I am interested in making custom landscapes for landing pictures. How is this generally done?
Thanks.
This is generally done with a landscape creator program that costs more than I make in a year (which isn't that much, considering I don't have a job). You may want to ckeck out Bryce or something similar.

Can you import Specular files into a landscape?

No, not in Bryce.
That depends... Bryce can't import "Specular" format, but it can import some generic types ... see what formats Specular can export to. In revising ship graphics for Secession 1.5, I exported from StrataVision in DXF format so that I could import them into Bryce. It didn't work perfectly, but it worked well enough for my purposes. Give it a shot.
