In my humble opinion, no Escape Velocity Override game should be without the most spectacular total graphics conversion plug-in ever, Magma. This is what Escape Velocity Override should have looked like. The current graphics for Nova look amazing already, but I am just wondering if anyone has heard if Meowx Design Studios is planning to create a Magma plug-in for Escape Velocity Nova.

This idea has been mentioned on this board before. It was pointed out that Meowx would have a difficult time improving on the dev teams work, as you mentioned. I don't believe we've ever seen anything from Meowx on any plans for something like that, it's probably a bit early to be thinking about a graphics conversion plug anyway. I believe that David from Meowx hangs out mostly on the dev board, so I'd look there for any announcements.
And not to belittle Meowx's abilities at all, but I've played with the EV MAGMA, and didn't think it was really that great. They did a good job with the sounds and graphics, don't get me wrong, they just aren't my type. The weapon graphics were too dark, and while I thought the ship graphics were better tahn original, I've always prefered top down to three quarters. But this is all just IMHO and is pretty definitely a minority opinion, I think. Again, I'm not saying it was bad, just not my type.
------------------ So go on the internet game sites and bash all the PC users!
Personally, I greatly prefer the graphical style of Nova to that of MAGMA. The plugin's graphics just seem too complex, too dark, and not visually pleasing enough. I also don't believe Meowx Design has any plans at the moment to try to take on the gargantuan task of trying to out-do ATMOS on the graphics front.

Well, we would certainly like to think so...

Anything is possible, but I wouldn't count on it. Nova graphics own. Totally.
I do think it would be tough to improve on Nova's default graphics (though if anyone can, Meowx can). The other thing is that Nova doesn't really NEED something like MAGMA as much as the first two games did.

I would like to reply to those who do not prefer Magma-
At first I thought as you did, but eventually Magma really grew on me kind of in the same way that I only begin to enjoy and appreciate a song if I listen to it more than once.
Btw, I prefer the three quarters view because it makes the game seem less flat, and offers a chance to show of more of a ship and give a better idea what it looks like. I remember being completely amazed by sprites in the first Star Wars EV plug-in, though they took some getting used to.

Seeing as it's a derivative work based on ATMOS/Matt/Ambrosia intellectual property, I'm not sure your cryptic smirk is really copyrightable.

Well, from what I see, Nova needs a MAGMA plugin like it needs a hole in the head. I really don't think meowx is capable of equalling the work done by ATMOS, let alone surpassing it.

Of course there is the argument that Nova graphics are lacking in realistic details, noteably the "Australian for Shuttlecraft" Federation ship, but to improve on that front, you first have to surpass the amazing form, feeling, and overall quality of the Nova graphics, which would be almost impossible.
I think that I might (note: might ) be able to challenge those ATMOS artists...but ship graphical replacement ain't my bag of chips. I'd rather be original.

bleh...bite me. Put that in your lawsuit and smoke it.
Well, my entire thought of EVN:MAGMA is summed up in one statement I made a while ago... the only EVN:MAGMA statement I've ever made, really: "Looks great so far! I'll have one hell of a doing an EV3:MAGMA! ;)" (or something to that effect) I personally think that by the time of its release, I would be able to surpass EVN's graphics (based on their current quality). However, it's more of a question of "Does EVN NEED a MAGMA?" to which the answer will most likely be "No." MAGMA was originally created to supply EVO users with a 3/4 angled view of the game - the kick-ass ships were a bonus, really... EVN already has that. Not to mention all the bloody TIME it would take to render all the sprites needed for an EVN:MAGMA. I'll say this: It's a possibility, but don't really count on it. Now, if I ever get Project Triggerfinger (aka MAGMA-N, I'll let you guess what that stands for) off the ground , that's a different story... but that's a big if.... -david-
