Wave of Destruction - Ch. 11-15

OOC:How about a vote? We should see how many people would prefer having RED as a mod instead of Carno. The combination of moderational powers and a super-race may just be to much of a temptation for Carno...
----------------------------
The Miranu fleet had left Zidagar space without meeting with the Vice Admiral, as the main intention of the meeting was contacting ESPilot and working out s truce and some tech trades. Another reason was that a very interesting thing had happened. An Miranu slave had escaped the clutches of the Accara. Paul was hurrying to meet him now. The first two MVAG's had come of the production line and were on their way to Coalition space to show them what they were and hopefully bring back some replicators so the Aurgelmir could be built faster.
---------------------------
In a medical ward on New Mira, a male Miranu of medium build sat on the thin mattress of a medical bed, awaiting a meeting with Admiral Benden. He had a smal bandage on the back of his neck, and some Mumb Leave Ointment on some cuts and bruises. When Paul arrived, they talked for a bit and the ex-slave began to tell his story. "I was part of a work crew. They was havin' us build a bunch of ships. Big 'uns. When I first learned of my assignment, I thought 'bout jus' buildin' thems wrong or somethin'. Instead a jus' lettin' us work with a bunch a guns trained on us, they put these devices on the backs of our necks. They had these wires that tingled, and they would make you do what you was told." As Paul heard this part, he thought of trading for this technology just so his grandkids would do their chores. The man continued, "Anyways, we was goin' back from workin' on the ships, and a rockslide nocked a bunch of us down a hill. We was all rollin' and tumblin' down. The other guys hit their heads or somethin' and died. On the way down a rock hit the device on my neck and nocked it off. They apparently had some kinda spikes holdin them in.

"I jus' remember wakin' up in the mornin' and seein' the wreck of a ship nearby. It was an old Zachit Arada, like the one my Dad used to fly. It was missin' most of its right wing and the hull was all bent up, but she looked like she could fly. I found some sealant in the hold an' sealed up the small cracks that had appeared in her hull. The shied generators weren't workin' all to good, and its a wonder that I made it past the blockade. II had just barely enough feul to get here." After finishing his recount of his last few days, Paul started questioning him about the ships and the Accara. "Oh, yeah. They had big ships. Real fancy. Looked like they was gettin' ready for somethin big. If I would you I would get ready and make more ships. The Accara ground warriors are mean. I saw some ground troops hidin' behind a barracade engaged in a firefight with 'em. All of a sudden, a couple of 'em grab their heads and start rollin on the ground, as though they had horrid headaches. Another one just kina sat their with a blank look in his eyes, as though he just wasn't there. Then WHAM!! This big explosion goes off right behind the soldiers, and they crouch closer to the barracade. Then one of them warriors leaps up eight feet and comes over the barracade, killin' all of 'em with one of their funky weapons."

After the interveiw, Paul thanked the man and assured him that his medical care would be covered by the government, then left. Reports from the MVAG's about the trial were coming in over the comm of his ship...
-----------------------------
The two MVAG's entered the DSN-9608 system and opened fire. Their targets weren't Coalition ships, but asteroids rather. They flew into a large group of asteroids and fired all of their torpedo launchers at once. The area surrounding them lit up in a large explosion, and the two MVAG's flew out of it and transmitted a single message to UEA: "Is that a good enough explanation of what an MVAG is?" They included a recording of the test fire.

Outpost Amun - Acarra Military Outpost

"Incoming ships?" Caalaklael Radaeon asked.

"No sir," replied First Zealot Tiraknar. "None have been spotted all this takor*."

"Very odd..." Radaeon muttered. "...For it is that Dark's way to assault constantly until you wither and fall like a dead leaf from an old tree. What about the other caalaklaels?"

"Caalaklael Uraon and Caalaklael Zephra have reported no dark ships within the last eight tarorons," Tiraknar replied. "No ships... No battles..."

"Hmmmm... Contact Praetor Fenaxin. She's in command of all the outposts in this sector, and she'd ought to know it if the Dark suddenly stop coming."

------------------------

The March of the Wolves

It had happened.

The worst thing that could have ever occured, had happened.

