Saga of the Guild: Chapter 25
Ersadt
After several hours of fierce urban fighting within the station, with Igadzran military hardliners fighting room to room and with surprising ferocity, the Miranu finally finished their capture of the Ersadt system, securing the station and posting declarations of law across it, explaining the law codes of the Star League. The Miranu occupation commander informed the Igadzra of Ersadt they were legally citizens of the Star League, but if they wished they could leave Ersadt to resettle further in Igadzra space. The Miranu immediately began setting up station-based photon batteries do consolidate their space, and the espionage corps that had landed with the troops reported the capture of the Igazra design plans. The commander was most pleased. He then sent a message to Researcher Somm, informing him the time had come.
=============
Mira
Researcher Somm read the message from the main base commander of Ersadt and smiled with a predatory grin rarely seen on the face of a normally peaceful Miranu leader. He looked to Trademaster Dah, who nodded.
Researcher Somm slammed his hand down on the green breaker.
A signal blared out from Mira, the EM Spike activation codes. The encrypted message spread across the Igadzra space, where it had been directed to. The message included an activation program for the encrypted viruses installed in the original repulsor and tractor beams the Igadzra had so hatefully stolen from them. The Igadzra had been unable to detect the cunning Miranu sabotage, and had politely equipped all their ships with defective weapons.
The EM Spike activated. All the repulsor and tractor beams across Igadzra space copied from the original design emitted the signal, disabling the entire Igadzra navy.
==========
Innirian
Task Force Karma arrived and quickly saw the floating disabled Igadzra ships. The task force split in two, part of it to attempt boarding actions, the other part to provide escort for the ground forces. The minefield was cleared, as tractor/repulsor technology had also been installed on them (OOC: I'm not sure on this. If I read this part wrong, I'll edit later.) The Miranu quickly began the conquest of Innirian with the landing of twenty thousand photonics-armed shock troops. The forces swept across the planet, wiping out clumps of Igadzran hardline troops with concentrated bursts of Enforcers and photonic rifles. It would yet be some time before the final pockets of resistance were wiped out, but the Miranu commanders felt confident the planet would be secured soon.

============
Threefrog
Task Force Dharma arrived in Threefrog and cleared the disabled minefield, and split up to take the planet and to attempt boarding actions. A covering force of Osiris fighters escorted the main dropships down and provided cover for the ground forces as they assaulted the planet. The Igadzran military installations were subdued quickly, and the commander of the ground forces quickly established a system of patrols to root out guerrillas and secure the loyalty of the people with a new doctrine developed by the Espionage Corps. The planet would join the Star League within one galactic standard week.

Star League Construction Guild Report:
Constructed/Built/Completed: 5 MH Freighters, 10 M Freighters, 8 Sokars, 20 Ras patrolling Zanat.
With the completion of many major projects and research, the Station Pybin Research Directorate and the Event Horizon installation have turned their scopes on new prospects.
Event Horizon:
Project: APOPHIS Strategic Weapon Prototype: Incorporating the recent developments of sub-spatial cloaking and antimatter explosives, the Antimatter Payload Oscillation Phase Heavy Inter-dimensional Stealth Strategic Weapon carries only extensive fuel tanks and a significant antimatter payload. Due to its purpose as a strategic weapon, the APOPHIS weighs 100 tons. (Begun: 12/18/02) (End: 12/22/02) (Production of 2 per RTD after completion of prototype)
Research: Nanotechnology: The Miranu, having satisfied the antimatter desires of the military, have turned to investigating the uses of infinitesimally small robots known as nanites. The Miranu are considering implementing these microscopic mechanicals in weapons, and are also most curious as to its feasibility as an exotic armor plating. The following will be complete when Nanotechnology is finished. (Note: This is a long term project to occur while I am in my interim period without the capability to post.) (Begun: 12/18/02) (End: 12/27/02)
The following are part of the Nanotechnology project, and will be available to the Miranu Defense Fleet with the completion of the research.
Miranu NanoArmor: an extremely durable form of plating, NanoArmor is capable of repairing itself through the process of equal matter conversion. Although this is not an instantaneous process by a long shot, the armor itself provides a substantial boost to ship life, and its self-repairing abilities are an added plus. (50 tons)
Nano Weaponry: Miranu weapons researchers have theorized the possibility of weapons capable of attaching to a ships protective armor and consuming the armor while converting it into more armor-consumers, thus allowing for an exponential rate of destruction regarding the targets armors integrity. A nanite cloud attaches to the target vessel and starts chewing through the armor, slowly making more nanites to eat away the armor. Several rounds of nanite clouds to complement the original round can fully breach enemy armor by speeding the process immeasurably. Nanite Cannon: The nanite cannon fires magnetically accelerated pellets, which explode upon impact into nanite clouds. It is, however, very heavy and has a slow reload rate. (10 tons) Swivel Nanite Cannon: A nanite cannon mounted on a 360° swivel, it lacks the armor of a turret for the sake of lower weight. It fires nanite pellets at twice the rate of a standard nanite cannon. (15 tons)
Station Pybin Research Directorate:
Project Galactic Eyes: The Miranu have opted to build their own Galactic Eyes, modeled after the Conclave version already in place, in Zanat and in Nadej. This will take quite some time, but the Miranu High Council feel that keeping its watch on The Rock is imperative for the current times. (Begun: 12/18/02) (End: 12/27/02)
Research Miranu Jammer: The Miranu military has decided that since it possesses countermeasure systems, it should proceed to make this an advantage exclusive to the Miranu forces. The Miranu Jammer will be capable of blocking all enemy communications when deployed. It can also scramble enemy countermeasure systems to some extent. (Begun: 12/18/02) (End: 12/27/02)

OOC: Right. This is where I left off... ---------- Part Two "This isn't a building. This is a colony ship." Even Mindule's mouth hung open.
"Who sent it? Why here?" Suddenly, the comm link beeped. Mindule answered it, and an excited voice came to be.
"I've done it. The ship is repowering itself. Wait a few minutes, and tell me what happens." However, they had to wait only a few seconds before the the lights came on. Suddenly, the capsules were alive, beeping and clicking. Little screens beside each capsule also turned on, showing the status of it's contents. After looking around, Mindule sighed.
"All of them are dead."
"Not all of them, sir." He was at the Gadzairs capsules. One was dead, but one was showing faint signs of life. Quickly, the scientist typed at a keypad, and spoke into the comm link. The capsule creaked, and the being inside slowly opened it's eyes, which promptly widened. The capsule opened, and it stepped out.
"Cai mae too? Hanew aheped?" Mindule looked at the translater, who looked back.
"He's speaking in Ancient Gadzair." The translator turned to the being, and spoke in the best he could.
" We canot undersstond yoo. Du yoo 'ave a traneslater? " The creature nodded, and walked over to a counter. He put his hand on it, and a shelf seemed to melt out of the top. He pulled a small speaking device out of the shelf, and put it on.
"Iz thiz any better?" The translater smiled and talked to Mindule.
"He can't understand Igadzran, only I can talk to him. He asked where he was, and what year he is in, I think." The translater turned to the Gadzair." We ar the Igadzzra. If Iam coreckt in saing yoo ar Gadzair, yoor rayse is daed. All that iss left iz Council Station. " The Gadzair didn't look stunned, he only grinned.
"I zuppoze you are wonder why I am here. Thiz iz the colony zhip, from which the Igadzra came from. You are a mear variation of uz Gadzair. I believe the Igadzra were the ztronger race, correct?" The translater started to talk, but then walked over and took out another speaking device.
" That is much better. Listen, our race is dying. We have only control on one solar system, and we need to find a way to escape. Is there anywhere that we can seek refuge? Council Station, maybe? "
"Yez, good idea. I am dizzapointed that you are dying, but there iz nothing I can do for you. Just follow me." He stalked off, and the translater shrugged. Mindule and the rest followed him. They came into a small room with a large, hollow cylender in the middle. The Gadzair typed in a few commands into the nearest terminal, and lights started to flicker.
"Juzt come in after I go. Wait five kialz, and it will be activated." Mindule looked confused, and asked the translater.
"Kials? What are-" He was cut off as the Gadzair stepped into the cylender, who's door closed. Through the glass, Mindule watched in horror as the person was disentigrated in front of his eyes. The door opened, and Mindule slowly walked in. In about 10 seconds, he felt a small pain in every atom in his body, then it ended. He stepped out of the teleporter, and looked for the Gadzair, who was standing there.

