The Emalghans were rather impressed with the Golan Mk. IIIs success. Theyd hauled in large slabs of unrefined better and divided it into halves. Next, they shot one half with the Liquidators and then a salvo of Emalghan turrets. The other one they just hammed at with Emalghan turrets. Much to their delight (but not surprise), they found that it took the metal that had been hit by the Liquidators only one eighth the time that the other metal took to turn to space dust. As a matter of fact, the Liquidators impressed them so much, they decided that another ship was needed. It was to be more mobile so that if they ever needed offense, they could have firepower at their disposal. Too, the councilor on Mira in Mirava had sent word that the Miranu might be willing to help the Emalghans construct more powerful shields - though in reality, that aid was unlikely as it was being filtered through the mouth of an overeager diplomat The same official had mentioned the possibility of Miranu help with the manufacturing of more powerful engines.
Thus it was that a commission was set up to design something. It was going to be designated the Emalghan Battleship. While the name Battleship tended to conjure the image of huge lumbering hulks that could hardly even move, the design team had decided that they wanted their Battleship to be anything but a ship that was so huge that even a drunken Voinian Cruiser pilot could hit it. Thus, they entirely scrapped the base shape of the Emalghan Warship. While it was a useful design, it simply had too much mass (mainly from the fact that the Warship itself was based on a Freighter - and Freighters were definitely not meant to be fast). Whereas the Emalghan Freighter and all of its deritives had only one definite section, the Battleship had three distinct segments. The lightly armoured and lightly armed Command section, which was in the middle. Behind the Command section was the Engine section which was rather heavily armoured. Finally, acting as a spearhead (and looking like one too) was the Weapons section. The Emalghans opted for mainly primary weapons so as to conserve space. In the arament, they included 3 Liquidators, 3 Emalghan Turrets, and 2 Point Defence Batteries. Since the Battleship didnt carry any Rockets or Fighters, there was plenty of room for the ship to carry all these batteries and turrets.
Emalghan Battleship: Shields: 700 (could be more if the Miranu decide to help) Armour: 1000 Speed: 150 Acceleration: 275 Turning: 75 Weapons: 3 Liquidators, 3 Emalghan Turrets, and 2 Point Defence Batteries Mass: 175 tons Length: 80m

The worlds of DSN-1469 (now known as Farth) and Grenits boasted thriving populations. Since Farth was so close to the Miranu border, it now boasted a rather large Miranu population. Too, the Miranu were immigrating to the Emalghan systems (especially Emalghion). They were eager to trade new wares with a new race. The Emalghan were in no shape to stop them; no Customs Officer could stop a Miranu trader bent on getting new trinkets. Too, the Emalghans were eager to have an economic alliance, and they wanted their economy to grow even more.

Voinian Empire 27 December 2002 The new engine installation on Voinian vessels completed not terribly long ago. Word of the latest development reached the Council and Emperor with great interest. They were to report to the usual testing site for new technology for the demonstration. ------ Voinian R &D; 27 December 2002 The new weapon needed a little more time so a delay message was sent to all nessisary branches. ------ Svass 27 December 2002 The Miranu Embassy running on the station was busy studying up on Voinian culture, getting used to certain changes... A Voinian representitive enters and asks to speak with the Miranu ambassador on a matter of importance. The two meet in an office and exchange words for a few minutes. They come to an agreement that the Miranu would trade their standard sensor array for a supply ship's worth of dospect armor. ------ Kirrim 27 December 2002 At this stage of the journey to Zachit the Emalgha escorts were released so the convoy could head straight to zachit without further delay. ------ Zachit 28 December 2002 The Voinian convoy arrives and waits for it's place in dock. United Earth High orbit over Paaren; location of Paaren Station
Finally, after thousands of man hours and enormous quantities of energy , resources and money, the station that had been abandoned by the United Earth long ago now stood completed, a proud spectacle of the glory of humanity, and an impenetrable barrier for any who might attempt to assault the second capital of Paaren. Light caught from the bright star of Valos glimmered off the shining silver station, two saucers, both with a diameter of eighteen hundred metres, connected by glimmering walkways. In the centre, nestled between the two saucers, was a sphere, almost entirely unmarked and fixed to the rest of the station in a web of supports that looked like glimmering gossamer threads. It was the most aesthetically conscious orbital station the United Earth had ever had the opportunity to construct, putting Outpost Alpha to shame, but Paaren Station was by no means a civilian station. Along the rims of the two saucers were fusion bolt turrets - fitted only very recently - with fourteen around each. Hunter missile launchers were enclosed within the station, hidden away, and numbered two dozen in total, with almost countless missiles available. Paaren Station was a fortress, a shipyard, and a symbol.
Patrolling round it in closely monitored orbits were three ships the likes of which had never before been seen. Larger than a carrier and sleeker, the three ships made their patrol with deadly grace, five fighters arranged around each vessel. They were the United Earth cruisers, recently developed by humanitys most esteemed ship designer, Anna Balashova, and the first of their kind -t he Redemption , the Peacemaker and the Sleipnir , soon to be assigned to the U.E. frontier, and captained by admirals of the frontier.
Within the spherical complex of Paaren Station, beyond three sheathes of armour and an extensive inner shield grid, three men reclined in their chairs in a small, cold room accessible by only one door - a six-inch blast door that could withstand everything short of starcraft armament. The room was the main council-of-war chamber on the station, and lay at the very heart, behind every defensive measure tangible or not so.
With cruisers already being constructed, a white-haired man in the proud red, gold and white uniform of a U.E. admiral said, and the Voinians seemingly seeking peace with us, it strikes me that this would be a good time for an offensive against them. With our frontiers well defended, I suggest we amass forces in DSN-1810, beyond their sensor range, and then make an attack on Avann, eliminating their fleet and capturing the station.
An excellent plan, commended one of the other men, a bird-like figure wearing a blue suit and with the emblem of the United Earth Confederacy on the right breast. However, would it not be more strategically sound to wait until we have a number of cruisers on the field - say, twenty? We still only have one shipyard capable of constructing vessels, after all.
We cannot afford to wait too long before we attack, the admiral replied patiently. If we attack within the next three weeks, by the time the Voinians are able to prepare for a counter-attack we shall have a sizeable number of cruisers, and be able to crush it easily.
