I've been hearing a lot about this 'EVONE' and I'd apericiate it if somebody would tell me what it is and where I could get it id its useful.

(url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/products/evone/")EVONE ( Escape Velocity Override Nova Editor)(/url) is a graphical editor for EV, EVO, and NOVA by (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/")Arios Software(/url). Some people like it, but personally I wouldn't use it. For a start, I hate its interface, and you have to pay for it despite only having one full graphical editor. If you like it then fair enough, but personally I would stick to (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/mc.php")Mission Computer(/url). It has a lot more editors, and is far nicer to work with.
There is of course Res-Edit with NOVATools, but I cant say I've ever used that

Thanks for that too Jules, I hope to be working with you on the project.
You might also want to take a look at ResEdit and Novatools, I personally find it to be best for plug-in editing, but its really a personal choice.

I've downloaded all of them, I'm basically just looking for a visual aid for placing planets and systems. And a simpler way to insert graphics.
For placing systems and planets, you want to use Mission Computer. I belive it is the only one that can do that right now, and it works well.
There isn't really an easier way to insert graphics. You have to either use pict based sprites, which are slow and somewhat unreliable, or the RleD an Rle8 formats. If you play around with it for a while, you will discover that it is not nearly as difficult as it seems at first.
ACtually EVONE does everything I hoped it would, unfortunetly its beta stage is making it nearly impossible to use. It crashes so much it makes me look at a PC fondly.
Make sure you try mission computer as well. Don't just settle on one editor because it is the first one you tried.
Send off an e-mail to AriosSoftware with the bugs.
Just about to, it crashes every time you close a weapons window.

How annoying. I would appreciate a bug report either at (url="http://"http://forums.ariossoftware.com")http://forums.ariossoftware.com(/url) or support@ariossoftware.com
Please include relevant system stats and a more detailed description.
Jules: I have told you more than once to let me know precisely what you don't like. In what way is the interface bad? As for the editors, it has 3 and soon to be 4 graphical editors. The new one will be the first and only frame-level RLE editor available on the Mac (no, rle sprites are not a Nova invention).

I cant put my finger on it really. Its just all a bit unintuitive and hard to use. It took me quite a while to figure out what to do! I don't know, its just not to my tastes I mean I can use EVONE fine, I just find the layout and functionality of Mission Computer a lot more sensible...

Hehe, ok. It is more flexible than the other editors in that it allows you to organize the resources in the plug as you want them, and all resources are displayed as icons like files in a folder. Other than that, it is pretty similar - to edit a resource you double-click it. It is also the only currently available editor that uses the more complex EV-Edit data files approach, so that may be another point of confusion.

Perhaps a little option that allows you to switch between a full blown main GUI for choosing the resources and a simple list option?

A new interface is under development that should address these concerns.
I personally love EVONE, and registered it. The star map is quite good as well. It hasn't crashed on me yet, and I'm on Panther. I personally recommend it, as I do all my plug work on it, from the two TC's I've been involved in to the numerous small plugs I have made.

how about a pc to mac .rez converter? isn't that what you need it for prime? is there a pc version of one available?

I can already use it for that, its just that if the bugs are worked out then it'll be much easyer than carving the Nova Bible in my head. I've worked with EV-Edit type editors before, I have a TC on my hard drive for EV that tales up around 23 gig's. I believe it would be the largest plug-in for EV ever posted if I ever bother to post it.