Feghan System
The colony of the system, now known as Tienna, was no longer a colony. Rather, in the space of 5 score planetary rotations, it had become a planet with a population the size of Gmeito. This was largely accounted for by the fact that the Emalghan systems tended to be overcrowded; more than 3 millennia and only 2 planets and moons each to show for it meant that the Emalghans had begun to resort to underground dwellings when the Voinians invaded. Now, almost all Emalghan Freighters, and even some Warships, had been converted into passenger liners (though this was most certainly a misnomer; everyone had cramped quarters) to ferry people to Tienna. They had especially begun to ferry in lots of scientists. The capital city of Tienna was filled with scientific facilities in which the Emalghan scientists toiled endlessly to create more efficient food genes, more effective vaccinations, and especially more effective drilling equipment.
Feghan, the Emalghan captain responsible for all of this, had been promoted to an Admiral and was given formal responsiblity for his planet. The vestment was a mere formality; in actuality, there was a 2000 person staff that just managed the more trivial details of the planet, not to mention the 1 million people that just ran the government on a day to day basis.
Some distance from the planet, a shipyard had been set up. The shipyard wasnt a very large one by anyones standards; it still churned out 1 Fighter and 1 Freighter a day though. Out of the 200 million people (and increasing every day), more than 4 million of them worked in hastily constructed mines. The mines, while they didnt have any truly precious gems, still had some more common materials that could then be used to produce extra ships elsewhere (for a total of one extra Fighter). Furthermore, the miners processed Uranium so that they could make the special Emalghan pellets that were usually tipped with Uranium.
DSN-4386 Captain Huang and her pathetic fleet came out of hyperspace. Most of the Emalghans in the fleet were still in wonderful moods because of the new discovery of the planets. Someone had brought on champagne, and some jokester had even decorated her ship, the E.S.S. Graceful with party decorations. An atmosphere of a holiday prevailed, despite the fact that they were on a warship. Huang, however, had done nothing to stop it. For too long have we fought, shed blood, and cried. Its high time that they have something to celebrate. Huang was one of the few female captains in the Emalghan Navy. Though both men and women were accepted in the Navy, there were fewer females proportionally at the command level. Shed worked her way up the command hierarchy because, as a helmsman on a Warship, shed had an uncanny ability to even outfly most Fighters. Her ships name referred to the fact that shed been able to accomplish this feat.
As the ships reverted to realspace, the fleet let out another gasp. Huangs heart skipped a beat or two, and for a second, she felt like she might faint. Then, she regained control, and stared hard out of the viewport. Whereas there had been one planet in the last system, there were this time two planetoids. One was small and rusty in colour with the look of a moon. The other one, around which the former orbited, had a bluish tint to it.
Sensors, Captain Huang ordered,I want a sensor scan on the larger planet. Maybe it is another planet we may colonise!
Sensor reports coming in. From what we can tell, the planet is primarily composed of a nitrogenous atmosphere. Without our biohazard equipment, life there would be impossible. But ooh. The content of the planet is mainly well, Im not sure. Sensors are sort of going haywire now; Im not getting a reading for it anymore.
Never mind that, what about the moon? Without biohazard suits, we cant get down there anyway.
Evidently the moon masses enough that it is able to hold in its own oxygen atmosphere. Not too much oxygen there. Seems to be that quite a bit of it has reacted with the mainly ferric crust.
Helm, takes us in. Communications, let the Emalghan Council of Elders know that weve located a new planet.
They landed on the moon, and began to set up a base camp. One Fighter remained on orbit with communications gear at all time.
Holmm System Captain Ridley and his fleet came out of hyperspace. Needless to say, the two different planets were a pleasant surprise when they saw them. In the same procedure as Huang, now known as Feghans policy, they put down on the habitable planet after sending a message to the Emalghan Council of Elders. There, they began to set up a base camp.

Sarn Treval couldn't help but be extremely nervous. A few days ago he had received word from Azdgari High Command that they had received some sort of message from the Miranu, and that he was required to launch an attack at a specific time on the Igadzra system. He, along with the larger fleet in the Nujja System commanded by Vice Admiral Bal'heron, were to launch a coordinated probe of the Igadzra System defenses. If the Miranu had followed through with their vague assurances it was possible that they would have some help in this attack... and from what he had heard from scouts in Ersadt, the Miranu had become a formidable fighting force. Of course, if the Miranu turned out to be lying... he and Bal'heron might have a disaster on their hands. Long range sensors in Pimre Station had detected nearly 500 Igadzra warships massed in the System, as well as what looked like stationary defenses near the outer edge of the gravity well. ----------------
Igadzra System
The two Azdgari Fleets from Nujja and Notil emerged from hyperspace at almost exactly the same instant. In a matter of seconds the Igadzra Orbital Defense Stations were on alert with their shields up and weapon systems ready. Seconds after that the entire Igadzra Navy was accelerating towards the invading Azdgari. At that moment something strange began to happen to the Igadzra ships... ----------
------------
Bolts of azure lightning began to arc across the hulls of the Igadzra ships, within seconds the EM Spike had disabled the entire Igadzra fleet.
Vice Admiral Nerus Bal'heron sat in stunned silence as he watched the mighty Igadzra Navy completely disabled by some kind of Electromagnetic weapon. In an instant this battle had been transformed from valiant suicide to a certain victory. With their Navy disabled the only things defending the Igadzra Capitol System were a few orbital defense system and one huge Igadzra Carrier.
As Bal'heron watched the huge carrier began to break orbit and head for his fleet, a message came over the com from General Treval. Vice Admiral Bal'heron... you must not let that carrier get anywhere near your ships, with the Igadzra Fleet disabled they will likely use the same type of suicide tactics we saw in Notil.
With a new sense of urgency, Bal'heron ordered his ships to scatter and stay as far away from the huge Carrier as possible. While the Igadzra might not have turned it into a bomb, their willingness and ability to use such a tactic had been shown at Notil and there was no reason to take unnecessary risks. Since even the slowest of the Azdgari ships could easily outstrip the huge Igadzra behemoth, it wouldn't be that hard for them to stay safe from any attack.
Free to go about the system as they pleased, the two Azdgari Fleets scattered and began igniting the Igadzra Orbital defenses in small groups of 5-10 Warships along with Arada and fighter support. They were always mindful to stay well away from the Igadzra Carrier.