Excuse me, the third man interrupted, but should we not consider here that the Voinians have openly requested peace? It would be dishonourable to make an attack on them while they have their pants down, so to speak.
The admiral laughed. They hardly have their pants down. Their border forces are even more considerable than usual. Id say their request for peace was merely an attempt to make their own sneak attack against us. We dont have long, I expect, until they make a massive attack on us, pouring every last ship they have into our frontiers - and perhaps even Sol. As I said, we cannot afford to wait.
Im afraid... the man in the suit said, ...that we will have to wait. Our research and development team has informed us that the Star Furnaces will be completed and outfitted onto every U.E. military ship within two weeks from now, and numerous other projects have already begun. Fusion bolt weaponry is as standard on our ships now, but within a month, our navy will be a much more dangerous force. The Congress has already spoken in unison: we are to strengthen our defences for the next month while our science teams continue their outstanding progress. Only when our fleets have the edge over the Voinians would it be reasonable to even consider attacking them.
The admiral sighed and shook his head. I say the Congress is making a great mistake here.
Its been decided. Now, youre being relocated to Outpost Alpha effective immediately. Were moving as much of the core fleets as we can to the frontier. With the renegade threat all but quelled, were also moving fleets out of Thoso and Talii.
What of the alien ships reported in the Huan system?questioned the third man lightly.
The Riders of Midgard and Star Dragoons are well equipped to deal with them, I assure you. They have as of yet not entered the system: we are unsure as to why this is. However, we have a sizeable garrison in Hatuli, and possibly militia back-up as well soon.
I see, he mused. In all black, and the only one of the three to show no signs of aging, the third man was quite tangibly different from the other two. Having grown up on a backwater colony on Molos, one of the original colonies founded by humanity, his genetic coding was slightly removed from the two Earth-born humans. Atmospheric conditions and genetic differentiation gave him violet eyes and raven black hair that the light sometimes showed as deepest blue, along with a narrower face and slightly smaller build. His subspecies was commonly known as the Molos elves, one of many minorities spread across the Confederacy. With permission, Id like to take a force of marines to Hatuli, to secure the planets from the renegades and bring them under Confederate jurisdiction.
Ill run it by the central government. I doubt theyll have a problem with it - theyve been itching for the planets natural resources and industry for decades. Now, unless either of you have any problems with it, I need to be getting on with some political matters - trade laws and taxes for the station, and the like. Admiral Samson, General Carlayan, you are both dismissed.
Telnan
Deep in the hostile mountains that covered all of Telnan, far away from the main colonies, two fighters rose out of one ordinary-seeming mountain, circling around it twice before streaking out away from the surface, into the higher orbit of Telnan and then into deep space in less than half a minute. The much larger shape of a destroyer shadowed the wildly uneven surface below it, rising at a steady pace with plumes of ionic particles trailing in its wake. Military ships had been leaving the hidden complex deep within one of the thousands of mountains on Telnan for the last two hours, in small groups so as not to unnecessarily alert the planets civilian population that what was occuring was, in fact, the complete evac. of all military ships from the system. It was something that very rarely happened, in the case of pirate raiders or any sort of uprising on the planet, but with the increasing threat of the Voinians, it was deemed necessary.
Deep within the mountains, two huge blast doors slid open, perfectly hidden with the natural terrain. When they slammed into position, a clean-cut cavern was visible, like a horizontal well in the mountainside, sinking back into complete darkness. And then, lights glared outwards, the roar of engines powering up was heard, and a second destroyer appeared, hovering out of secret hangar and then activating its main engines and cutting its way through the air, away from Telnan.
Down on the surface, deep inside the mountain, was the main U.E. military base staged in Telnan, supporting the fleet Atlas Sword , which was making its way in small groups to the frontier system of Yandros on patrol duty. Being a core world fleet, Atlas Sword took regular shifts with the fleets of either frontier for the more pressing duties, but this was the first time in years that the fleet had been called to the frontier outside of the regular switching.
Does this mean were finally going to destroy the Voinians? asked a bright-eyed, tender-faced lieutenant who should probably not even have been accepted into the military, never mind become an officer.
The captain in command of the Atlas Sword sighed and rolled his eves heavenward. This was not the first such question he had been asked by his ships crew, but it was first from a ranking officer. As Ive said a hundred bloody times, my orders were to pull out and move to Yandros! That is all I know! If you want to live our your fantasies of victory, walk out the goddamn door and find a VR facility -- this is reality, and I will not tolerate this nonsense, he spat, turning on the lieutenant. He had had quite enough of this. Leaving Telnan for an unknown amount of time... leaving his home and his family, and quite possibly not returning for months if the Confederacy truly did intend to attack the Voinians head-on, it was not something he or anyone was really happy about. Those damn Confederate officials just dont realise what theyre doing to their own friggin people. They dont give a damn, he flared inside his head.
The lieutenant was shaking noticeably, and had not said anything. Hardly military material - he was only twenty four, and either wasnt quite used to the military or wasnt quite right in the head. Cant trust anybody who is a day under sixty these days. The captain was himself ninety four, and thanks to advancements in medical technology, slowly the effects of time, he was still in his prime.
Oh, calm down! Peace! You wont get anywhere if you take offence that easily, the captain growled. His tone was only marginally less hostile than before, and it was an effort. Months away from my family... and its only four months until Sara will give us a child. I swear, if I miss it... What ship do you have duty on?
The Achilles , sir, the lieutenant replied shakily, trying to steady himself. Goddamn, why do people act like this around me? Its bloody annoying, thats what it is. Were due to set off in two hours.
Achilles , eh? Mind yer heel, the captain said. Noting the lieutenants confused glance at his feet, the captain threw his hands in the air. Bloody kids know nothing about history, do they? Youd better get yerself ready to take off, lieutenant.
Yes, sir, the lieutenant responded, relief showing on his face with the obvious dismissal. With a unnecessarily sharp salute, he turned and half walked, half ran across the huge open chamber towards where the Achilles was docked, one of three remaining destroyers. Screw the Voinians. Screw the U.E. If Im not back in four months... it can all go to Hell. Bloody military. Bloody kids. Seething, the captain walked off to get to his own ship, due to set off ten minutes ago.