The Dark had engaged their long-time enemies, the Tijirak, now emerging from an eon of hiding in another dimension. With the Tijirak Front now in grave danger, the Dark were unable to sustain a costly campaign against the Acarra, and were now forced to withdraw into a defensive campaign.

Now, dozens of ships would serve no purpose, and would quickly be re-positioned. A little less than half of the fleets on the Dark/Acarra border were moved out and slowly sent towards the Wolf Armada; the six fleets that had been attacking the milky way for several weeks, all under the command of First General Lythrawn.

With the new influx of ships, the Acarra would now be able to mount huge offensives against their enemies, offensives so powerful that nothing could stand in their way. And so, just because the Dark became purely defensive, the fate of the free nations of the milky way was now in grave danger. The worst thing, had indeed happened.

The wolves were about to march.

------------------------

Muid System

Now, with his newfound power, Lythrawn immediately sent the reinforcement group to Muid. Approximately 120 warships jumped into the system, led the by the newly-constructed command ship Black Dragon , led by the experienced Praetor Talasa.

Knowing that much of the Azdgari's navy would be off fighting in Dirach, Talasa attacked as soon as he could. His huge fleet, or rather Lythrawn's fleet that was under his temporary control, easily plowed through the first wave, but then found quite a bit of stiff resistence in the second wave. The battle raged on...

------------------------

Yerdor System

And so the wolves moved on...

A huge warfleet of 160 warships under the command of Third General Lhevak jumped into the system and began opening fire on the Zidagar fleet in several devastating barrages. The Acarra plowed towards their enemy, seemingly unstoppable...

Just to point that out. And another thing, Carno, Zidigar Fighters are the second fastest fighters in the galaxy next to Azdaras, and all Zidigar fighters have Flash Turrets , which are the longest-range primary weapons. And now they're longer range and much more powerful.

Espilot's wristcomp beeped again. "What?" he said. "Sir! The Acarra are attacking Yerdor!" "WHAT?!?!?! NOW?!" "Yes, sir. There's a massive fleet of them. Reinforcements are coming in, though. We have at least ten Carriers, and all five of the Trebuchets are mobilized." "All right, I'll be there as soon as I can. Do what you can, Kalej." He closed off the link, and said "Saraine, the Acarra are attacking our space. You can help if you'd like." Espilot went quickly to the docking bay, and sped off in the Wraith Shadow.

The Zidigar ships, their captains having been ready for an assault, quickly retreated, and began sniping most of the fighters from a distance. Reinforcements were called in from Neeg, Pozdag, Vlagos, Namot and Fluron; all patrols were barrelling straight through subspace to Yerdor. Soon, five large fleets of ships entered the system, but three the places the entered the system at weren't even designated hyperlink 'exits'. Hyperspace carriers hovered in subspace while the massive fleet of Zidagras, Zidaras and Fighters commenced the attack. Firstly they went for the enemy fighters, attacking from long range; they knew the damage that could be done with the energy lattices made by Acarra vessels. Just then, two massive ships entered the system. They were Trebuchet Heavy Destroyers; the Ornlu , and one of the newer vessels, the Gintonic (I kid ye not). The Zidigar fleets were half and again the size of the Acarra fleet. Although they had an advantage with such superior numbers, Vice Admiral Kalej wasn't going to simply waste his ships. Massive volleys of Ciat missiles were being deployed, since they were much more effective than Anti-matter missiles against shields. And still there were four more Trebuchet Heavy Destroyers on their way.

OOC: Carno, before you get on to me about fleet numbers, the Zidigar have been producing an enormous amount of military ships since the completion of the Construction Droid Teams, and lots of those ships were Zidagra Frigates and Zidaras, all of which have very heavy weaponry for ships of their size. Not to mention my new Mahout Systems on Zidagras and Trebuchets.

"Drat." ESPilot replied. "If we could find some, it would make our job that much easier. I wonder where they could be?"
Saraine thought. "A ha!" he cried. "Lightbulb! This station orbits Gadzair, right? And Council Station used to orbit Gadzair, yes? And Gadzair is named after the Gadzair " he grinned, leaving ESPilot to make the conclusion.
"It's worth a try." ESPilot replied.
"Excellent. I'll send a search team down to Gadzair on the space elevator immediately."

The damaged Confed Defender jumps in and cloaks.