Myrx entered the system in his Arada, and was followed by over a dozen warships and their fighter escorts. They landed in the far docking bay from which the warships had originally parked. Myrx met Neb as he jumped out of his ship. Neb had filled him in on the current research projects and their estimated date of completion.
They were walking around the edge of the spaceport, which was surrounded by forest. Occasionally some rehinser passed by or a fyrentiys swooped down in pursuit of small inghleqz. Myrx watched the wildlife as he and Neb discussed future expeditions that would hopefully better the Zidagar people. Both Neb and Myrx suggested a myriad of ideas; until they had worked a couple ideas together.
Attack, of course, was an inevitable course of action to take in this war. The difficult approach is to have a strong strategy, for if you have a poor strategic approach war; needless to say, you will fail. That is what Myrx and Neb had to take into consideration for such a long period of the day. After what seemed to be endless angles of attack and strategy of attack, they had decided on which they thought to be the best way to commence their plans.
They assembled the construction of warships from today, yesterday, the day before yesterday, the fleet remainder from the previous battle, and Myrx's Z.Missile Arada as a reasonable fleet. The crews were picked carefully, and their briefing turned out to not be so brief. It seemed like a long, new recruit lecture that Myrx and Neb had given them on the importance of this new mission. Finally, they were preparing the ships for take-off by making tune-ups and re-stocking them with their projectiles. An hour later, the fleet was exiting the planet. Neb, Myrx, and Nivad were all among the fleet. Neb was in a Zidara Mk.II, Nivad in a Z.Fighter, and Myrx was flying his Z.Missile Arada.
All along the side of the planet where the base was situated, Zidagar people discontinued from their normal routine to watch as the large mass of dozens of purple ships flew overhead. Nobody had seen that many ships leave the system since the start of the Strand War. A silence fell over many cities, as they pondered the reason for such an immense fleet; although their thoughts were not all the same. Some thought there must've been a large strike on a Zidagar world, others thought it was a large attack on one of the rival strands' homeworlds. As soon as the ships were out of view from the public, life returned and there was a large hustle and bustle; for many were now late for appointments.
Onboard, Myrx sent a message to the fleet, "All ships: Follow me! Our time of victory shall soon come to pass!" There was an audible roar of excitement from the crew memmbers, as he had finished those words. All ships entered the destination into their hyperspace computers. With a long stream of purple, the fleet had gone.

---- Motif
The SRLs Second Fleet entered the Motif system, and headed for the planet, transmitting a message.
"People of the Motif system, your government is unable to defend you against your enemies. From this time on, you are under the protection of the League. The League will ensure no harm comes to the people of this system."
The League fleet moved into orbit of the planet, a few of the Aradas going out and catching the drifting berserker mines, blowing up most of them. Once a few of the Aradas had safely secured some of the mines, they set off for Tibidat.
Once the Leagues fleet reached orbit, it began shuttling down troops to ensure the people of the system remained safe, and that no one caused any undue harm.

The Emalghan planet of Huang had a few scattered biosphere towns and cities. Though the population was only around 5 million, the planet was still growing rather rapidly. The low gravity of the moon made it perfect for the shipyard facilities it housed. The fact that they only produced one Emaghan Fighter per day and one Emalghan Defender every third day meant that they could take their time and make sure that nothing was going to go wrong on their ships. As a matter of fact, they usually triple checked every system. The ships that came from Swan were actually rather representative of the planets name; all the ships from Swan looked more graceful and artistic than any other Emalghan ships.
Emalghan Freighters, Defenders, and Warships of all sorts were ferrying the important biospheres from Tienna to Huang and Ridley. The ships would touch down only long enough to unfold the biospheres and set them up. Other ships would later add the parts, and slowly, like the pieces of a puzzle, the biospheres would be fit together. The citizens of the different biospheres would then weld them together, so that small villages would become towns, which in turn would become cities. On the surface of Ridley, there were already 5 cities containing about 2 million people each. Soon, the cities would be connected by magnetic train lines. Furthermore, each city had a corps of 10,000 Emalghan soldiers, and 2 Emalghan based ground turrets.
Ridleys shipyard was only slightly more productive than that of Huangs; she produced 1 Fighter every day and 1 Defender every other day. However, since there was more room for the shipyards to expand on Ridley than Huang, the shipyards on Ridley would soon have the capacity to produce an Emalghan Carrier every third day.

South Tip Conclave
Varian turned to Reve Ashak upon the question of the League representative, whose name, he had learnt, was Tynakiur. (OOC: fine, I give you a name for him, you say you'll use it, and then you don't!) "Indeed, that is matter that requires some discussion... three-way discussion, as it happens. Our relations with the Miranu still require solidification."
"The Conclave already wishes to offer a pact of brotherhood with the Miranu," Varian continued, addressing Ashak. "More commonly, this would be known as an alliance, I suppose, though perhaps somewhat... more intimate? ...than you might be willing to deal with, I'm afraid, Councillor Ashak. Our favoured terms are a complete exchange of all technology, military and non-military, free use of each other's ports and the sharing of all government and military databases. If this is unacceptable, we will have to come to some other terms."
He turned back to Tynakiur. "Previously, we felt that not enough was known about the League for such a decision to be made, though your answers will without a doubt satisfy the Conclave. There are those within the Conclave who view you as less trustworthy than the Miranu, however, and as such we will be unable to offer you the blueprints for all our technologies just yet. Once confirmation of the diplomatic relations comes from Akrayhek, I'll be able to offer you photonic technology, our latest development in primary weapons power, immediately. I understand that out work on the graviton membrane, a secret project, has completed, though we will not be giving you the blueprints immediately. It is not my decision, but we would rather see more of your actions in this galaxy before we send anything more." Not my decision... Varian laughed inside his head. Well, let us see what the League do... a pity democracy prevents me from doing more as I would wish.
Since the abolishment of the renegades in the South Tip, the Conclave's war machine had begun to wind down slowly. While no shipyards were closed down entirely, resources were redirected to other purposes in the interest of improving the life of STC citizens, with the ideals of a relative utopia in sight. The main negative effect of this change were such that fleet production output would be halved while the operation was in effect. While potentially meaning that the Conclave's fleet would be outnumbered in any later engagements that may occur, the improvements in industry would hopefully counteract that on a long term.
The available resources were to be redirected to the improvement of residences and public facilities across the Conclave's three colonised planets, as well as a marked increase in industrial output, particularly on Obutes, whose industrial capacity had been wrecked in numerous battles both before and during the Conclave's occupation of the moon. The direct result of this is that all productions, either through the Conclave's official production line or via Navis Synthesis, begun from this point on would be completed more quickly. The surplus resources available could be put to various uses: ones believed to be likely are a "gift" to allied nations or the boosted production of ships when the emphasis is changed again. There has also been some mention of the surplus resources stockpiled being very useful for the construction of any very large ships at a later point in time.

