Is Nova capable of using pre-rendered buttons?

I haven't seen it mentioned in the bible, and I doubt it; but I was wondering if this was possible. Mostly because I don't like the current limitations of the render-on-the-fly buttons.

Thanks.

I don't think so. The buttons in Nova change in size, like the +/- buttons, so it would be a major pain. Consider it a blessing, not a curse 🙂

I know how the buttons are normally made, and I've made several different styles actually. And yes I'm thankful for the time & effort draw-on-the-flying saves, but it also lacks the detail & control I'd like to have for a particular style I'm trying to create. But if Nova lacks the ability than there's no real harm done.

What you could do is draw in the buttons on the windows. For Caribbean, I don't have buttons, but I did replace the interface. This would mean there wouldn't be any darkening when you click on them, though. shrug

I've tried that before and I don't like how it looks...

Haven't tried this, but what would happen if you made the in-fill bit more than 1 pixel wide?
Does EVN reject the other pixels, or crash? If not, it could be a partial solution.

I'd be interested to know how you get on.

I just checked, and the repeating graphics for button middles are 2 X 25 pixels in both EVN and in the EVO port. If you have been using 1 X 25 graphics, well, then you've already proven that width is variable. 🙂

Having full sized buttons would be nice, but that doesn't fix my problem. I need individual graphics for each button due to the nature of the style I'm working on (would like to be able to work on). I need a detailed transition between the text and the actual button, and that just can't be accomplished by the current means.

All else fails, make your own font. 🙂

And then what? Would all players have to install the font in their operating systems, or is there a way to insert a custom font into a plug-in?

You ought to be able to insert it in the FOND template.

Is there someone around who has tried this?

sigh It's not just the font (although I would like to see if one can insert custom font). Perhaps pictures would aid me here. Here's an example I threw together:

I hope that clears up my problem.