Aboard the Confed Defender
The captain smiled. The lack of human friends was making him a bit crazy. He didn't know why he was on this stupid mission, why he knew no one on the Defender. But he did know one thing. What he was about to do would be for the good of Confeds everywhere. An officer walked up to him.
"It's ready, sir." The captain grinned as he looked out the viewport to see the Dark. Nothing but dark. He opened a channel with all ships in the system.
"Hey Dark. We Confeds have been thinking. You like the dark, right? Well then..." The captain switched on a button,"how do you like the light?" From the very head of the Defender shot a huge beam of light from a huge bulb. Suddenly, all of the system in front of the Defender lit up...
----------
Gurhadion
The fleet was finally ready. After weeks of building ships, the armada had been assembled. Hundreds of fighters and capitals shot in to the Kelmaon system and opened fire on the Acarra.

Aboard the Defenders of the Gurhadion fleet
From the Defenders shot rays of light. Suddenly, a fleet of about five times the size of the Gurhadion fleet jumped in to the system. These ships flew up to the Acarra and started firing.
"Sir, it's working! The Broadcast cloak is a success!" After months of being unused, the Broadcast cloak finally did its work. Hundreds of fake ships and lasers were everywhere, while the real ships were attacking too.

A fleet of Confeds jump in and open fire. It wasn't a huge fleet, but it was still pretty big. And it had the Striker staying behind lines, waiting for the right moment to attack. Another fleet then jumped in on the other side. The other fleet was much smaller, but togeather, the fleets were powerful. All ships open fire as the Broadcast cloaks on the Defenders and the Striker multiply the ship number dramasticly.

Carno, you are being slightly rough, but it's all allowed.

The Shamtul turn to face MJ.
"Have your hives accepted?"
----------------------
Suddenly, something happened that not even the Acarra predicted. A Massive Evacuation, under the command of REDchigh himself, took place, all initiated within hours. Most outposts and outer systems suddenly evacuated.
Anything west of the Igadzra system is completely abandoned, with any produced resorces being loaded onto freightors.
(This has been a secret plan for quite a while, no one else can evacuate in a matter of hours.)
After the Civilians land on the new core planets, the escorting ships all leave, for Dirach, since the bulk of the navy was already in Muid. The Acarra continued to battle, and with reinforcements, the Azdgari once again had the upper hand by a noticeable amount, and in Dirach, every available warship jumped in- about 130. Although not overwhelming, there was a slight advantage... Dirach is an inner system, and as such, the Cataclysm was present. In a matter of minutes, the ship count nearly doubles as the fighters are launched and the supercruiser screams forward, all weapons firing, with ( upgraded ) draiek modules slaming into the Psi shields....
-------------------
In Outpost Laak, the Acarra notice a few Shamtul Ghalok's jump in, with escort. The Defense fleet countercharges, without any mention since Shamtul Offensives are so common. However, much to the Acarra's suprise, there seems to be a strategy, with the Ghalok engaging the fleet as some small worms stay back. After a minute, the Acarra realize to their horror that there has been a shield breach on the base below. As marines in the station storm, they quickly annihalate the intruders, and the Shamtul fleets jump out, badly damaged.

MOD: I somehow doubt you could use that technology of yours to make whole stars go through it. It would probably distabilize anyway. And don't forget the hundreds of innocent slaves on the planet. 😉

------------------------

Dirach System

Even if the Azdgari did have 130 ships, they were still no match for the equally large Acarra fleet (remember Red, Acarra ships on average are better than yours). Swarms of Shrikes were launched and immediately swarmed the enemy fleet, and, backed up by the just as deadly Wraiths, slaughtered Azdaras in droves.

Then, of course, came the backup fleets.

From all the nearby border worlds came about 15-20 ships each. A total of 80 ships finally arrived, putting the total fleet statistics for the Acarra at 210 warships, not counting the fighters. They easily tore through the enemy fleet, turning it to shreds within minutes. Over half the Azdgari fleet fell, and still the Acarra fleet marched on...

------------------------

Muid System

The Acarra fleet, under heavy fire, was forced to retreat back to Muid, where it met up with 30 more ships the Dark/Acarra border that had been moved to help that fleet.