Infinity Threshold 2 S-S Energy; researching into the application of energies in sub-space, and how it might be possible to utilise it. The results of this technology will be:-
The ability to design an S-S energy reactor. The ability to develop sub-spacial weaponry, which taps into sub-space and makes a "similarity" (OOC: not singularity!) between the two dimensions, outputting waves of sub-spacial energy. The ability to later implement this to make a sub-space energy shield of sorts, which is thought to likely possess outstanding regeneration (at the price of durability.) Any number of any other sub-space technologies.
Saga of the Guild: Chapter 26
Neve Ashak twitched almost imperceptibly at the Conlave's offer. He pondered the wisdom of turning cloaking technology over to the Conclave, but reminded himself of the great boon the photonic weaponry had given to the Mirnau Defense Fleet. He turned to face Varian, and spoke.
"This course of action is acceptable, if somewhat...thorough. The Miranu will proceed to transmit to the Halls of the Conclave the complete technical readouts of all our research and technology at this time, and will provide the Conclave with updates as our pact progresses. We expect the same from the Conclave in this matter. The Miranu Star League thanks you for this offer, which we hereby agree to."
DSN-1469
The Miranu negotiator spoke to his Emalgha acquaintance. "The Miranu are willing to open negotiations with you, and we posit that a technology exchange is a worthy beginning in our relationships. If we were to provide you with the technology to build the pursuit missile, would the Emalgha be willing to share with us knowledge of equal value?" The Miranu negotiator awaited a reply.
The Miranu boarding parties were still busy assaulting the disabled Igadzra defense force. Meanwhile, the Miranu soldiers assaulting the planet reported the last resistence had subsided except for a particularly zealous region on the easter seaboard of the main continent. The Miranu then proceeded to land engineering crews to establish Miranu ancillary defenses to bolster the captured Igadzra defense installations. On Mira, the new services reported the addition of another system to the Star League.
The Miranu, after completing the subjugation of Lapsin, now allowed many Igadzra citizens to leave for the core worlds. The Miranu greeted those Igadzra who remained as their friends, and the force guarding Threefrog departed for Ragni. The force guarding Ersadt replaced the Threefrog force, with a new Miranu fleet being placed in Ersadt.

