I'm curious if this seems as if it would make a decent EVN ship. It's my first serious effort since my wife said that my last one looked like a block of wood suspended between two d*****.

(If the picture fails to show up, please look at the TC's website, it's the bottom pic on the page. I can't get it to work on my computer for some reason.)

I have it sprited out, with banking and engines. Mechanisto was used, but I am sure that most can tell. Yes it is a carrier. If this is accepted as 'decent', I'll probably go ahead and redo all the ships for my TC (about thirty shäns total), as this one only took about five hours total time over three days.

Apologies if this is an innapropriate post, quite sorry. Looking for feedback in an area that I'm used to visiting...

Yeah, that'd work. 🙂

It shows up? I can't get the picture to work here. Perhaps I need a better host...

Control-click it (I'm making up for all those damn "right-click it"s) and open it in a new window, or new tab, or the same page, or whatever. Then refresh.

That works for me, too.

Hey, rmx256, by the way, here are small spelling mistakes on your website for Kemet: 2nd paragraph: all the signs of PERVIOUS civilization ( ) thier lives, thier old planet and ways eventually becomming a ( ) Military, ferriting out ( ) on thier mission ( )

Make sure you correct all "thier"s to "their"s in your TC or you will have many comments regarding the spelling :frown:

As for the ship, I like the idea, but might I suggest (though I'm not at all a graphics person) maybe revising the front deck look? I find those "waves" a little queer
Once again, I'm not at all a graphics person, so don't be offended.

If you really want your hopes shattered and your tip torn apart by criticism, post in the EV Image Gallery. But even so, remember that your ship doesn't need to look as good as ATMOS's graphics. Also, remember that sprites always look better than large renders of the ship.

If you really want your ship to look as good as Dave's, you'll need a whole lot of detail and texture work. In other words, you won't get it in even your first hundred tries. 😉 If you're serious about graphics work, it'll take you a lot more than 5 days to get a ship to look just right.

Even so, it doesn't look bad at all, especially compared to some others I've seen (many were my own ;)). But if you are trying to get serious about making high quality, professional graphics, get some advice from the EVIG.

(If it fails to show up, it is the second picture on my TC's site.)

This is my second ship. Evidently it unfolds to fire. I think (despite the fact that the beam looks like crap and the lighting is askew) it is a great deal better than the Hui-Class carrier (my first ship). The beams are supposed to start in the three little nacelles like on the Death Star and then, I guess, ignite in front of the two shell-looking things and shoot out from that point, but I can't figure out how to do that now. Perhaps later.

Pipeline, Pace Haldora, SpacePirate, thanks.

I am not at this point concerned any longer with making 'nova quality' ships. I am concerned with making ships that match what I see in my head when I read the dëscs. I wanted a carrier that is immediately recognisable as a carrier. (Although a flattop is probably not really required in space, I'm justifying it as to make it unneccecery for fast-moving fighters to fly directly back into thier bays at high rates of speed- there's gravity on the flattop so they can use friction as well as braking engines when they land to slow down before entering their bays (that was for my wife who questioned the need for such things).) And as much as I am attatched to the ships that I have been using all this time, they are not what I need (being from an unpublished EVO TC). They're scaled too small, they have no running lights or engine flares and they look too atmospheric. Therefore, since I am my coder, mďsner, writer and all that I figured that I should become my graphics man as well and teach myself 3d (even if it is Mechanisto- I won't use a pirated copy of Lightwave even if I could DL it on my 33.3 connection). Plus I would rather people see that I at least made an effort to have graphics that are as original as the plots are.
Anyway...

It just redirects me to the topic's page (it start by opening the web page in another window, and it immediately changes to the topic page )

Edit: just forget about it. It's on your TC's website, so it's ok. About the ship, I like it. The laser is too square in my opinion (should be more circular no?), and there's one part in the third section from the front (a small box-like thing) that is way to blue for anyone to be able to say what it is. Apart from that, I find the sides on the second section really truly well done and I like the design.

Is this some kind of bug in the webboard? I've noticed a few times before that a link in the body of a post (but not in the sig?) will link back to the original page!

The thing that is a small boxlike structure towards the back is an observation deck and the reason it is so reflected is because it is made of glass 🙂 and I know the lighting isn't great, but I am still quite the amatuer.

I see now. Hey, don't say you're an amateur: your ship is already pretty well done!

It's not the webboards, it's freewebs. If an image is linked without an html page, it will redirect the user to history(-1).

I'd suggest you make a quick html page, like below:

<html><body><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/rmx256/destroyer.jpg"></body></html>

As for the second ship, I really like that design. Again, the texturing needs a bit of work, and it was all done with primitives again, but this one looks well thought out, and it really flows together. Nice. A few things you need to do, though: put a lot of detail into the engine work. A ship's design can be as simple as the designer wants, but the underlying technology is always complex. In other words, please don't ruin that ship by botching the engines. 😛 Make sure your ship looks that good from every angle. Remember, there are 36 sprites, and each one needs to look as good as the one before it.)