Deep space in Bakka
Bakka had been an important military staging point and defensive frontier since the beginning of the war with the Voinians. Based at Outpost Alpha, its numerous fleets had made countless raids across the border into Avann and Vorik, and fought innumerable skirmishes in DSN-9418, Pokoren and Dogovor. Outpost Alpha had a reputation for being home to the best of the best in the Confederacys military, captains who had fought one too many battles and lost one too many men, yet still continued in their service for whatever reason. Being the most active frontier system, Bakka was a place where all the despair, hatred and fear felt for the Voinians existed in its purest and most intense form.
Outpost Alphas standing fleet had, over the last month, been significantly bolstered by forces across U.E. space. All craft constructed lately had been sent to either Bakka, Yandros or DSN-1810, and defence fleets from core systems such as Liat, Mestor, Talii, Tulir and Ariane had been spread out among the frontier worlds. Outlying fleets from Aludra, Saalia, Molos and Thoso were also beginning to arrive in Bakka, and according to a communique recently received, the U.E.S. Redemption , one of the new United Earth cruisers, was en route to Bakka with a significant escort fleet to take command of the forces there.
Overall, the activity in Bakka was clearing reminiscent of an invasion, especially as similar forces were gathering across the United Earth border. Such fleets had not been seen in Bakka for a year and a half, since the mutually devastating Fifth Battle of Pokoren in which both the U.E. and the Voinians had hobbled to their respective outposts in Bakka and Vorik.
Alkad, just how many squadrons are staged here? the captain of the Sons of Mars squadron asked, gazing with masked wonder at the vast number of military ships present in the system, either on patrol or waiting to dock at Outpost Alpha.
Sir, there are... Ensign Alkad quickly examined the sensor readings, making mental calculations. Eighteen at the moment. Two more will be arriving shortly, and I believe thats it, Captain.
The nondescript, Earth-born captain, who was in considerable need of a shave, made a noncommital grunt. Twenty squadrons in total. Not to mention three admirals already in Outpost Alpha and a fourth coming. It looks to me like were finally making a move. Alkad, make a link to Alphas military datanets. Have a look at the defences in Avann, if you would.
Alkad nodded shortly and quickly set to work. While strictly only navy captains had authorisation to access such databases, Captain Rogan of the Sons of Mars had long ago had Alkad learn all the necessary security codes. It was his opinion that, in the midst of a battle, having only one person in the fleet with full access could be quite disadvantageous to the overall performance. Of course, if his superiors ever found out that he had told those security codes to others - well, two others, Alkad and Danelle - he would quite assuredly be court marshalled. Then again, if they were going to court marshall Rogan for anything, it might as well be for having unauthorised relations with a member of his fleet - that being Danelle - or countless other things that Rogan could probably be dishonourably discharged or even shot for.
Quite considerable, Alkad stated after a moment, not shifting his head from the control panel at which he worked. Twenty squadrons would devour it, but they are definately more ships on the Voinian border than usual.
And Ill bet you a megacredit they have ships one jump out just waiting for sensors in Avann to pick up movement of our fleet. Seems to me that either them or us have done something to provoke an attack - doesnt look to me like this fleet movement the Confederacy has ordered is entirely a pre-emptive one, Rogan mused to himself aloud. Alkad, could you find the records of the admiral wholl be commanding us?
Without responding, Alkad pressed a myriad of keys at the console rapidly, bringing up the files of the admiral on the main screen.
Rogan tilted his head, examining the image displayed. Admiral Jonathan Samson of the Sol Core Defence. A Scud admiral, it appears. Why is a Scud commanding a frontier fleet?
Apparently for outstanding military service.
A Scud? Rogan asked incredulously. Outstanding military service for one of them is not seeing any Voinians in Sol. Bloody useless division.
Ah... interjected the ships tactical officer mildly. I do believe that the outstanding military service was due to a showdown in Dogovor a couple of years back - apparently he chased a considerable Voinian fleet out of Eltor, despite being outnumbered, and tore them to shreds in Dogovor. They say Samson is one of the best at commanding ships on the line.
Id rather have McPherson leading the fleet, Rogan muttered. Cant trust core world admirals - dont know enough about how the Voinians think. He tapped his temple for emphasis. Pah. Dont know whats with the military half the time. First they drag all the ships into service to modify every blaze weapon on the field so it can fire these glorified fusion bolts, and then they send everyone to the frontier to cramp our style. These core world squadrons have probably never seen a battle - unless you count unorganised pirate rabble they outnumber ten to one. I damn well hope we do move against Avann. The Sons of Mars are going to show the Voinians, the government and the Scuds just how we do war.
Central Europe, Earth
Two giant terraformer hovercraft swept across the barren wasteland thad had, almost two hundred years ago, been part of the country of France. Now, it was all part of the United Earth Confederacy, and this particularly part of land had not been used in some time. The Voinians had ravaged much of Earth, particularly Europe and North America, and this was one such area.
The hovercraft were using special gravetic devices that worked under similar principles to the artificial gravity fields on all spacecraft across known space, sweeping over the land and flattening it with massive directed gravitational forces. Previously, chasms, rifts, fold mountains and the like had been dotted around this area, but all were reduced by the terraformers quickly.
It was all in preparation of the construction of a new shipyard, designed for one purpose only: to construct the new U.E. cruisers. Similar shipyards were already being constructed across U.E. space, with a total of nine (including the one to be built on Earth) being simultaneously developed, individual parts constructed in factories and then shipped to vast artificial flatlands where they were assembled by mechanoids monitored by a central command. Each shipyard was fully automated, like the latest fighter docks, and would put together a fully functional military cruiser within 168 hours - one week - of non-stop work. In order to sustain the heightened demand for resources, particularly that used in the exterior hulls of U.E. capital vessels, mines across the Confederacy were being upgraded or replaced. The price that was being paid by these actions was not one the government was paying, of course. The money necessary to do all these came from the people - the war tax that had been in place since the beginning of the War had been increased for the fifth time in the last year, this time by the largest increment.
As the massive terraformers completed their work and ponderously left, half a dozen cargo transporters drifted down into the atmosphere, along with various atmospheric aircraft and construction vehicles. The air was thick with activity, locusts obscuring the sky, a knot of ravens descending upon the newly sown land.
