If you don't have a 2-button mouse, can you still use Strata? I know it's supposed to be difficult with Wings.. I'm using a one-button optical.. I think if I was desperate, I could disconnect the two-button from the old computer and install two-button software, but my dad wouldn't be happy :frown:
Downloading Strata as she types!

Yeah, Strata doesnt need a 2-button mouse at all. Its purely designed for 1-button

Do you know if I could find an old version of Wings somewhere? Or do they all need Jaguar? I wouldn't mind using an old program version..
Yay, Strata is about to get installed
(url="http://"http://pub33.ezboard.com/fnendowingsmiraifrm20.showMessage?topicID=530.topic")This(/url) thread has some information about how to get it to run in OS10.1.5. However, it involves copmiling some source code, so you need a C++ compiler to run it. You may be able to find the compiled Erlang thing, though, but I haven't looked.
I did a bit of lite hacking, and got a download to version 0.97.01, which people in the thread above claim works in 10.1.5. However, from there comments, it WILL NOT work in Jaguar.
Get it (url="http://"http://osdn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/wings/wings-0.97.01-macosx.dmg")here(/url), and see if it works.
Good luck! SpacePirate

Blah, I'm in 10.1.3... I'll see what I can do.
Thanks for the help, all! If I make something recognizable, I'll post it..
Hrm. If I recall, 10.1.5 was a free update. Try running software update, or try (url="http://"http://www.it.utep.edu/wksupport/macsupport/macosx.html")this link(/url).

The tool to pay attention to in Bryce is the symmetrical lattice. You can import photoshop images into the terrain editor and create some intriguing shapes there. So if Bryce is all you have, it is still possible to make some interesting looking ships. That said, I ran out and got an external modeller as soon as I could...Wings looks like the program to watch these days.

Your welcome...
With strata the important thing is getting a handle on the more complicated ways of making shapes using Lathe and Extrude. Both of these are great, but take a few trial and error runs to get them working for you properly...

Wow, did this topic ever take off! So then, I've started using the free version of Stata and I'm getting the hang of it (lathe is great) but, I've been having a problem with it. When I re-open a project I have been working on any time I select an individual object the program crashes. If I select more than one object nothing goes wrong but as soon as I try to select a single object it will crash. I am finding this very annoying, has anyone else had this problem?

Never happened... what system are you using?
I'm running 8.6. It seems to do alright if I copy everything then paste it all into a new file each time. I guess I may have to do that.
If you can get a copy somehow, and your computer can handle it, I would seriously recomment upgrading to 9. Strata really needs that to run well.
Hey Jules, can you write us a ship-making tutorial? I read the Strata manual online, and I understand how the tools work, and I know practice makes perfect (and I know this is a run-on sentence), but I'm not getting the hang of it.. Just walk us through making a cargo shuttle or something so we have some idea of how to make ships.

Ewan, you're just going to have to make some Wings tutorials as well as your Strata tutorials -- I just can't get the hang of smoothing out the organic shapes.

Actually, I do have a copy of an install disc for OS 9 that a friend gave me but when I installed the new OS none of my programs would run. They all said they were missing files they needed to run. So I went back to 8.6.
Do you think it matters that the install disc is for one of those Titanium G4 Laptops? I've got a 400MHz G3 iMac.
(This message has been edited by Nibbs (edited 05-29-2003).)
That's correct -- if you have an Install Disk for a G4, it's not going to install properly on a G3 and vice versa.
It wont even install. It will check what computer you have and it wont install unless its a G4 TiBook.
I thought all 400MHz G3 iMacs had OS 9 anyway? The last of the orriginal (non clear case) iMacs had 9 as standard. My 400MHz G3 iMac at home came with 9...
I'm just 12 or 13, I forgot. Really. Which one is easiest to use and free/REALLY cheap? I have the free version of Strata something or other that was free from evula.com .
Edit: I'm pretty sure I'm 13. Don't think I'm dumb though. I'm very smart. Really, I am.
Edit: I'm 12. i'm sure now. Had to count it out though.
