Story Line Ideas Needed

Hello,

As some may know I've been working on a TC for nova for a few months now. I've got Ewan working on some kick ass graphics for it, and I've been doing all the coding and Storylines. But I've hit a road block... I need saome suggestions for plot conflicts and such for side storylines. I've got the main plot plotted (heh) but I still need to plan out all the side storys and such. Any suggestions would be nice, since I don't have very many ideas at present for the majority of the storylines becides the main one.

mmm, did I just repeat my self several times or what?

It might help if you told us the context of your TC. Who/what/where/when? If I suggested that you have a mission string about militarily eliminating a rebel faction and asassinating the leaders of the pirates, would that help? Or how about one devoted entirely to sabotageing enemy facilities and/or taking down spy networks? Or would those have no place in your TC?

You'll need some group of fanatics somewhere in the galaxy. What exactly they're fanatical about is kinda vague and unclear. But they want to recruit the player to do courier missions and such. Then, as the side string progresses, you start getting suspicious and think you're working for some bad guys. You think you may be delievering terrorist plans, bomb scematics, etc.

But then, right when you would be expected to betray them to the police, they come clean, and you find that they're just a peaceful resistance group attemping to free an enslaved/badly treated people. So at the end, you help free these people, they get they're own little planet somewhere, and you get booku mega discounts there. Plus, the BBS there will occasionally have extra, well paying missions. Like routing out remaining strongholds of their previous oppressors, or opening talks with existing governments, or shipping in supplies their new world is short on. Make this route give you a universal gov't rating boost if possible, not a lot, but enough to make you respected throughout the galaxy.

Or, you can betray them. But then you find out you screwed up and blabbed to the government/organization that is doing the above mentioned repression. The group is destroyed but the repressed people manage to escape in the chaos of the fighting, they still get their planet, but instead you can't land there and they're ships will attack you on sight.

Or, you can just quit working for them. In which case the people are freed, get their planet, but don't really care about you either way. You can land on their planet, but get no discounts or random extra missions.

Not sure if this can fit in at all with your galaxy, but I think it'd be a neat side string to include.

That's cool. I like that idea. Don't worry though, Jager. I don't intend to use it.

If you need help, just email or (post its up to you) the general universe and the main plotlines, and I'd be more than happy to give you a hand brainstorming...

And if you need a freebie, hows this: Join the Mob, except give it a cooler name. And along the way, you do everything from driving getaways, to contracted hits, to disbaling, gang warfare, and have chances to betray the Mob, save your hide with the police, and do other fun inter-class warfare as such.

Maybe even get a chance to become the Godfather...

Sephil is coming...

Oooh I like all those ideas! Fun fun fun! And remember that you will HAVE to have defence stations to disable on the resistance groups one so that evacuation transport ships can land to free the people at the end of the string. This could also be one of the high paying missions after the string is properly over. ie in the bar you get:

"(player name), our sources have found that the (evil oppressors) have a large number of our people help captive in (planet). The planet is defended by orbiting defence stations. Take them out so we can send in the troops and rescue the captives..."

My idea is to start working for a new independant shipyard πŸ˜› You start by just bringing supplies for them, but end up trying out new kick ass ships and sabotaging other shipyards (kinda like : "There are rumours of a new rival staring up. Infultrate their base and set bombs to destroy them."). The shipyard could be set up anyway by crons, but if you take up the mission, you get big discounts on their ships.. I think that would be cool πŸ˜„

I wish I could back up my ideas with my laptop. Different alien races have special abilities that make them better in certain things. Mayby one race are better at engineering. The result, is your beginning ship (and anyship there after ) always have at least one extra jump capability because your character is such a wiz. Or another make great fighter jocks. Result: all your ships are more manueverable.

etc,etc,etc.

But you are looking for story lines. This one is old and well used. Alien race is Xenophobic, so they send out probe ships instead of manned ships. Maybe a glitch developes and the Probes develope the same problem; They fire on anyone. Maybe those Probes are really strong. So, you have to get past those ships and get to the home world.

Is there such a thing as auto-dominate?
Anytime you jump into a system with these people's worlds, you are automatically treated as if you tried to Dominate their planet. Each planet would get progressively more difficult to take over as you got closer to the Homeworld where you may or may not have a mass battle. Maybe you find clues that make Diplomacy possible, and maybe you don't and you have to fight a big battle just to land.

What about an undefeatable enemy. They would be what the Borg were supposed to be; a force of nature. Maybe they are not the kill, kill, kill, Assimilate, Ex-TERMinATE, Ex-TERMinATE, Ex-TERMinATE, Ex-TERMinATE!!!

Maybe they're just a force of annoyance. They grab you and you are teleported somewhere random, usually at the edge of known space.

There's always infinite auxiliary ships and a really bad legal status.

This idea is impractical. Would you yourself want fight hundreds or thousands of ships? Would you like to fight hundreds of Voinian Cruisers just because you wanted to go to Voina to get Dospect Armor before the Paaren Station string?

I am eager to try to ansver mission questions

Impractical? Most definetly. But it'd sure be a great challenge! Unless of course, the most likely mission objective is just to land on the stellar in which case you just have to avoid being killed. Alternatively you could just put a ton of ships for mission ships and be forced to destroy them all before landing on the return destination planet which would be the one in question. Course, this all assumes that by "auto-dominate" you were implying massive amounts of defense fleets attacking as you entered.

The idea is that you in effect have to stop a plague. If this was run like the Polycon game, then it would probably the last group of missions. As time passes in the game, these drone ships are more prevelent in the game "universe". You wouldn't be going to a place to boost your armor for some other mission, you would be going to find a way to stop these drones.

By this time in the game the character would have built up his or her ship and possibly escorts to take on Planetary Defense Forces.

Dominating Systems is a topic I have seen around here at least twice. "Who has dominated all the planets" If it's that easy for some people, why not make a story line for it?

Your job is to Kick Booty at several planets to complete the mission. Maybe the task is to do this 4 times and you find clues that allow you to disable the final big fleet. Maybe you skip that final planet so you can have the big battle.

But Jager hasn't responded on this so the idea is in the can anyway. πŸ˜„