UE Covert Police Headquarters, New Chicago, Thoso
It had been some time since the arrival of the Igadzra aliens into Thoso, and their crew had since landed on the planet of New Chicago and been forcibly detained. Their fleet was surrounded in space by two U.E. squadrons, and was badly outnumbered. Weeks had passed since the U.E. forces had taken the Igadzra in, and this was hardly the first interrogation the Covert Police had held.
"The situation is very simple," the police agent said, leaning forward over the table to stare into the defiant Igadzra's eyes, non-human eyes meeting black sunglasses. "We demand that you immediately surrender your ships without a fight, and if you do not do so... then you will get a fight, and you will lose - every last one of you will die."
"You cannot frighten me, human," the Igadzra spat. "We will not give in to your demands."
Leaning backwards again, the agent faked a sigh. "You do not make this easy for you, you realise. Surely you understand that we only wish the ability to protect ourselves... I'm sure you are entirely aware that we will only be an enemy to you if you force us to. Our ethics are hardly... strict... but we are true to our word. If you surrender your ships now, we will supply you with civilian vessels, and you are free to leave. Your vaunted Igadzra nation has already fallen, and there is nowhere in the galaxy you can take those ships without being fired upon. Leave them with us, and you may forge a new life."
"Our lives are ended. We will not help you now. There is nothing left for us."
"Revenge." The word sliced away the resistance in the Igadzra's voice.
"How?"
"If you surrender your ships, we will have the technology we need to greatly enhance our navy," the agent explained. "We already have much that would be effective against you and your enemies, but were we to combine our technologies... believe me, the Confederacy will have the power and the inclination to destroy those who conquered your space. We do not 'offer' to go to war as part of this agreement, of course, but it is something that we cannot do unless we are supplied with your technologies."
The Igadzran was silent for some time. "What do you need?"
"Your vessels. The vessels that would mark you to be killed immediately if you left with them. Also, we would require the services of your best engineers to help explain how all your technologies work, for some time. Reverse engineering is a sluggish process. Leave them with us, and we will give you whatever you need."

UE Battleship Following the success of the UE Cruiser, the Confederacy has opted to draw up plans for an even greater vessel. As the cruiser only served to provide some backbone to the UE forces and serve as a counterpart to the Voinians cruiser, it is believed that another ship is necessary to give the UE an edge over their enemies. The UE Battleship is the result of this decision. The original specifications have been drawn up by the R&D; team (not by Anna Balashova, who has recently retired), and are quite formidable.
It will take five more realtime days for the designs to be completed and the first UE Battleship (and its respective orbital shipyard complex in orbit of Saalia) produced. The battleship is to be six to seven times larger than the cruiser, and be armed with eighteen fusion bolt turrets, along with a significant armanent of Hunter-Killer missiles (see below for the information on them), and five bays holding a total of ten UE fighters and three UE destroyers. The shielding on the battleship is to be five times greater than that on the cruiser, making it by far the most well defended ship in known space (to humanity.)
The vessel will also have a significant amount of free space available - it has been suggested that the UE intend to develop a heavy ordnance weapon to complement the battleships existing armanent.
Hunter-Killer Missile Following the reasonable success of the hunter missile, a modification on the Voinian fusion rocket stolen decades ago, the UE have opted to develop their own unique weapon now that their war with the Voinians is not as desperate as it once was. The Hunter-Killer missile is much heavier than the earlier hunter missile, weighing ten tons, and as a result it has a much more powerful payload - also due to developments in fusion technology coming from the Star Furnace project. In addition, the bulky Hunter-Killer missiles are actually armoured and shielded quite considerably for their size, making them tough targets for point defence. With ship-class sensors, they are also outstandingly difficult to jam. The general principle of the Hunter-Killer is to be an unstoppable long-range weapon with no obvious flaws. The launcher for the Hunter-Killer is a large device, and as such they would never fit in a fighter, and are pressed to be used in destroyers. (However, with carriers becoming obsolete with the introduction of cruisers, it is likely they will be turned into missile frigates and have significant Hunter-Killer armanent.)

The news of Zurg's defeat slowly trickled into Freeport but within hours it had engulfed the whole station. The halls of Freeport were filled with celebration and revelry. Ever since Zurg founded the empire and made deadly enemies of many of the nearby nations, the citizens of the Empire lost faith in their new leader.
After two days of debating and arguing the captains of Freeport decided upon a new leader. Captian David Murov, had shown great leadership and bravery when he led raids on United Earth trade routes and over the years became a leading voice in the petition to make peace with UE, now he was to become ruler of the Human Empire.
Emperor David Murov proceeded along a main hallway to the balcony to give his acceptance speech.

Emperor David Murov: "I have been chosen by the captains of Freeport to succeed Zurg as Emperor of the Human Empire. I decline the title of Emperor but will become a temporary leader until a more democratic form of government is established. Zurg was an evil, corrupt leader, he destroyed many lives and made many enemies in his quest for ultimate power. His breif reign summed up the ways of renegade life: cruelty, back-stabbing, cunning. That legacy ends today, I appologize to everyone for the previous sins of our nation and wish to pursue a goal of ultimate peace. I urge all of the galactic leaders to become peacemakers and not warriors. Only an evil person can lead civilization alone but a good leadership must be comprised of many rulers. All raids will cease on trade routes within our borders and attacks on other nations will end. No longer will criminals and fugitives roam our territory unchecked and we will seek peace with all that are willing. " -Narrator: "Murov now leaves the balcony escorted by two guards." **End

Pirious reads the message from the former human renegades... and his blood boils. first the voinians, now the renegades expect to be immediately forgiven... but since they ARE human, they will be given an offer.
Message to Human Renegades From: UE Greetings, Scum of the earth. We've recieved your message. You expect us to immediately forgive all of your country's crimes? Even if your government did exchange hands, we demand reimbursement. We make the following demands if you want peace- 1. We get to cleanse your space of all wanted criminals (by executing them.. publically) 2. We get your needle missile designs 3. Your ships are not allowed in our space without explicit permission.