United Earth Confederacy Deep in hyperspace...
Aboard the Nidhogg , Alexander Marshall, captain of the Riders of Midgard , one of the most successful UE fleets on the renegade front, was sat at the captains seat on the command bridge, watching intently as trans-spacial energy readings in the Pariah system - five days ago - were translated into a monochrome visual battlefield on the main screen. He remained baffled as to why the system was so undefended. When the readings had been taken from the Farseer the nickname given to Hurons long-range sensors, it had read that only four ships were in the system: two Helians, a scoutship and a cargo transporter, and none of them in any apparent formation or organisation. Logic suggested that they were independant merchants, and had little to no ties with the renegades. But that meant that the renegade base on New Alcatraz was all but undefended, and Marshall was still concerned about that.
When the news had arrived, of course, Marshall had been the first to suggest a heavy raid on the system by the Riders of Midgard. There was, of course, the probability of the lack of defences being a feint: it was strategically possible to leave the system undefended, and when long-range sensors on New Alcatraz detected the movement of a fleet in their direction, to return their fleet to position from a single hyperjump away, arriving before the attackers. This had indeed been pointed out, of course, but Marshall had quickly seen through it. It was impossible. There were no systems beyond Pariah: the only star system one hyperlink away was Troub, and both sensors and scouts had returned news that there was no renegade battlefleet hiding away there. As Troub was the only hyperlink out of Pariah, there was no way to manoeuvre the tactic. Besides, Marshall had noted, the renegades had never displayed that level of strategy in all the years of fighting them.
Of course, it wasnt just that. The energy maelstrom that long-range sensors on Iothe had detected in the Riomor system had been reported to the UE, of course, the message arriving at the Nidhogg several hours ago. Sensors on Iothe werent as advanced as the Farseer was, but they suggested in excess of two hundred vessels in the system, and a chaos of energy disturbances. They also reported, astonishingly, that Riomor now lay empty - Freeport was gone. Everything put together, there could be no doubting that the renegades were falling to some outside threat.
The reasoning behind raiding New Alcatraz was simple. Pariah was somewhat removed from Yelts and Riomor - it was a four day journey in a fast-jumper to Yelts, eight days to move a fleet, and through Hatuli. Not that Hatuli presented anything of a threat to any renegade ships that wanted to pass through, of course. However, whoever was attacking the renegades in Riomor and presumedly Yelts may not even know of the existence of Pariah, leaving the renegades the opportunity to survive when the best chance of eliminating them had been presented ever since they formed. In addition, Voinian intelligence had always seemed surprisingly accurate for a xenophobic nation, and thus the colonisation of a new system, far away from the frontier, and a complete military secret, could be invaluable - the Voinians would not even be able to factor it in.
Eventually, Marshalls argument had won over, although he had started with very little support. It was thus that he was here now, at the bridge of his UE destroyer, leading a UE squadron of fourteen other destroyers and thirty three supporting fighters - the Riders of Midgard , save for the five carriers when which twenty five of the fighters had came (all of the fighters had been upgraded with hyperdrives, the funding coming from independant bounties on particular renegades.) The Nidhogg was at the vanguard of the triangular formation, and would be the first to enter into the Pariah system, in... Marshall closed the battlefield window, and checked the time of re-entry into realspace. Fourteen minutes.
Zack, Kim, Marshall called out to the chief weapons and tactical officers, respectively. Warm up the blazors, and prepare for an immediate scanner sweep upon re-entry. Blazors being the pet name for blaze weaponry in the military, of course. Were going in.
Pariah, 0245 ECT
The fabric that made up the space-time continuum bent sharply in over fifty specific places across the system, matching similar bends in hyperspace so that the two points converged, sending out ripples in both dimensions, a soundless screech in the infinite depths of space. Light bent around the new occupants of realspace, revealing fourty eight spacecraft in red and grey: fifteen destroyers and thirty three fighters, registering as the Riders of Midgard , a United Earth Federation secondary frontier fleet, based at Huron. To the renegades, it might as well have been ten thousand alien invaders out of the planet Zog, for all the good it would do them - the Pariah system was devoid of any trace of activity, not even merchants.
Even though they had been expecting it, the UE taskforce was to the man disappointed that they apparently met no resistance at all, not even an independant criminal to detain. Breaking their triangle rank, fighters streaked off towards the areas in the system where the fabric of realspace was soft, allowing transference into hyperspace, while the destroyers, led by the Nidhogg , moved swiftly into the high orbit of New Alcatraz. They were met by a hail of needle missiles launched from silos down on the planet, and in brutally efficient response, the destroyers launched a number of hunter missiles, solid bullets that entered the upper atmosphere of New Alcatraz at high velocity, leaving sharp white trails behind them as they descended down onto missile silos, their fusion warheads detonating. Rockets exploded from their launchers, their more devastating payload ravaging the planets silos.
Short work was made of the majority of missile defences on the planet, and then in perfect co-ordination, the destroyers fired out spherical pods down onto the planet, and then moved out to replace the fighters, which raced each other into the lower atmosphere of the planet. Within a matter of minutes, the squadon of fighters in the Riders of Midgard was strafing through the stratosphere, targetting and eliminating key targets on the surface. Blazing bullets exploded in a plume of plasma which engulfed various ground facilities, while the pods the destroyers had launched, occupying their cargo space, completed their rapid descent by firing retro-thrusters, making contolled while rather messy landings in specific places. The pods opened, and hundreds of ground mechanoids burst out, chainguns already thrashing at the renegades ground defences.
The raid specifically targetted the defences and industry on New Alcatraz, and while the renegade defenders seriously outnumbered the UE mechanoids, the UE forces, with their heavy chainguns and shoulder-mounted rocket launchers, dealt considerable damage to the planets ecostructure while the fighters made short work of the defences.
After half an hour of intense ground fighting, all but the most minor of fixed defences on New Alcatraz were eliminated, along with half of its industry and ship production. The UE ground forces were beginning to be overwhelmed, but quickly returning to a last stand position around their respective landing pods, open like flowers in bloom (but with a full-blown ship-class blaze turret on the pod backing up the mechs.) They were quickly swarmed.
Meanwhile, the United Earth fighters pulled back into high orbit, where the renegades had no means of damaging them, and after waiting several more minutes for an extensive scanner sweep of the planet of New Alcatraz to be drawn (logging all the damages caused for report), the Riders of Midgard folded realspace around them and were swept into hyperspace, for Huron, while the remnants of the UE ground robots made their stand.
Hyperspace, headed for Troub
Status report? Marshall requested coolly of his strategic officer. Kim Whight quickly complied, bringing up all relevant fleet data on the three screens.
No fleet losses. Some minor damages to the Nidhogg and four other destroyers, repairs will be completed within the hour, Kim reported, her voice clear of emotion.
And the fighters? Marshall asked. No fleet losses was good, but hed seen some of the fighters in pretty battered shape after the strato-strafing.
Six of them are in need of immediate servicing, theyre wrecks. Nineteen more are critically damaged but will be able to repair themselves by the time we reach Huron. Marshall nodded. Not too bad, overall. He had worried that one or two would not be able to make it back to Huron... that wasnt exactly a lost fighter, as it was usually possible to organise a crash landing on Troub and send some ships to repair it on the line, but it was difficult. He wanted the Riders of Midgard to be ready for another attack as soon as possible, and this time, not a raid. From how decisive the raid on New Alcatraz had been, Captain Alexander Marshall had decided that he was going to have to convince his superiors on Huron to send him off on a greater mission soon - he idly wondered what sort of bounties and prestige his squadron would get from clearing every corner of Hatuli from the renegades, or making a daring attack on Yelts. Anything was possible. And of course, once the renegades were dealt with, and his name mentioned to the United Earth admirals, a promotion to the Voinian front was not just possible, but quite likely.
High orbit over Paaren
The empty shell of Paaren station floated in the orbit of Paaren, the second capital of the United Earth Confederacy, undying evidence of how humanity was becoming increasingly able to fund even vital military operations in such an age. Fighting on two fronts fifty light years apart, and hardly with the most stable of governments, the UE had originally intended to build Paaren station as a joint defence, research and dry-dock facility for the planet of Paaren, should Earth fall to the Voinians. It had been a grand operation, albeit a desperate one. Paaren station was originally planned to be a fortress matching and surpassing the Voinian outposts in Avann and Vorik, an impenetrable barrier that would keep invaders at bay and protect the people of Paaren.
The project had been cancelled. Specifically, it had been cancelled half a dozen years ago, and the funding had been used to construct more shipyards on Earth and a missile defence network for Outpost Alpha. Now, with the Voinian border quiet and the renegades mysteriously crippled by unidentified attackers, UE funding was free for such fancies as Paaren station.
It was such that a convoy of freighters, guarded by fifteen fighters operating out of Paaren (guarded even in Valos, one of the safest UE systems), surrounded the station, tiny automated space construction vehicles lumbering between their freighters and the incompleted station, working on the internal structure. A shuttlecraft zipped out from Paaren, carrying within its hull a fully functional shield generator capable of sustaining the station - not the final one, of course. Docking with station, two UE pilots exitted the shuttlecraft into the zero grav. environment of deep space. Two more followed, and they quickly went about setting up the shield generator. An energy field blinked into existence around the station.
There was much to do. The station would need to have its corridors, chambers, ventilation shafts, etc. all completed, as currently many ended abruptly in a surreal fashion to any astronauts navigating the myriad corridors of the open-to-space Paaren station. After that, more permanent reactors and shield generators would need to be moved into position - a small interim generator had only been powered up so that the station would not be further damaged by stardust - and then an artificial grav. field module would need to be installed. After that, the progress could continue along more basic lines - furnishing the entire inside of the formidable station, and arming it.
An estimated time of completion had been sent to the UE government, suggesting that the entire station would be operational and manned within five weeks. This included fully automated dry-dock shipyards, capable of churning out not only fighters, but also destroyers (it would be the first human station large enough to construct a destroyer) non-stop, as well as a research facility that would become the centre of the UEs R&D; team. Defences were also being built on the surface of Paaren, ready to be installed: this included fourty eight ship-class blaze turrets, and sixteen hunter missile launchers mounted on four separate swivelling platforms, as well as sufficient defence turrets to lace the entire inside of the station so that at least two of the turreted ceiling-mounted chainguns would be able to hit any target, anywhere on the station.
Paaren station wasnt the only pioneering project across UE space, however. Light years away, in Talii, a world and nation famous ship designer, Anna Balashova, was busy working on the designs for her latest and greatest masterpiece. Designed not under highly stressful and rushed conditions, her new plan - the UE cruiser - was more crafted and moulded than thrown together to provide a quick and effective solution.
Priat For the record, Rei Mishima was not bad at his job, as such. At the age of twenty six, he had been awarded a civilian award for extreme bravery and prowess, after getting on the wrong side of a Turncoat in the Hatuli system, and coming out of the fight (in which he piloted a scoutship) with an about equal outcome: both ships disabled. The Turncoat, apparently, had belonged to an infamous pirate in the area, and by Mishima disabling the craft, UE officers were able to detain the pirate and convict him. He wasnt bad at his job, exactly, but he was something of a maverick. It was said that he didnt turn and run from the Turncoat for the sole reason that turning and running; was so conformist (to put it in his words.) He was perhaps the most reckless scoutship merchant alive at that time, but also being one of the best pilots, he had found his way into the UEs official space exploration program, much to his early joy and later dismay.
However, Rei Mishima wasnt cursed to spend months exploring deep space with hyperdrives inactive, or spending years travelling at cruise speed to systems with no hyperlinks, or logging data on the Oort Cloud or its equivalent in systems other than Sol. Mishima had struck lucky with just about the best exploration mission there was: not out towards Voinian space (which was practically suicide), or in the direction of the renegades (not much better), but to what was referred to as the 2D galactic north (the north on a two-dimensional galactic map, that is.) Rumour said that the north was a land of opportunity. Rumour said that such an exploration mission was like striking gold.
The reason some might doubt Mishimas capability as an explorer was such that, his mission was to cut to the galactic west after two or three hyperlinks north of Saalia, and explore any weakpoints to the the Voinian frontier. That wasnt quite what he was doing. On a whim, Mishima had entered the system logged on UE computers as DSN-1304 (which he would soon discover was called Smott by the nearest alien species to that system) and decided to go a different direction, one no-one had ever bothered going before because there had been no point.
And that was how Rei Mishima, a man who represented the UE about as much as the village idiot represents a village, became the first human recorded by the UE to meet with the Miranu. As his scoutship entered realspace in a whirlpool of spacial flux, barrel rolling off to the side dramatically, prepared to escape any danger, Mishima was confronted by ships of a kind he had never seen before in his life, ships that were not human.
Uhh... hello? This is...umm... Mishima paused, wondering if the message he sent to the nearest alien vessel would even be understood. Too late to stop now. This is Rei Mishima of the United Earth Confederacys deep space exploration program. Ah... who is this? Do you read?
There was a brief pause as the alien ship - not, actually, a Miranu Star League vessel but rather an independant merchant - attempted to translate the language, and found the language already in computer logs under mythology: Earth people. The Miranu had, of course, visited Earth some time previously, though the merchant captain was quite surprised to learn that the story about that was actually true. I am Chiun Kadaza, a Miranu. It is interesting to meet a new species, but I am afraid that I cannot be of much help to you, as I am not a registered Miranu Star League vessel. If you wish to contact our government, feel free to hail the station. Your message will be re-directed to the appropriate department.
The advice was not necessary, as the appropriate department had already hailed him. Nervous, Mishima accepted the hail...

