Silly sprites -- a screenshot contest?

Back around the time of Photoshop Fun IV I was thinking & writing about running a "silly sprite contest," and I think Steelix suggested I could run it after (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum26/HTML/016932.html")Fun V.(/url) I've got too much work and travel planned now, though, to start something as ambitious as a contest that involves all the contestants posting actual playable plug-ins.

We could have a contest that was more like Steelix's series, with the submissions being "proof of concept" screenshots, regardless of whether they were created in-game or faked with Photoshop. Judging would be by humor but screenshots deemed to not be technically plausible would be disqualified. The contest would need to be over within 3 weeks, since that's when my travels start.

We could do "Phase II," a contest for actual plugs, later (entries would perhaps be ships with custom RLEs, weapons, sounds, descs, etc.). Both previosly-unseen creations and developments of Phase I screenshot ideas would be eligible. If I was running the contest, though, it would have to be in mid-September or later -- until then I won't have another long stretch of days with both fast internet access and a computer of my own. After the contest, all entries could be combined into one big mad plug if the authors agreed.

Thoughts? We can work out the technical details for a plug competition later -- right now I mostly want to know if there is interest in the screenshot competition.

It's an interesting (and fun sounding) Idea indeed, but I don't know how many people you'll get to enter, as you can see, theres not much interest really.

I'd enter for sure, If I can get some spare time together. Just got to think of something funny to make.

Well, the last time I raised the idea of a silly sprite contest I got what seemed like fairly positive responses from orcaloverbri9, Cunjo, Jules, and Captain Bob, and more maybe-ish responses from what_is_the_matrix, Coraxus, and Zacha Pedro. That's just people who posted to my dedicated thread; I think some others posted to the Fun IV thread.

This time, not so much. Unlike last time, though, this time I primarily asked for comments on the idea of a screenshot competition, as opposed to one directly for plug-ins. Is that why I'm getting so little feedback this time? If I get two more prospective contestants I'll start the screenshot contest ASAP. Otherwise, I'll probably forego it for now and see about just doing the plug-in phase -- in September or October, unless someone else wants to run it sooner.

Thanks for the renewed model offer Redeemer -- if you can email it to me, that would be great! I've used your earlier graphics in a (silly) beta plug that I'm thinking of releasing via this thread, as a sort of reward to the few who are following it. I just gotta solve a little cron problem first....

Snapz Pro? Is the free demo crippled? Does it handle sound? Are there other usable movie-capture programs for Mac a/o PC?

If the cost of entry is less than Snapz Pro's $69 price, I'd say we may have a way to run an interesting contest here....

I bought ol'snapz pro II long time ago.
Dont think it was crippled unregistered.
But Snapz X i believe is. No idea for windows.

I'm trying out Snapz Pro X 2 right now. It runs, though I haven't quite found a way to get a watchable framerate out of a 600 MHz G3 iMac (yet -- still trying). Apparently, the first signs of crippling (watermarks) show up after 15 days.

my iMac is a 350 G3. I usualy record at 20 fps. and I dont have nova in a window.

I may have had a plug of what I have done so far up in my .mac account. When I was talking about makeing it in #ev3, yet I dont see a ToonBoom anywhere.
