Well, I will say the krait and helians are pretty terrible ships, but the Turncoat is downright awesome, and with upgrades is a formidable vessel. I like it. 🙂

You've got that right...I want another screenshot! That first one was cool enough, and I'm dying to see another one!

As for GameRanger, I've had it for about five / six months. I used to be known there as an expert in Ares, (my screen name was "Ares Sniper") but I haven't been on GameRanger in a very long time. When this plug comes out, however, that will probably change. 🙂

Gameranger comes standard with Ares. It looks as though I have been beaten in the field of making a multiplayer EVO. I would like to know more about the plug though. Keep posting Madfax7.

  1. I'm in the process of putting up some screen shots
  2. I haven't renderd any of the Strand Ships yet, but I'll do a test of some Crescent ship and post it with the screenshots

oh, are you sure you really want the strands? It means the plugin well jump from 3+ megs to about 10+ megs... Gimme your thoughts on that one, they'll decide if the strands are in or out of the plugin. It also means another 2-3 months of development.

I'm sure people won't mind the large download at all as long as they see all of the incredible features of this plug...Sure, go for making the Strand ships. Or you could make two plugs, one having just the three races you have now, and the other having three three races with strand races as well. That way, people have a choice between a small and large download.

I already know there are going to be 2 versions, I don't want 4 floating around. its either with, or without them.

Large downloads are nothing, on my 56k I've downloaded the Coldstone beta (80Mb) as well as countless other AIFF's, TIFF's, and one four hour long MP3. 🙂

Not right now. Before I can even think about betas, I have to input the Strands' Base ships, their graphics and get the current ships/weapons' stats right.

P.S. I'll be posting more screen shots when I have the first crescent strand in place.

Madfax, I am stunned. I hope you need a few Beta testers, cause I want to be one. Though I have a question. What does AO stand for? An abbreviation of the plug name? Hmmmmm?

That plug is gonna be great. Now I can finally settle the score as to who was the better pilot between my brother and I . . . heh . . .

I don't know if this is gonna be a problem but I think that the correct scaling (more like in Ares) was a good thing, it always bugged me how your fighters were nearly as big as the ship launching them, however I then realise that this would require some game play tweaking, as either fighers would be 3 pixel dots, or cruisers would be huge behemoths taking up 1/4 the screen and would require 5 times the number of turrets to defend them. Oh well, it looks like you have good scaling right now so don't worry about it.

I think I've achieved the perfect balance between realism and playabilty. If the big ships were anymore to scale, you'd have to run ares in AT LEAST 800x600. If they were any less to scale, it wouldn't look right. Although I can always make small adjustments to sprite sizes (e.g. 8-64 pixels bigger or smaller)

Personally, I don't really think people will notice if a ship is 1 pixel bigger than it should be. Don't be kicking yourself for that! If it's more to scale than EVO, it's an improvement! 🙂

Keep it up! And, if you can, give regular updates/new screen shots. I'm for some reason anxious to see the Crescent Fighter.

Ok. Once again, it's looking great, and I'm glad to finally hear what the plug is going to be called. 🙂 Can't wait to see more screenshots...I've looked at them all three/four times.

P.S. Do you mind if I post a link to your screenshots on the Ares board? Or maybe you could do so? It would be a good idea to get your plug popular before it's released...