Research progresses on schedule. Star Furnace and the Cruiser Shipyards are complete. _As for a new heavy ordinance weapon, an idea has been resurected from a primitive anti-aircraft weapon used on earth in WWI.. Flak artillery. By modifying the designs of the Voinian Fusion rocket to replace propellant with a range sensor and shrapnel, split the warhead into several rounds, and developing a turret to reload quickly and accurately accelerate the shells(with several rounds inside), A weapon should be developed that 1, does massive damage to armor, and 2, having a timed detonation, the rounds manage to excel at destablizing and damaging even the strongest shields... _ However, several problems arise in the development of this weapon... 1, How to catapult the rounds 2, How to design the sensors to detect the shield grid 3, development of real materials and specs.. So this weapon will take quite a while to develop..but it'll be worth it.
Flak- ETC: 9 RTD's- 1/7/02
Proposed specs: Mass- 90 tons Rounds- 10 tons each, with 4 contained fusion-shrapnel shells. The Round is firedThe bits fly outward end explode after 3/10th of a second, or when they hit something. the Shells do 400 shield damage, and 400 armor damage.

Moderation: Redchigh, that flak weapon is out of line. That's 11925 shield damage and 11175 armour damage per shell. It's absurd. For a 10-ton weapon, dealing 1000 damage is something of a cap considering the warheads you're using.
South Tip Conclave Akrayhek
"This is all madness," Mathuin declared to the Conclave, four hundred silent spectators watching and listening, recording his every action with a critical eye. "The first potential allies we meet, those closest to understanding our own situation, we are invading for... what? The defence of some people we don't know, who hardly understand what is happening around them. What did the League do to justify this attack?"
"Is it so unclear to you, Mathuin?" asked a cool-headed Obutan Strandless. "You are one of the few members of this Conclave who do not see what the League have been attempting from the beginning. Moving in to 'protect' the Igadzra, leaving them no choice in the matter... refusing to back down when we suggested a solution. That is not mentioning their militarisation and their butchery of the human renegades. It was justified, but it is clear how readily they went about it all: the League are clearly a government bent on domination, there can be no doubting it."
"You say that..." Mathuin responded calmly, "but it is nothing more than an opinion. There are no facts. Have we really fallen so that the opinions of a few people can result in the deaths of millions?"
"Enough," Varian cut Mathuin off with sharp authority that he officially did not bear. "This is not opinion. The League were holding people against their will. They had seized their industry and their shipyards, as well as demanding their surplus... they did the same as the renegades have done, exactly the same. Amaryon could have put it better, yes, but that is the situation, and we have responded to that as any honourable government would."
Mathuin had lost it. Varian's hold over the Conclave was out of hand. "Varian. You are a member of the Conclave, and I am the Governor of the Conclave. Your continued blatant disrespect for my position is out of order. Stand down immediately. You will not speak unless I ask it of you."
There was silence in the Hall. Absolute silence - not a single whisper. Varian did not sit back down. The two Kayans stared each other for an agonising moment, Mathuin in fear of what he might have brought on, Varian hoping blindly that the rest of the Conclave would support him if he did what Mathuin feared.
"If anybody is out of line..." Varian murmued quietly, yet loudly enough to be heard across the Hall, "then I believe the entire Hall knows who it is." And then the whispers began, as the two political leaders continued to watch each other, red eyes locked. "I call for a governing election as of immediately, to replace Mathuin."
Almost six hours later, Varian left the Halls of the Conclave, feeling very much wearied by the events that had passed, and more than a little surprised. Varian had long taken upon himself the role as a behind-the-shadows leader of the Conclave, the puppet master that no-one really saw, but he had been ready to accept the position as Governor of the Conclave, if only to rid himself of that annoying obstacle, Mathuin. They had both been surprised. They had both expected it to be a battle between the two of them, not expecting anybody, never mind the majority, to vote somebody else. And of the four hundred or so Conclave members, to choose a senile old man.
Outwardly, Varian sincerely hoped he was not showing his emotions much, but he felt that he probably was. He felt furious. Losing to Mathuin would have been one thing - but this! Dieknur, the old senile bat. 27% of the votes to Mathuin, 30% of the votes to Varian, and Dieknur somehow managing to get 43%. It was insane. If anybody was gaining influence like that, he should have seen it coming. There were signs. You were just too confident to see them... Dieknur dined with a different member of the Conclave every day, in what you always what was just a futile attempt to be recognised as still alive. You never considered his senile old rants in front of you was a ploy.
"Well..." a voice behind Varian muttered. "That was certainly interesting." Varian turned to see Mathuin, making significantly less effect to hide his frustration. "Did you see that coming?"
Varian laughed then. "Dieknur? A senile old man. I should have remembered when he was younger. Dieknur, Lord of Vardamaught, Shield of Kayia." Raising his head to view tapestries on the ceiling far above, Varian wasn't particularly surprised to see that they depicted battles over two hundred years, battles he and Dieknur had commanded and won. The irony was delicious.
"Know anything about his policies?" Mathuin asked, misery in his voice.
"Dieknur? An interesting man. You never know what to expect with him, I'm afraid. But he's in support of destroying the League."
"Ball's in your court, it sounds," muttered Mathuin.
"We'll see. We both suffered a blow. And I'm afraid Dieknur isn't an easy man to tie strings to. Good luck, Mathuin, but I'd say we've both lost any chance of power."
The Human Empire had come to the end of its short life, now a new system of government and taken shape. The reformed government was now called the Southern Republic, dedicated to bringing peace to the galaxy and repentant of its former misdeeds. Elections were to be held in two weeks to find a leader to replace David Murov, the temporary leader. Captain Calvin MacArthur and CEO Albert Wilson were two presidential canidates selected by the Captains of Freeport. Many of the Captians of Freeport would become part of a small senate.

The Emalghan and the Miranu were now brothers. Miranu citizens were now Emalghan citizens, and vice versa. Thousands of Miranu disembarked daily from the Freighters, Couriers, and Heavy Freighters that brought them to Emalghan planets. With each new wave of immigrants came a wave of supplies too. The Miranu had agreed to upgrade the Emalghans' shields and engines; to this end, Miranu engineers and technicians brought with them the necessary equipment to upgrade and enhance the current Emalghan technology.