The operation to upgrade blaze weaponry with fusion reactors had proven to be not quite as effective as originally hoped. After some debate between the UE congress and the military, in which the military held precedence, the concept was altered slightly. UE vessels were to be refitted with fusion reactors, which would be enhanced and altered for shipboard operations, which would improve power to shields by 35% and drive power by 27.5%, while blaze weaponry would be altered along similar but slightly different lines. Rather than using fusion reactors to charge the blaze bullets, they would be modified with a tiny fusion-based warhead, based on the Voinian rocket. Effectively, blaze weaponry was becoming fusion bolt weaponry, although it was expected that for most purposes, the name would remain as the existing blaze bullets would not have to be altered. The fusion bolts would use exactly the same cannons to fire, and present no change in range, reload, et cetera, but would be about 60% more powerful. In addition, the fusion firepower was expected to provide quite a punch to blaze weaponry, increasing its impact significantly, to the extent that fighters and other light craft would be particularly handicapped against massed fusion bolts.
Even while the fusion reactor was being perfected and prepared to be refitted on all UE vessels, it was realised that the reactor had some considerable potential for improvement, and that after the current fusion reactors were installed into craft, it may be worthwhile to attempt to perfect the design. The particular advantage of this would be an increase in both shielding and engine power at the same time, and in addition it was suggested that a more powerful fusion reactor may be able to power a pulse laser many times more powerful than anything the UE had used in the past.

The Zidagar system had been left in commabd of Viojed, a young seargent, since Myrx, Neb, and Nivad are currently in hyperspace. Viojed was in his office, daydreaming, when a scientist burst into the room.
"I have great news, sir! The upgraded version of the ECM has been finished! It should be able to scramble more guided missiles up to 60% more effectively than the older version. Upon your order we will test it, but I believe it will work magnificently," the scientist had said all of this without pausing once for a breath of air. Viojed was surprised that the scientist's breating was normal after all that. Viojed was about two years older than Nivad, who was one of the youngest officers in the last century, though he acted much older than many of the older officers. He followed the enthusiastic scientist to a large, closed off, hangar. They walked up a set of stairs and reached a small overlook, with glass to protect from the research that goes on.
Viojed looked out the glass at the hangar they just came through, and there were people bringing in missiles and targets that had the ECM system attached. The scientist could hardly stand still, he was so fired up about the test run of the ECM. When they had set up the missiles and the targets, the scientist had beckoned eagerly that he stand at his side. To Violed's right, there was a control panel covered with buttons, knobs, switches, and displays for various read-outs.
"We are all ready for the demonstration, just wait a minute for us to make the hangar a zero gravity environment. The first projectile we will use is the SAD." The scientist was playing around with a hand-held device with a couple buttons and a screen. He had sent a message to the crew outside of which projectile to use first.
The bright-green, ball-shaped projectile flew in the direction of a target with a loud bang. He watched as the SAD sped towards the target; though, just before it made contact, the SAD streamed to side and away from the target. The scientists that were nearby started clapping wildly. This went on for a few hours. Each projectile was used about ten times. Around eight out of ten projectiles were sent in a different direction, with some better and some worse.
The old ECMs were scheduled to be replaced with the new ones in a matter of days.

Internal Development Report Work on the shield interdiction device has been completed, with tests showing it to be effective at destroying traditional munitions. While unable to destroy significant proportions of incoming projectiles, the technology wil allow the Leagues faster ships to survive in encounters where they would have previously died. The Leagues larger will be able to survive slightly longer with this technology, but to be effective, ECM systems will need to be deployed.
The beserker mine technology of the Igadzras that has been captured is being looked at, and the league expects to be able to duplicate the technology fairly soon.
With the completion of this project, the League is continuing to look at defensive technologies. Research has therefore begun on a shield variation. Normal shields are projected in a close in bubble around a ship, leaving a gap between the shield grid and actual hull. The League is looking to generate a secondry shield grid that forms to a ships hull. While not intended to be as strong as the main grid, the shield is expected to reduce damage to a ships hull significantly, allowing even ships with a thin hull to survive in combat when they would not normally do so. For larger ships, the technology would allow time for the main grid to regenerate.

Neslaut Facility Report With construction of the prototype Warship being constructed out of the new material proceeding well, several items have come to light. The first is that while traditional shipos can be built with the material, it fails to make full use of the materials properties. Thus it is recomended that a new ship type be researched. Secondly, tests of the material with various energy sources have shown it resonates in interesting ways, suggesting further use in the future. Thirdly, current projections show the Warship being built will be able to easily survive conditions that would destroy a traditional Warship within seconds
Now that the Warship is in its final construction stages, the first item is being looked at, and general plans for it are expected soon.
Afen
The Afen system was deserted of military ships. That is, apart from those of the League. Moving in quickly, the league ships repeated what they had done in Motif. The only differnece this time was the League moved a lot faster, and began setting up weapon emplacements on the planet. The League wanted to make sure no one could harm the 2 colonies, especially the previous protectors of the system.

Huron
Captain Marshall had returned from the sortie against New Alcatraz two days previously, leading the Riders of Midgard after the raid. His reception had been... interesting, there was no doubt about that. A UE officer based at Huron had since returned from Iothe, after inspecting the long-range sensors to prove that they were in good condition and to verify the rumours. Apparently, they were quite true. The Riomor system was uninhabited - Freeport was gone - and almost three weeks ago now, there had been a large number of vessels entering the system, and a battle had commenced. Half of the attackers, apparently, had not registered as vessels, but the sensor operators on Iothe had been positive that they were so. The other half had registered as alien in origin, and apparently highly advanced technologically.
Since he had made landfall, Marshall had been confronted with a series of questions about the raid on New Alcatraz, specifically the layout of the renegade defences and any signs of odd factories and construction facilities whose purpose was unknown. Very few of the officers he had spoken to seemed to consider the sortie much of a success, despite the heavy damages to the colonys ecostructure and defence net. It was understandable: victories were gauged in the number of enemy vessels destroyed, typically, and there had been none.
His official debriefing turned out to be little better. Alexander Marshall and his second-in-command, Jon Ross sat on two plain chairs in front of a semi-circle of higher seats: assorted superiors within the military, mainly colonels.
And you came across no signs of anything out of the ordinary on New Alcatraz? asked one of the colonels, a square-faced man with a permanently stern face.
Nothing was reported, no, Marshall replied calmly. I wasnt under orders to perform a major examination of the planets surface.
What about the planets industrial activity? All as would be normally expected? the colonel pressed.
As I said, Marshall said, stifling a sigh, I wasnt under orders to take any particular note. Our sensor logs dont report anything out of the ordinary, but they are not particularly in-depth as far as examining industrial activity goes. The colonel opened his mouth, about to ask another question, no doubt, and then closed it and nodded. Quite insistent on finding the answers to their questions, even if it meant asking unnecessary questions en route, but hardly stupid, any of them.
Good work, on the whole, Captain, a white-haired veteran officer declared after a moment of silence. He was Admiral Jameson, supreme commander of activities on the renegade front. It was said that he went grey three weeks after being promoted to the position, on account of how frustratingly difficult it often was. His attitude to this sudden turn of events was equal parts relief and suspicion. Im sure youll be glad to know, the Riders of Midgard are being assigned a new mission, to set off within the week.
Marshall permitted himself a small smile. He had established some reputation with the admiral, at least, and that was what mattered. May I ask what my target is to be?
A reconnaissance mission, Captain, Jameson replied without emotion. You will make your way to Riomor, eliminating all renegade and pirate vessels at your discretion. Take extensive sensor readings of the Riomor system, to find any clue about Freeport - long-range sensors on Iothe dont seem to register the sort of explosion that Freeport would have gone out with, so the best we have is that its been moved or hidden. You are then to hold position in Riomor while the Star Dragoons move into position, and then commence a simultaneous assault on Yelts. Marshall blinked. It wasnt perfect - the back-up of the Star Dragoons , another UE squadron, would dampen the prestige he would gain, but it was still a sound, daring plan.
Mopping up any possible reinforcements and then moving in for the kill, Marshall noted. Will we need to lug along our carriers for this mission?
The missile back-up could provide quite useful. Id like Ross to lead the carriers as an escort for Star Dragoon. Riders of Midgard have a longer flight, so youre better off with only lighter vessels for the beginning, Jameson responded.
Any knowledge on what well be facing?
From the losses the renegades faced in Riomor, all we can assume is that it wont be their full force. But it could come pretty damn close, Ill say. Be on your guard. Possibly the entire renegade force, against two UE squadrons. Well, it was time to roll the dice, and if Gorky could be taken out, then only the invasion of New Alcatraz stood between the UE and having one frontier clear.
Right. And what about Gorky?
Four carriers from Fenrir are being loaded with landing pods. Theyll carry 75,000 marines and 24,000 mechanoids in stasis. Theyll arrive fourty minutes into the battle; hopefully, youll be clear by then. The fighting on Gorky might be a little tough - we reckon they might have as many as 500,000 partizans - but well be relying on the fighters in Riders of Midgard and Star Dragoon to provide all the necessary cover.
Discussion of the plans to attack Yelts, and the specifics of the patrol through Hatuli and Riomor continued for three hours, and upon leaving, Marshall quickly informed all the crewmembers of the Riders of Midgard that they were to leave within two days, for Riomor.
After several hours debating within the UE Congress, over the matter of the Voinians - the Voinians , asking for peace - a conclusion was eventually reached, though grudgingly on some parts, and a message was composed as quickly as was possible. It did take time, of course, for the message to be read by all the appropriate officials before it could be actually sent.

