Actually, I have everything plugin-wise under control right now; I've gotten about 10 requests to help on the plugin, and the only thing I want help on is the storyline (which is pretty much complete)
Quote
I can make systems.
EVONE has a Galaxy editor that is pretty easy to use... I think I can manage the systems pretty well, but thanks for the offer!
It's a great boost to see a bunch of you guys want to help... I'm still open for suggestions, so pour them out!
Yes, we do want it monstrously big. Go for about 300.(or a map, or graph, or whatever is needed to work with.)
I will not have 300 islands, because that would require 600 spďns of said islands, and each island takes about 2 days to complete. (you need the coast and the surrounding ocean as one, and then the deadly portion on top of it)
If, however, you mean 300 systems, then okay, fine, just that a few in the middle will be uninhabited.
------------------ This space left intentionally blank.
Don't know where you got the 300 island thing from. I was reffering to systems, as you said 50 systems in the post which I was quoting.
Hrm... More ideas... I have an idea for your cannons fireing multiple. If you take the oütf for said cannon, make it have the cannon, plus an invisible weapon that fires to the range of the cannons, then make the cannons do their splitting thing, it could work. If one were to change directions, though, you would get some really weird effects in your fireing.(your shot going sideways, for instnce)
------------------ I am ME hear me roar! Meeoowwwww
Hrm.. Came up with some ideas: First: make all the ships have realitivly high armor/sheild ratings. (when compared with Nova) Seconed: Make it so you can buy marines(way higher storming ability), seamen(slightly higher storming ability, and higher repair/speed/etc.), there should be many types of cannon(already suggested, just thought I'd repost it), buying cannon crews to increase cannon number carried, guns could be used for only cannons, turrets could be made for anything else(relabel?), there might be a way to link supplies to repairs; if so you could make a outfit for extra ship parts to aid repairs(or make them possible).
That is all my ideas for now, I double posted(rather than edit previous post) to bump.
Every now or then i check up on this, here are my current ideas.
1. You could have fore and aft cannons, that fired fowards and backwards 2. Side cannons (could become confusing after a while, all the cannons) 3. turreted cannons, shouldn't be that hard to explain. 4. Fighters could be rowboats, with small cannons or people throwing harpoons 5. Harpoon throwers, ungiuded missles (think raven rockets) 6. a few 'one way' hyperspace routes that simulate rapids or tidal currents. 7. Different cannon models to provide more weapon diversity 8. A few outfits that say something about hiring a new navigator or some such that act like sigma upgrades.
edit- 9. mythical sea dragons that you have a mission to destroy, or whales that you can 'disable' and then take their skin by stealing their cargo. Or something like that. /edit
thats it, hope it helps

I like the idea of only using gun slots. A possibility for turret slots would be masts. So, you could have square masts or triangular masts or whatever you could think of masts and they adjust top speed and turning rate and so on.
You could explain still having speed without a mast as people rowing ;).

Warships couldn't fire forwards. Amazing as it seems, there were no guns pointing forwards. Ships did usually have one or two cannon pointing astern. These 'stern chasers' were rarely used in battle. Also, warships didn't have turreted weapons. The cannon were mounted on carriages on either side of the ship and were very difficult to move from side to side. This was because cannon of this period were unrifled and extremely inaccurate so the optimum range for battle was "half a pistol shot" - about 50 metres. All this was because in battle the fleets would line up alongside each other and hammer away. There was no point in having forwards or rear facing cannon - they would never be used.

Okay, a LOT of suggestions have been said at least twice:
Canon will be turrets that have blind front and sides, thus enabling a side shooting weapon. Turrets will be relabled "Canon"
There will be some cool outfits to boost your crew... Pirate crews on Pirate ports, British crews on Brit ports, etc.
At wartime, enemy ports will become hostile, so if you are an American frigate captain, be sure to have some fun on the British coats
Now, no more suggestions, as I seem to have everything under control... if you must suggest something, mail me at (url="http://"mailto:mantaray5@earthlink.net")mailto:mantaray5@earthlink.net(/url)mantaray5@earthlink.net

unless your playing and TC for EVN of course.

Yes, the sails aren't in the movie, because I have them hidden whilst I experiment on how I'm going to make the sails turn. However, I think the other details worked out quite nice. You can't see the side, but there is a black and yellow "wood" texture there. It looks quite nice.
Weeeeeeeeee!
And don't complain about the wait. You know how long it took me to upload this thing on a dialup? we're talking almost 4 k/second. (on a supposedly 56 k modem) yeah.
All right, but where are the cannons?
Really though, very nice.(better than anything I can do at any rate) And all you have left to create is some 50 or so ships, that many islands, and then programming! Ah, the joys of plug making. I wish I could do graphics like that.
It's HUGE! Are all the ships that BIG?
------------------ Eww! Troll bogies! Let the fun begin!
Yes, that is quite large. Have you actually tested this in-game? In any case, this is coming along quite nicely. The quality is consistantly very good.

The reason that a 56k modem gives you <10 k per second download times is that it is 56 thousand bits per second, while the download/upload counter gives it in thousands of bytes per second. So, you should be hitting about 7 kBPS (8 bits per byte). 4 is just your system or modem being stupid.
I hope you're going to reduce the size of that, although it is true that seaworthy ships had relatively little size variation (a certain size necessary to cross an ocean, and then a maximum size beyond which it got impractical and you started hitting iceburgs ;)). However, I think reality can be disregarded for the sake of having bigger ships be better.
The size is twice the size it will appear in-game; I will be running LASIK on these ships, and therefore need big ships.
Twice that size is smaller than you think)
Of course, one ship will be that big in game <cryptic grin >

I think you mean "Half."

Half. Hrmph.
I was never good with fractions.
Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I was wondering what the status is on this TC. Is it still in the works, or has it been scrapped?

I recall that it has been put on hold for some reason. I forget why, but it was posted somewhere.
I think if a plug hasn't been mentioned for a year it's probably pretty much dead.

Ah, well yeah, you're probably right.
Though if someone knows where it was posted that this TC was put on hold/cancelled, it'd be greatly appreciated. Especially a link.

I so wanted to play this one...
But then, isn't every TC anticipated?