The Emalghan Battleship was rolling off the shipyard lines at a very slow rate. As of now, the orbital shipyard around Emalghion had been converted to producing 2 Battleships every (RTD). Construction and processing plants were being built all over every planet in the hopes that more battleships, about one or two more, every (RTD) would be able to be built. Saga of the Guild: Chapter 31
Eden, Ji Nebula
All hail Galil, Prophet of Planet! declared High Engineer Aenig. He stood to the left and slightly behind a Miranu of record stature. Galil was a giant among Miranu; he stood an incredible two and a half meters tall. The people spoke in secret, and these days in not so secret, conversations and swore the Prophet was enhanced by Eden, by the Planet itself. It was said he could perform miracles, although no tangible proof of that claim had yet been presentedwhich was one of the many reasons Aenig had been surprised to see how many Miranu were present. Galils acolytes, called Seeds, had confided to him that over eight billion had assembled across the fields.
Which made Aenig wonder why Galil used no voice amplifier.
Galil raised his hands up to the stars. He then lowered them in a welcoming gesture and slowly moved in a circle, embracing all those who had come to the heart of the Eastern Jungle. It was a clearing surrounded on three sides by the great thousand-meter Falls of Eden and pierced in the center by a giant obelisk of rock upon which the Prophet now stood. The great trees of the Jungle towered higher still, their great crowns shadowing the clearing and leaving only a shaft of light to illumine the obelisk. Galil must have been involved in the early surveying to know about this place , thought Aenig.
Prophet Galil suddenly stopped moving. He looked across the fields, then closed his eyes. The eyelids flickered erratically, with rainbow light escaping them on occasion. His mouth opened.
The Galaxy has changed. Much blood has stained the skies of distant worlds. Galil will be our Voice, our link to you. We have welcomed you onto our soil because we believe there is great potential in your race. Already we see you place large stock in honor, in loyalty, and in trust. You must now look further.
The voice resonated deep within Aenigs mind. It was a sound like the Planet itself: alive, yet something more was there; it seemed to contain all the memories of oceans, all the grandeur of jungles, the majesty of mountains, and the presence of a sentient mind of enormous cogitative power. Aenig now understood. Eden was a sentient planet.
You must look into the forgotten places of your minds, into the very depths of your intellect. The real will mean surreal, acceptance will become doubt, thought become action. You will slowly learn the First Layer of Edenism. The First will teach you the wisdom of silence, the joy of Tlo, the Collective Song. To become one of Enlightenment, to reach the Seventh Layer and become a Prophet, one must remain oneself while at the same time becoming something more, perhaps many things more.
The Multitude of Eden swayed and suddenly began swirling and danced and twirled like a whirling dervish of Earth. The Voice continued to speak, to teach the Wisdom of the Mind. Aenig looked up from his meditation to see Galil towering over him. The Prophet smiled kindly at him and suddenly Aenig was aware of a second voice in his mind.
I shall teach you first. It was Galil in the same way the Voice had unmistakably been Eden. Aenig was startled. Galil only smiled wider. You have already attuned your mind to hear me, Engineer Aenig, and I am ready to hear your reply.
Aenig knew not what to do. He tried to think a thought to Galil, but the Prophet showed no signs of recognition. Attempt upon attempt, each one different, he tried, Still no sign of reaction. Aenig reverted to normal means. I can not.
Galil winced as if the sound of speech was loud and harsh. He tapped his left temple, then another thought flowered in Aenigs mind. You know of the Logic Trance? Aenig nodded. He had accomplished it on rare occasions. Galil nodded in approval. It is much the same. The Logic Trance can be accomplished by any Miranu, as long as another mind aids him in this respect. Thought trances see the merging of intellects into one collective well of energy. The well can then be tapped by others attuned to it, can be filled by other Miranu wells. Planet is an enormous such well all of its own. My goal, the supreme purpose of Edenism, is to attune the Miranu to their own total energy, what Eden called the Collective Song. Try achieving an active thought trance and then focus your thoughts through it towards me.
Aenig agreed. He blanked his mind, then began the meditation procedure taught to all Miranu from birth. He slowly acquired a foundation in his thoughts and worked from there to build outwards his mental web. He constructed a line towards Galil, then touched it to his mind.
Are my thoughts audible? queried Aenig. His own mind seemed much clearer.
Indeed. I hear you quite well. Galil grinned. Aenig smiled as well.
The two of them worked day and night afterwards with each other and with other Miranu to teach them all the methods needed to accomplish Silent-Think, as Galil called the mental conversations. Aenig discovered the great joy of teaching to others how to communicate by Tlo, Planets term for Silent-Think. It was not hard to teach, and soon the number of Mirnau who could teach and converse through Tlo was great.
And more were learning every day.

Innor, Innirian System
The Innor Senate was an enormous structure. Exhibiting the beautiful crystal architecture of the Miranu as well as the flowing grace characteristic of Igadzra buildings, the Senate structure was a symbol of the very real love between the Igadzra and the Miranu. One thousand and one seats existed in the halls of the massive buildings central atrium. Eleven of them were on a raised pedestal rising from the floor of the funnel-shaped room. The other 990 seats were arranged in circular terraces spiraling up the sides of the Senate Legislation Hall. The chamber was equally populated by both Miranu and Igadzra citizens, with the president of the Senate now an Igadzra. The Miranu and Igadzra governed themselves from the Senate, while the Star League was operated from the High Council far away on Mira. So far this arrangement had been most advantageous, and both peoples were contented with the situation.
The name of the Igadzra who held the title of President of Innor was Kilule. He had served in the Igadzra military for many autumns, but had retired before Mindules regime had taken power and had taken no part in the Theft of Himgro. His generalship of Innor had seen the creation of the largest shipyards in the galaxy, which now, instead of constructing Igadzra warships, assembled Miranu vessels. Kilule didnt mind; as long as his shipyards build something he was content. Today the Senate would debate how to redistribute construction resources; they had recently received the plans for the Thoth Destroyer and the Horus Interceptor.
I welcome you here today, my Igadzra siblings and Miranu blood-friends, to this meeting of the Innor Senate. He gestured out the window to the enormous ship building complexes dominating the skyline. We need to reorganize the construction rates of our glorious manufactories. As you all know, the Research Directorates have designed warships to utilize the advanced nanoweapons that were recently developed. Now, we have been constructing several Miranu Freighters each galactic standard week along with Ra Gunships and Sokar Carriers. We have been assembling one APOPHIS strategic weapon at the same rate here on Innor. However, we have received word from Admiral Sunrunner that we need to begin producing Thoths and Horuses. I open the Senate floor to debate on the following question: Do we cease producing freighters and focus entirely on the new nanoforces, or do we distribute the resources between them?