We are amused by your request, Voinian. Over the past decades, you have attempted to enslave our people, you have killed tens of thousands of our people and caused the suffering of countless millions. You have commited unspeakable crimes against us in your insane megalomania. What is more, we know that this is not an isolated account: you have enslaved innumerable species to further your own evil ends. And now, you expect us to stay our hand? You expect us to sit back and give you respite while you continue to oppress others? What do you take us for? We do not believe that you are changing your ways: we know exactly what your kind is. We know exactly what you trying to do here, and we will not see it happen.
The UE is an alliance of the vast majority of humanity, the strongest and largest singular government of our species ever to come into being, and we are here today because of your crimes against us. We will not stay our hand, and we will not allow you to escape justice.
Go to hell. This war can have only one end.

Paaren Station
Work on Paaren Station continued, with great leaps in progress being made. Dozens of space construction vehicles whizzed in and out of the station, fusing components onto the outside of the station. With an artificial grav. field module now equipped, along with a temporary shield network, workers began to stream onto the station, continuing work. The interior framework was now basically completed, and soon the power core and various other components would be installed.
One large freighter made its lumbering path towards the docks of Paaren Station. Docking clamps locked into place as it settled down, and the huge cargo doors slid open. With perfect efficiency, dozens of workers streamed out from the station, with two skeletal mechanoids trailing them. Life support modules were lifted out of the cargo bay by the mechanoids, and carried within the station. The workers scattered, quickly gathering a myriad of devices and leaving the docks for the station, quietly going about their tasks. A mechanical crane saw that larger devices were set down out of the freighters cargo bay, and then, after only fifteen minutes, the freighters engines powered up and it went about the journey back to Earth.
While still a dull grey, deathly quiet, apparently open to space (the shields keeping the atmospheric conditions reasonable) heap of metal, Paaren Station was quickly moving towards a rather delayed birth.

---------- Mindule heard his comm link beep, and listened. It was not from the scientist.
"Sir, all Igadzra forces in Igadzra are disabled. We believe it is the Miranu's doing, with their repulsor/tractor weapons." Mindule cursed and yelled so loud, it took a minute before the man on the other end to respond. Finally, Mindule talked again.
"I want you to brind every civillian on Igadzra to the abandoned ship. My scientists will tell you what to do from there. After everyone is gone, detonate everything." He turned the frequency to the scientists back on Igadzra again.
"The Gadzair has told me that the teleport can also lead to another place." He handed the link to the Gadzair, who spoke in the Ancient language to the translater. After about three minutes, there was a response.
"Okay, now everything that comes through this teleporter will go to another galaxy." Mindule sighed, and turned back to the Gadzair. The only three people that had gone through the teleporter at first were Mindule, the Gadzair, and another translater. The Gadzair spoke.
"Juzt in caze your wondering, my name iz Zeken. Now, when you have tranzported all of your people to the other galaxy, we will be taking zome of the technology left of the station, and then we will leave with them." Mindule nodded. ---------- 2 hour later
After the two hours of every Igadzran running to one of the teleporters (there were about 25 of them on the ship) they were all finally through. Mindule and the Gadzair went back to Igadzra, while the translater scientist looked around the station for any tech that could be used. ---------- Igadzra The entire planet was almost empty. The only people left where Azdgari prisoners, because the Igadzra has taken the Zidagar with them, thanks to the new peace between the two races.
Out in orbit, a lot of the platforms had been destroyed. Mindule sent a message up to the fleet, and to the systems of Azdgari and Miranu. ---------- To: Azdgari, Miranu From: Emperor Mindule "We will be back, and you will regret your actions. To the Miranu, we thought we could trust you. You will burn in hell as well." end ---------- Suddenly, a few minutes after Mindule stepped through the teleporter carrying the designs for the Phase Blaster and Igzara, and the almost finished plans for the Graviton beam, there was a beeping all over the planet. The hundreds of thousands of mines were getting ready to detonate, and most of them had been drilled deep into the crust of the planet. Every other weapon that had the capability to explode, every fuel tank, and every unused missile were also burried underneath the crust. In space, hundreds upon hundreds of escape pods were flying away from their ships. Soon, the pods shot into hyperspace, heading for Zidagar space to take refuge. After all pods were gone, the Carrier, who was drifting near the enemies fleet, exploded, along with every mine and missile. The orbital platforms also exploded, with every disabled Igadzra ship. The Azdgari commander watched in horror as the planet was soon covered in fire. There wasn't even time for a retreat. The planets surface superheated, and then it cracked. Lava spewed all over the surface of Igadzra, and it destroyed every settlement. The Azdgari prisoners screamed in pain, as they were engulfed by the liquid fire. Far in space, the Carrier and other ships self-destructed, just out of glory The battle for Igadzra was over. ---------- When Mindule stepped out of the building, he looked around at the strange new world. He turned to Zeken, who had stepped out just before him. Zeken had finally found an ear translator, and could understand Igadzran.
"Where are we?" Zeken smiled.
"We are on the planet of Riazdag." Mindule smirked.
"Clever name. Are any of your people still alive here?" Zeken looked down.
"No... they are all dead. Long ago, my people and another ancient race had a huge battle. We ended up deztroying each other. Before our entire race waz dead, we zent zome of uz through a teleportantion device to the place you call Council Station. We cloned ourzelfz in many different wayz, zo that at leazt zome of uz wouldn't be dead forever. Aparently, the Igadzra and Azdgari verzionz of uz were the most zuccezful." Mindule interrupted him.
"Actually, the Zidagar survived too. But I think that's it."
"Three of our racez zurvived? Amazing. But no, no one iz alive but me... I had a mate, do you remember her in the zleep chamber?" Mindule felt instantly sorry for Zeken, and nodded solemnly. They both started walking, following the huge mass of Igadzrans. While Mindule felt terrible about all of the Igadzrans left in the homeland, the Igadzra would live on. ---------- Days later, the scientist on Council Station came to Riazdag. He looked grim as he walked up to Mindule, who was overseeing the building of a small colony.
"I couldn't find anything but the technology for the teleporter. I'm sorry."
"It's okay, my friend. But did you shut off the teleporter on the Station?" The scientist cackled.
"Not exactly. I managed to get every weapon on the station to think that the Azdgari and the Miranu are enemies, and should be destroyed. Also, I set a bomb to explode just after I went through the teleporter." ---------- Mindule sat on a large hill alone, thinking. He thought about the Igadzra that were left behind. Though about the new world he was on. Thought about how much he hated the Azdgari and Miranu. He stood up, and as he walked walking down, back to the new village of Igadzra, he grunted under his breath an oath of hatred.
"We will kill the aliens. To this, I swear..." ---------- The Igadzra on all of the other planets decided to do the Azdgaris bidding, or be killed disobeying. Also, all of the northern systems that were still left were given to the Zidagar.

