HEY there all I was just wondering about two different fire power. It might have been talked about before or not i Dont know But... What is the difference between the Plasma and the Voinian Neutron Fire Power? BOOMING!
------------------
Plasma Siphon you means? Well, Voinian Neutron Fire Power takes care of Crescent ships quickly while the plasma siphon keeps off the Azdaras. I suggest going with Neutron Fire Power.
I found my neutron guns sure wiped out both crescent fighters and azdaras too if they hit them. If you have enough turrets and cannons they are damn hard to avoid with the high inaccuracy the guns have.
I actually wish I could sell my plasma siphon. I hate scrolling though too many secondary weapons, even if it does add fuel regen.

I've wacked fleets of Creasant ships with a voinian heavy fighter. It is fast enough to escape most ships and powerfull enough to blast the fighters that get too close.
I can't stand the plazma siphon. it is so loud that it drowns out all other sound and it also seems to slow the game down. it does not add fuel regen it drains fuel, albeit at a very slow rate.

Aha! Plasma siphon users sighted!
Since I haven't done all strings, I actually haven't gotten this weapon while playing in the Nova port. If any of you have gotten it in the port, and haven't had it vanish the next time you visited an outfitter, I'd like to know: what is in your plugins folder? Do you use my "disappearing outfs fix"? Do you have any other (non-CFN) plugs in there? (And also: PC or Mac?)
I've got a note on my web site that says that the plasma siphon might continue to misbehave or play hooky even if my outfits fix is in use, but I'm not sure if the note is correct -- I haven't actually play-tested the required string myself.

I like it, just because it reminds me of a flamethower.

Hehe, love the plasma siphon! And actually I was always rather disappointed by the fact that use of the flamethrower is not so much encouraged in Marathon :frown:. It certainly has the most attitude of any weapon, I'd say. But that's not really why I like the PS - that would be because it's pretty much all you need in the way of weaponry! Provided, of course, that you have it installed on a nice Igazra, you can take out pretty much anything you need to without any primaries.. good fun :).
I used your fix Dr. Trowel, and none of my other goodies disappeared. The big problem was I never got the plasma siphon in the first place with te windows port. I know I mentioned this to you, and I think I addressed it in that fix, but I'm at work at the moment...
Since the control bit that gave it to you appeared to be awol, that could lead folks to believe your fix isn't doing the job instead, no?

I would like it too if weren't for the sound that drowns out everything else.

Oh yeah. I forgot that. Jeez, I even mentioned it in the section of my E.S.W.P. devoted to your plug ("This plug also fixes one other bug, to make sure that you are properly rewarded for a particular Igadzra mission."). I self-bonk.
I'd still like clear confirmation from third parties that using our two plugs together does result in properly functioning plasma siphons, though.

I've tested this, and it does work properly. There is however one funny little glitch that arises from the outfit fix. For the four missions that grant special tech items on accepting the mission (UE Cloak, UE Marines, Needle Jammer, Exp. shield generator), because the port wasn't translated properly the player can actually accept>abort (rinse, repeat) those missions and be granted unlimited copies of those items. Nice little glitch for the cheaters out there...
Yet another confirmed bug of the EVO port to correct... here we just have to DXXX at failure and abort.

There is a cool bug in the Quantimire Trillogy like that, If you buy a high-D laser,as many of the Low-D and medium-D lasers apear. you can sell them for lots of money, leave the outfitters, return, and they will be back to allow you to get more money. Buy and nice argosy, and you're off.
slaps forehead
I suppose that means they are all in the on accept field, and since evo seems a little sparse on failure bits, you get to try try again. I just blithely copied the way it was done it other missions of that type when I changed the Igadzra mission. Since I doubt this was intended, consider a fix on the way.

Thanks for the test! I guess I can delete a line from my site the next time I update it.
As to the special tech on misn acceptance issue, I just checked the original EVO's Override Data 1 file with MissionComputer -- misn ID 319 (Test New Shield Generator) does have 'remove outfit on abort" checked off. However, misn ID 201 (Capture Gualon station), which grants the marines, does not have it checked. I think this means that you could do the 'rinse and repeat' to get hordes of marines in the original game, as in the port (can anyone confirm via EVO playtest?). I'll guess that Soviet mikee's reaction is going to be that this therefore does not count as a bug in the port, and should not be fixed in the "official" port. (I don't have time to check the other outfit-granting missions right now.)
(Edit: misn 243 (grants NPD) and 183 (grants cloak) both are marked to remove the outfits upon abort, so it is only the marine unit that can be gotten repeatedly in the original EVO game.)
(Edit again: I noticed that the needle jammer was in slouch's list of granted outfits, but not in mine.... This outfit is removed properly on abort in the original game, but isn't granted at all (except via purchase) in the port. Instead, the port misn that should grant it nonsensically clears your legal record with the "Psycho Voinians," govt 142 -- and 142 happens to be the ID # for the needle jammer.)
(More editing: Dsatt, your fix grants the plasma siphon at the end of misn 365, which matches the original EVO files. Did you think you needed to change that? I don't think you do.)
This leads me to this question for the unofficial port-fixers: do we leave this sort of "easter egg" bug intact, or do we want to go beyond reproducing EVO 1.0.2 to try to create what 1.0.3 would have been, by making educated and restrained guesses as to what the designers intended? If we did that, we could fix some desc typos as well, and maybe incorporate the "Strange Asteroid" plug. But what we did would be a smidgen less "authentic".... Maybe we should try to keep the two goals (reproduction and improvement) separate?

You raise an interesting issue, Dr. Trowel. Should we correct what we think as being bugs? For the repeated marine outfit bug, I think we should correct that, 'cause it has only been added in the 1.0.2, therefore may have not been noticed, as the "marine" modtype and type of outfit has only been added in EVO 1.0.2, to my knowledge (and actually we don't get to keep the marines, just their "equipment", we are being told). For the strange asteroid, we have documented word of the author that it should be replaced, so it should be. For the typos, we should leave them in place. I would also like to make starting missions set "you can't make both storylines" mission bits at mission start so as to prevent making both the UE and Voinian storylines, and both the Igadzra and Zidagar ones. If someones want to cheat, they can download some triple-agent plugs. Anyway, it's what I think.
Nice catch, Doc! I keep getting confused going between 3 sets of Override data that I'm looking at. (The original, the port, and my own "fixed" version). I better be more careful in the future...
Thanks, slouch!