No chaos ensued. The Miranu and Igadzra were both known for their patience and sense of order. The Miranu minority leader spoke first. He counseled the Senate to halt freighter production, citing fleet numbers to demonstrate the Star League already had sufficient freighter fleets. He thus urged the legislators to redirect the Innor Space Yards efforts to constructing a nanite force to patrol trouble spots of the Star League.
A bulky Igadzra stood. Tahvale, the majority leader, opened his mouth and boomed a deep laugh that echoed across the Senate. My Miranu colleague took the words from my mouth and said them much better than I would have been capable. Indeed, I agree with this argument. Let us switch from building freighters to making destroyers and interceptors. I call for a vote.
Kilule nodded. A roll call vote ensued, and the measure passed with 723 ayes, 240 nays, and 38 abstentions. The President rose, and the Senate was seated.
Very well. The Innor Space Yards will begin constructing Thoth Destroyers and Horus Interceptors. I will notify the Engineers immediately.
The meeting progressed onwards to domestic issues. The mixed housing complexes and recreational areas had been completed, and life on Innor returned to the comfortable norm.
The same situation repeated itself on Ragni, Lapsin, and at Outpost Vargien.
Isis Colonies, Stror System
Over many weeks, colonies had been set up on all three worlds in Stror. The two moons had already developed substantial agricultural bases. Now, with the populations growing in booms, the citizens could focus more on engineering and shipyard capabilities. The giant world below had been torn apart by hundreds of deep-core mines cut into its mineral rich surface. The freighters in the system worked shifts, half hauled supplies and ship parts up from the mine and factory world to the fertile Isis moons for final assembly; the other half plied the exchange routes of the Miranu Trade Net. Good planning on the part of Engineer Aenig, still the head of the Engineering Caste and still quite involved in the affairs of both Event Horizon and Station Pybin, had allowed the construction of ultra-efficient shipyards in Stror. Already they were churning out Ra Gunships, Thoth Destroyers, and Horus Interceptors.
Tradeprefect Eonus Telerdah had recently arrived with a defense fleet assembled in the core of the Star League. He served as the governor of Stror, reporting directly to the Trademaster as a balance to the high councilor who had recently set off. Somms work no doubt , thought Eonus with grudging approval. Hes really raking that Igadzra no corruption policy seriously. Ill need to meet with the other Tradeprefects soon.
Born on New Mira, Eonus was no stranger to the frontier life. He had even fought in the Hrekka battle alongside Admiral Sunrunneras his political counselor, admittedly, but the public didnt need to know that. He had seen the renegade threat his entire childhood though, and steadfastly supported Marig and Xohhs talk of destroying the Rock and freeing the North Tip of renegades forever. Eonus spat. The dwellers of the opulent core did not realize the danger the renegades would always pose. As long as they exist, the Miranu will have an unpredictable variable to deal with.
This was part of the reason he had volunteered to command the Stror colony. The massive shipyards of Stror would further boost the output of warships to defend the Star League. But there was more to it than that. Stror Shipyards would inaugurate the first Anubis Singularity Artillery Ship. Eonus held the secret hope that he would command the ship, would lead it against the renegades and take his revenge. He had learned enough about piloting and combat during his time aboard the M.S.L. Discoverer , the flagship of the Miranu Defense Fleet, to successfully lead an attack himself. He would take measures to secure a command aboard the first Anubis.
There was little truth among the Miranu in the old saying that politicians made poor warriors. The leaders of the Miranu had to be brilliant to rise to their positions. Admiral Sunrunner had been Trademaster before Corzun Dah; it was a widely publicized fact. Tradeprefect Eonus Telerdah was encouraged by this pattern.
Now , he thought, let us see our ship.
Event Horizon:
Project: Heru-ur Colonization: In the DSN-8789 and DSN-6008 systems within the Ji Nebula, the Miranu will construct two colonies. Each system will produce +1 Sokar Carrier, +3 Ra Gunships, and +1 Thoth Destroyer per (RTD). (Begun: 1/1/03) (End: 1/6/03)
Research: Antimatter Reactor: Combining the most advance reactor technology with the power of antimatter, the Miranu will design a powerful engine of their starships, which will increase the yield of Miranu weapons and allow their ships to cloak for very long time periods. Singularity containment fields will hold the reactor in safe conditions and will absorb all the energy released should the reactor be destroyed. Research will take 7 (RTDs) and refitting will take 2 (RTDs), for a total of 9 (RTDs). (Begun: 1/1/03) (End: 1/10/03)
Station Pybin Research Directorate:
Project: Sekhmet Colonization: The Sirabor system has been found to be as rich as the Stror system, and the Colonization Steering Committee has ordered it to be claimed as a member of the Star League. Gas mining will occur in the depths of the main blue world, while the moons of Vuna and Kuna will both support Engineering Directorates as advanced as in Stror. Sirabor will add +2 Sokar, +4 Ra, and +1 Anubis Singularity Artillery Ship per (RTD). (Stror is now reconfigured to also have this production rate.) (Begun: 1/1/03) (End: 1/6/03)
Research: Singularity Laser: In what is perhaps the Star Leagues final weapons project, Supreme Admiral Sunrunner and Researcher Somm have begun work on a tactical version of the Singularity Cannon. Judging from initial calculations, the laser should be a full 40% more powerful than photonic weaponry. The end of the project will see the refitting of current photonic weapon mounts with their singularity counterparts. (Begun: 1/1/03) (End: 1/10/03)

Projects: Picket Ships: Emalghan Engineers, with the help of Miranu technicians, are researching the possibility of remote controlled drones. They would be no bigger than the weapon they house and the attached engines. They would have the speed of about a Crescent Fighter but dismal shields and virtually no armour. However, their small size would make them hard to hit by any means except guided weaponry. At best, they would be able to carry a small weapon, such as a scaled down Rocket Launcher or Emalghan Cannon. These drones would be launched by unarmed, but heavily armoured and shielded, Picket Ships, which will carry 12 drones. It will be onboard the Picket Ship that the Drones are controlled, and should the Picket Ship blow up, the Drones will also blow up. This project includes the necessary processing and construction facilities for the mass production of them when it is completed, and the scaled down rockets and rocket launcher. The Emalghans have purchased an Arada and are going to refine it, so there is no need for a prototype of it. (Begun: 1/2/03 To be Finished: 1/8/03)
Telepath Incorporation: The Emalghans have discovered that the Frotin's telepathic capabilities are relatively weak. Nevertheless, Emalghan Fighters are now being equipped with another seat so as to accomodate a Frotin Telepath. This project involves the modification of the Fighters and the traning of the Telepaths. Their range is about the same as a Liquidator (or about 35% more than that of a Neutron Cannon and 20% more than that of a Phase Cannon) (Begun: 1/2/03 To be Finished: 1/7/03)
Production: +13 Defenders +10 Carriers +17 Fighters (1 50% complete) +1 Battleship (Two day's production)
Reorganisation of the Shipyards: +9 Battleships/(RTD) +2 Prototype Picket Ships +1 Golan Mk. III Nothing else will be produced.