OOC: Grundy, I had a talk with Esponer and we agreed that it is pretty much impossible for you to destroy an entire planet in the manner you describe, much less an entire system. Basicly, this is what we agreed would probably happen. --------------
As the last Igadzra Orbital Defense Station exploded under massed Dispersal Rocket fire from a flight group of Azdgari Aradas, something strange began to happen on the Igadzra homeworld. As Vice Admiral Bal'eron and General Treval watched in silent horror, the entire surface of the planet began to erupt in gouts of crimson flame. A great shockwave spread across the planet consuming everything in it's path. In a matter of hours everything on Igadzra was dead, every animal, every building, nothing remained.
------------- Several Days Later
While the Igadzra had saved the Azdgari the trouble of pacifying their homeworld, the huge disabled fleet that was now floating around the system presented a completly different problem. While almost all of the systems on the ships were completly shorted out, the over 400 Igadzra ships could potentialy make the Azdgari the most powerful race in the galaxy. Azdgari speed and cunning coupled with Igadzra strength.
It had been decided that the crippled Igadzra fleet would need to be captured, then refitted with Azdgari technology like PDS Batteries, Phase Burst Cannons, and Enhanced Shiled Generators. Over the next few days Azdgari Space Marines would be boarding the disabled Igadzra ships, capturing them, and then taking them to outfitters in azdgari Space to be refitted. ----------------- Meanwhile, in the Afen System
When the Azdgari Fleet under Vice Admiral Bal'heron had come out of hyperspace the only opposition they had expected to find was a few disgruntled and suspicious Igadzra. Bal'heron was understandably annoyed, however, when his sensors picked up the presence of a small battle group in orbit around Croo. Their IFF's identefying them as the "Strandless Redemption League," they appeared to be using heavily modified Crecent ships. As if their presence weren't annoying enough, scans indicated that they had begun to set up surface defenses to solidify control of the system.
After only a few seconds of hesitation, Bal'heron ordered his ships to intercept the SRL ships. At the same time he sent a message to the interloping ships.
(--Open Channel Broadcast--) SRL Ships, this is Vice Admiral Bal'heron of the Azdgari Imperial Navy. This system has been claimed as part of our conquest of the Igadzra. We have not fought this war for centuries only to have our rightful conquests taken from us by a pack of squaters. You have 3 Galactic Standard Hours to leave this system peacfully. After that consider your government at war with the Azdgari Empire. (--Transmission ends--)
With that the Azdgari halted their advance and waited for a reply.

The Azdgari fleet under the command of General Treval faced almost exactly situation as in Afen. They too had issued an ultimatum for the SRL ships, and just as in Afen, patiently waited for a response.

Admiral Narhalis looked at the Azdgari demand, and the fleet facing him. The sensor data from Norhis showed the Azdgari had also entered there and with a sizable fleet as well. He couldnt decide what to do on his own, it would affect the whole League.
Tibidat The League representative looked down as his datapad beeped. Looking over it quickly, he raised his eyes to look at the Miranu and Conclave representatives.
"While you would not know, having been talking here, the League moved to protect the southern Igadzra systems when they withdrew their fleet. Securing the systems presented no problems, the populace of the systems thankful for some protection. However, a few hours after picking up a massive disturbance in the Igadzra system, seemingly a massive explosion that destroyed the surface of the Igadzra homeworld shortly after the Azdgari entered the system, the Azdgari entered the syste,s under our protection and demanded they be turned over, under threat of war. Under the Leagues laws, and our promise to the people of these systems, the League can not withdraw without breaking its codes. The Azdgari have already shown they are ready to destroy Igadzra outposts in the past, and the League can not risk the Igadzra being in danger.
"For the League, I now ask your governments for assistance in repelling the Azdgari invasion. Any assistance would be appreciated to repell the invaders. The League does not wish to conquer the Azdgari, but merely wage a limited war to safeguard the borders. Although depending on the Azdgaris treatment of the Igadzra people, previous Igadzra systems may need to be secured also.
"Please come to a quick decision, for the Azdgari will not give us much time."
Yelts Admiral Ilither looked at the renagades offer and shook his head.
"Comms, message the renagades and tell them to transmit all the data on a low powered signal. Unless they're idiotic, nothing past a light day will recieve it. Tell them we will allow a single ship to land and leave the planet. It will have 30 minutes, or it will be destroyed on taking off. Close Laziras and have them prepare to land troops."

Voinian Empire Emperor Aaron sent the human's reply to the Miranu people and the Miranu Ambassador. With the hope for peace dashed in the Voinian people an apeal for defensive technology is sent to the Miranu. (Message to the Miranu) (From Emperor Aaron) (Not Encrypted) From the message forwarded to you, you can see how closed minded the humans are. If i may make a request of you, when they contact you, i ask that you dont give them any technology that can be used to wage war. Heal them, trade food and medical supplies with them, I simply request you do not aid their war machine.
As the fact remains that we probobly have no chance for survival against the humans we apeal to you for defensive technology. Engine upgrades, shield technology, anything that will help us survive this war. (end) ------ Slave Worlds Small towns are made for the slaves here and there. Mostly to make them more comfortable than to free them. These communities are watched by the Voinian sections via sensors and all sorts of detectors. If a Hinwar decided to sneak out of town to blow up a weapons depot, guards would be on him/her in moments. ------ Voinian Border Sensor sweeps increase repeditivity by 100%. If there was any movement in UE ships on their border the Voinians would see it coming. Ships are placed on a ready alert. There would be no delay in responce to an enemy ship entering the system. ------ Riden Station The Voinian Emperor decides to send a message to the Emalgha reuarding mutual assistance. (Message to Emalgha) (From Voinian Emperor Aaron) (Not Encrypted) Greetings. I have decided to offer you a pact of mutual assistance. We know how cramped you are in your system. We offer help in relocating your people to other worlds. Your fleet is small, freighters few. With our ships helping you could easily relocate faster. There is no way I can possibly repay you for your losses, but i want to try. (end) ------ Svass The Shipyard is nearly complete. Hinwar and Voinians sit at the same table and grudgingly eat together. ------ Mihal Newly constructed vessels arrive with the usual flash. Though two ships much larger than the rest. 2 Dreadnoughts, 4 Cruisers, 20 Frigates, 7 HVY Fighters, 13 Intercepters take a defensive possition in the system. ------ Voinian R &D; With designs for every energy weapon known, a hybrid is seemingly a good step.
