Okay... I have been out of the loop since '98 on doing plugins. I used to use Ev-Edit and resedit for my plugins. Is there any newer/better tools to use to do plugins nowadays that may make things easier than it used to be? Any information appreciated. I just don't understand why ambrosia didn't make a small editing program for the ev games then sell it for about $20 or $30.. At least that way we know there would be no problems with the plugins other than ID-10-T errors...
Based on past experience and enjoyment of Ev and EVO I am ordering Nova after I post this....

There is an upcoming EV/O/N editor, called EVONE, soon to be available (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com")here(/url). You could also try David Arthur's MissionComputer 2.0 when it comes out soon.
EVONE will cost $10, and MissionComputer is free, but doesn't edit everything.
And don't forget ye olde standarde ResEdit (avec (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net")NovaTools(/url) for your Nova editing pleasure.).

MissionComputer 1.4.0 edits a number of resources for Escape Velocity and EV Override, and is available from the link EVula gave. MissionComputer 2.0 is on its way, adding support for EV Nova; a progress update is available (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=778")here(/url), and there are some older screenshots (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=581")here(/url).

The last I heard, EVONE doesn't edit everything yet either.

Not yet, though it will. It currently edits Sytems, the Galaxy, and Space Objects. Then there are your basic descs, strings, &c.;

As SpacePirate says, it most definitely does.
The current editors are: STR STR# desc spin syst (Completely graphical) The Galaxy (A graphical map representation)
Coming very soon: misn (halfway done) spob
Since the main architecture was written first, an editor is fully functional (not including any bugs) the second it is complete.

And of course there is NovaLord, being developed during my summer break from university. It's only early days yet, but the application itself is fully working. Unlike BOTH MissionComputer and EVONE, NovaLord edits nothing so far. : )
Also unlike both the other major editors, NovaLord will only edit EVN plugins, although there is no reason why it can't be extended backwards in time. It is also Mac OSX only (10.1 and later).
It will allow editing of any resource in EVN except the interface and colour resources, which will be edited by an included application called NovaFace. NovaLord will have Expert mode for those who just want to type numbers (like in ResEdit) and a Simple mode which will do all it can to reduce editing time.
Also NovaLord will use an idea that I shamelessly stole from Anvil, Bungie Software's Marathon 2/Infinity physics editor. Each editor will have an "Easy Edit" tab which contains the most often modified fields (such as speed, accel, weapons etc for ships) for those just making a quick hack, for example making the Kestrel cost 5 credits.
Development is quick, and I will be starting on the editors next week.
Oh yeah. And it will be free. ConscienceWare, in fact, and no annoying dialogs.
cue to rejoice
Cheers!

Well... so much information... thanks to all... so now I just have to try each editor and determine which will be best suited for my limited abilities...
