I have this idea for a plug-in - bear with me while I get to the point. Many years ago, I had a set of books, detailing all the spacecraft of the Terran Trade Federation. There were some great ships, illustrated by some of the best SF artists around. A few years ago, I managed to get hold of these books again, and decided to have a go at making 3D models of some of my favourites. You can see the results of that on my website at: (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/aemann/tta/index.html")http://homepage.mac..../tta/index.html(/url)
Anyway, I now have a collection of detailed, textured Strata 3D models, with all the specs, history, etc. and it seems like an obvious thing to me to make them into ships for EVN. Imagine, battling Sharks in a Hornet, or shifting cargo in a Consolidated Connestoga! Buying ships from the great Martian shipyards, or even from the Alpha Centauri yards... you get the picture!
However, after poring over the EVN bible, and Resedit, templates, and all the rest, I can see it's a bit beyond the meagre capacity of my brane! So if anyone can help out, I can supply the necessary movies for the sprites, and some equivalent specs (i.e. Hornet is sorta Starbridge with knobs on...). I can imagine a whole alternative TTA Nova based galaxy,,, but that's another story. Anyone interested? Any suggestions? I'd like to try out one ship, just for the fun of flying around in one of my models!

Did you see rmx256's (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/005617.html#")topic(/url) from a week ago? He's working on a total conversion (TC) plug that (from his perspective) centers on a human civilization that has been out of contact with Earth for millennia, and wants someone else to take over fleshing out the ships, etc., of the people left behind on Earth.
You would both have to be flexible, but perhaps he would be willing to modify his future timeline to use your models and borrow some elements from the materials in the books from which you've been working. Consider sending him an email -- he wants his "Kemetic" people to interact with a well-developed Earth-centric society, and you've got one.

I like the style of texturing you used on the Terran ships. Kind of reminds me of Homeworld2 ships. I also like the style of your scenes, they look cool and stylized. Nice job.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I browsed through the site.
A minor problem with Dr. Trowel's (very good) idea. Basically, this person has storyline and specs, and extensive ones at that, that go behind the ships that he's modeled. By reading the Kemet page, it becomes apparent that he'd have to radically change or even throw away much of that ancilliary data to make his ships fit in with the Kemet universe, and that might not be something he would be inclined to do.

I'm working on a partial conversion of EVnova. It is a total redoing almost. feturing all new ships and outfits, weapon and ship graphics. I need some more ship modles and sprites. I would appretiate it if you could e-mail me at nextgenddrer21@hotmail.com (not with the movie though) so we could discuss it further. Of course I would give you full credit for the new ship's design. I could even give them some of the attributes you want. so ya, just e-mail me so we can talk about it more.

I'll third the comment about homeworld 2.
Actually, I think that the stuff you've got there is better suited to a full 3D engine, such as homeworld. I don't know if there are any customizable 3D space combat engines though. I'm just adding my two bits.

I wouldn't want anyone to have to throw away any of thier work on my expectations Though your ships do look good... Is this some obscure scifi thing that I've not heard of? I get that it was a book but what was it based on? Just artwork, etc? or was there a plot behind it? Curious...

Hi All,
Thanks for all the suggestions and stuff. Homeworld - I was in contact with a 'Homeworld' guy a while back, and it seems that much of the look and feel of the ships, if not the actual designs, was influenced by the TTA stuff.
Obscure scifi thing? Well, the books were done by a guy called Stewart Cowley, who put together the future history, and used the work of lots of different artists to illustrate it. We're talking the likes of Angus McKie, Jim Burns, Bob Layzell - not exactly household names, but if you've ever seen a science fiction book, you've more than likely seen some of their work. Most of the pics in the series of 4 books had previously appeared in their own right as book covers. So, what we have is basically collections of great SF ship art with a back story weaving it all together. It mainly involves humans expanding into space, encountering other civilisations, and unleashing hideously beweaponed death flotillas and having mighty battles in space... great! Plus other assorted wierdness thrown in. Many of the systems in the TTA world, e.g. Lalande 21185, Alpha Centauri, Sirius etc. are also in the EVN world. Anyway, there's a small but dedicated bunch of us TTA fans, even though the first book appeared in 1978!
The way I see it is that in the 'official' EVN world, there's some of the old TTA stuff floating around too - which you can still get your hands on. Hardbeam laserlances, OPA 8 Particle weapons, CACE 43 Skymaster engines - maybe there's a company producing 'retro' ships for the discerning collector!
