes 1.4mb is rather large. Try reducing the resolution.
Has anyone thought what the picture in the EV Nova title page is about? No stars actually go supernova and expand with space ships fast enough to escape.

You can still ask how to use them in Nova.

I started this topic, I said that, I can bend the rules I lay down.
Having Stars in-system is a very OLD idea (not that it is a bad one) there are several old TC's that sport them (M&D, Galaxy's Edge, etc), black holes are also very old (Frozen Heart, New Horizons, etc). You have to think of something truely unique to put your name on it, and these days there are few things left untried and untested.

I had guessed that, but I am also planning to include several other items that may or my not have been used before. They will not be released yet as I don't want people to take them and say that they came up with them themselves.
See, that's why noone knows anything about Kemet! I don't want to be dissapointed to hear how everyone's beat me to the punch with everything else.

True, you Kement website doesn't even say much about it. All it has are some pictures and a few other things. Nothing like keeping all the important info hidden, now is there.
I don't want to go into it here. It really isn't the appropriate venue. Suffice to say that I've been working on it for nearly three years and now, this year, I can finally have a chance to finish it.
Really, I'm not trying to be mysterious on purpose. It's just REALLY hard for me to explain anything without telling the whole story and making it pointless to play the damn thing.

I understand. If I were in the same position as you I would probally be doing the same thing.
The unfortunate thing about Nova is it lets you have 2048 spobs, but only 255 different spins for spob graphics. That makes it almost impossible for you to have different graphics for every spob without having a ridiculously small universe. To bad.
You consider < 255 spobs to be a ridiculously small universe?
On the small end, yes, but not ridiculously so. EVN Firefly has 158 spobs in 203 systems at present, and while that may increase somewhat, it isn't going to change drastically. I think it's large enough to tell the story I'm interested in telling.
(Plus, I didn't want my TC to be so ambitious that I gave it up, so I aimed for something reachable.)
EDIT: Oh, suns. Umm.....two of those spobs are suns!
This post has been edited by Lindley : 17 January 2005 - 05:36 PM
There are currently over 1300 spöbs in SFA, and I need to add more, in order to be as true as I can be to the complete Star Trek universe.
Please note: This is a stupid amount of spöbs.
I will repeat:
This is a stupid amount of spöbs.
Writing the descriptions for these damned things is taking forever.
What the hell was I thinking?
This post has been edited by UncleTwitchy : 17 January 2005 - 05:59 PM
I am keeping the original Nova universe and adding about 70 systems. I am just redoing almost all of the planet graphics plus the addition of suns.
I was talking about only having 255 spins for spob graphics. I would love to be able to give every planet and sun a different set of graphics but that wont happen unless I drasticly reduse the number of systems. That won't happen. So I am stuck using repeats of graphics. That sucks.

You might try a variation on what I did----go to a Trek message board (TrekBBS.com is pretty good), and just start a thread asking for 1-paragraph descriptions. Give a list of the planets you haven't done yet.
You might need to make some edits, and you'll have to give credit, but it will probably speed things up significantly.

It would have to be a long paragraph. Besides, if you have so many planet, just get rid of some.

Your using them?!?! Dang I wanted the exclusive rights. View Post
It seems that the Eternal Wars dev team is not alone.
We might even add an 'easter egg' in the final version that will give you a mission to land on a small sun, and the sun will be 'deadly spob' type. Be forewarned, because accepting the mission will lock you out of any major string until it is completed. There will be a very 'unconventional' way to finish the mission, however.

That's not a bad idea -- if only the majority of internet Trek fans weren't such pedantic, purile nerds. (And that includes me since I took on this project.)

To paraphrase the late, great Frank Zappa, ain't gwing happing. I have always intended make the most complete map of Star Trek's Alpha and Beta quadrants, and that, unfortunately, means over 1300 spöbs.

True. However, for what it's worth, I've found that TrekBBS (I moderate there) has a generally higher level of intelligence than most Trek boards. Generally.
Plus, I've already broken some of them into the "EVN Style" requesting help for EVNFF.