The Final Killing
Mindule watched the huge, thriving city. There were many more, but Igadzra was the largest. Many people were sleeping outside of their little huts. Zeken had assured Mindule that there were no wild creatures that were dangerous on this planet. Mindule didn't really care, though. He was sure his people could defend themselves. It was getting late at night, and people were putting their fires out. Mindule walked back into his hut, and layed on the makeshift bed. He sighed, knowing that they would be on this planet for a long time. His fist tightened. When he got back to the Old Galaxy, he would have his navy slaughter the Azdgari and the Miranu. He slowly relaxed, and fell asleep. ----- Mindule awake slowly to the sound of a loudspeaker. He looked out to the center of the town of Igadzra, and took out his View-enhancers. He focused on the speaker. It was Zeken. Mindule wondered what he was doing out there, and began to run down the hill, towards the square where Zeken was talking, and people were coming out of their houses. He got within hearing range, and heard Zeken talking.
"I know that the last few days have been tough for all of you. None of you knew what was happening, or where you were going. Now that things have settled down, I will tell you." Mindule's eyes widened with horror, and he ran even faster.
"Soon, the ways of the Igadzra will be over. A new order will rise, a stronger, safer, order." Mindule was almost there. He started yelling as loud as he could, telling Zeken to stop.
"Your homeplanet of Igadzra is gone." A huge gasp was heard over the crowd. Suddenly, Mindule felt the glare of thousands of eyes on him. He stopped running towards the crowd and began to run away. Zekens voice broke the silence, and it was directed at Mindule.
"I'm sorry, great leader, but your times are passed." He took out a blaster, and shot. Mindule fell, a hole burned through the back of his head.
"This is the end of the Igadzra. From now on, I will be your leader, and I will teach this society the ways of the Gadzair. There will be no more death, no more fear. Only peace, and life." Slowly, the crowd started clapping and cheering. They knew that their hardships were at end. It would be a new age... the age of the Igadzair.
The Emalghan Design team that had designed the concept of all three Golan Defense Stations and the Emalghan BattleCruiser. Now, they were working on a type of ship that could serve as a powerful, but quick, escort for the relatively defenseless Defenders and Freighters should an attack ever come. The Picket Ship, or Emalghan Corvette as it was more commonly known, was still in the design phase. The Engineers had come up with a hypothetical way to shrink the Rocket Launcher. Literally what they would do was porportionally shrink it to about 1/2 of what it was currently. The team had realised that it wasnt necessary to have the rockets have so much propellant; after all, it only took the rocket 2 seconds to accelerate to maximum velocity; after that point, since it wasnt guided, there was no need for so much propellant. The space that was conserved through the removal of the excess propellant was to be packed full of explosive; the result would be a rocket that, though only 1/2 the size, packed 3/4 of the punch of the regular rocket. The Emalghan Cannon design didnt even really need to be scaled down. The cannon could literally just have engines, shielding, and communications built around it in the form of a box tapered cyclinder, and then it would be the drone. The Corvette wouldnt really have a bay where the drones could dock and rearm; rather, the drones would each have their indiviual little tunnel where they could easily be guided and docked (through the use of magnets) or launched (reverse the polarity of the magnets, and the drone would go shooting out). Inside, there would be a small and relatively cramped workspace where 1 technician and 1 mechanic could speedily rearm or recharge the drone. In the center of the ship was a control center where 12 trained pilots would control the drones. Surprisingly, enemy fighters would be the most difficult opponents; only they were capable of manuevering fast enough and tracking their weapons quickly enough to obliterate the drones. Capital ships weaponry would have a hard time spotting, much less hitting, the manueverable drones with their slim profile.
The first batch of fighters had been drydocked and augmented with an extra seat. The Frotin would be more or less passengers until they were needed to deliver the final blow to the enemy. An academy for the Frotin on Frotin had already been set up, and day by day, more and more Emalghans were immigrating to Frotin. Meanwhile, on the different worlds of the Emalghan Protectorate, the processing plants were almost complete. Soon, they would churn out enough materials to produce 7 Golans of any type at any place where they could be assembled by a construction team.
Production: +9 Battleships +2 Corvettes +1 Golan Mk. II
Totals: 13 Battleships 2 Corvettes 58 Carriers 81 Defenders 176 Fighters 55 Warships
(ooc: This post is to solidify the research I will be doing until Friday, when I will opt out until the sequel.) (Will all finish on 1/10/03)
Nanominiaturization: (I am putting two slots towards this so that it can finish in proper order.) A complete overhaul of all Miranu technology, the new procedures for making all outfits in Miranu space will include the resizing of equipment on the nanite level. All Miranu technology will become more compact, facilitating the construction of more ships, the ability to hold more weapons, and/or (haven't really decided) increased speed and maneuverability of Miranu starships.
Singularity Time Shields: A modification to the standard singularity twist shields, teh STS matrix can bend gravity fields to create synthetic black holes, which can now absorb energy assaults as well as projectiles. Any Miranu ship can create up to 4 synthetic black holes, but the 4th will collapse the standard shield grid of the vessel. Each singularity can absorb any 3 projectiles before being collapsed.
The other research will also be concluding that day. (The antimatter reactor)