------------------------

Yerdor System

Though it looked like the Zidagar had the advantage, that soon changed. The Acarra greatly outmanuevered their enemies, and the Flag turrets soon became of no use against the Acarra; Vacar Lances proved to have just as long a range as the Flash Turrets, if not a little more. The Acarra began to move around the Zidagar fleet, and finally creating a circle around them. The Acarra then closed in, knowing that the Zidagar no longer had full use of their flash turrets. The Shrikes and Wraiths slaughtered enemy fighters in huge numbers, outgunning and outmaneuvering their foe. Seeing that the Wraith was just a tad slower than the Azdara and that the Shrike could easily outmaneuver and outrace an Azdara, this was not surprising.

Then, came another aid. Fourth General Vaergon was still in the area, and sent his own fleet into the system. A little over 130 warships slipstreamed into the system and opened fire on the Zidagar, destroying many of their ships.

The enemy Trebuchet destroyers were especially targetted. Several groups of Wolf Starcruisers descened upon the Ornlu hammering it with a huge amount of weapons fire. One starcruiser actually rammed the enemy destroyed, knocking out its shield grid as the other ships pounded its armor.

------------------------

Kelmoan System

The Acarra were slowly being pushed back, but help was on the way. Tronos, with his fleet of 170 warships, was speeding towards his location as fast as he could. Using the warpgate, Tronos crossed most of the distance in seconds, and would soon arrive in Kelmoan.

Meanwhile, the Acarra continued to launch their own swarm of fighters which, though heavily outnumbered, could still outmaneuver and outgun their adversaries. The dogfighters were incredible as swarms of Shrikes and Wraiths engaged the Confederate fleet, lighting up space in huge vollies of energy weapons fire. And, all the while, anything that got close to the command ship was obliterated within seconds...

------------------------

OOC: ESPilot, how many ships do you have in Yerdor? Also, you may have "superior numbers" but the Acarra still have vastly superior firepower. 😛

------------------------

Gadzair System

For days the Dark Angel scouting team scoured the surface of Gadzair, and during that time they found countless wrecks and even a few decimated cities, now a millennia old.

However, one day, Lieutenant Laether found what looked like a cave. He and a few other soldiers entered it, careful of anyone or anything that might be about.

Descending furthur into the cave, he suddenly found that it was not just a cave, but it turned into a metal-plated tunnel that stretched far underneath the surface at a slant. Walking down it, their flashlights on, the scout group suddenly noticed that the corridor was now straight instead of at a curve.

"What's that?" said one soldier as he looked ahead, seeing a sort of cyan and blue glow farther up the tunnel.

"I don't know..." Laether responded and rasied his rifle. Walking forward, they suddenly came into a huge room, and adoring the walls were dozens of crystals, some glowing green, cyan, purple, or blue. In the center was another very large white crystal.

"A crystal storage depot!" Laether exclaimed.

"Nakan'dadsha'dkran..."

"Who said that?" asked a soldier.

"I don't know. Did you?" asked another.

"It wasn't me!" Laether responded, looking around. Suddenly, he gasped.

There was a black robed figure standing in the middle of the room, beside the crystal.

"Who... who are you?" Laether asked, holding his rifle in his shaking hands.

"Dakdand'handalndsas..."

"What?"

I know who you are...

Now Laether was REALLY scared. You'd be scared too if you had a voice suddenly pop into your head.

I am the guardian of this place... I am a Gadzair... I am the mind...

"A gadzair!" Laether exclaimed, and immediately all the rifles were pointed at the figure, who had also drawn his own rifle; a PSI rifle.

With lightning agility, the Gadzair lept into the air, coming down behind the group and kicking one of the soldiers to the ground. The other two turned to face him, but all the Gadzair had to do was stretch out his hand, and with pure psi force, he flung them across the room into the wall.

Laether was also knocked to the ground by the psi force of the Gadzair, when suddenly one of the soldiers got up and pointed a weapon at him. The gadzair fired his rifle, the pulse blasting into the soldier and stunning him.

Quickly, Laether grabbed one of the soldiers fallen rifles and threw it at the Gadzair, who dodged it, but it threw him off-balance. Laether then jumped up and fired his rifle at the Gadzair, killing the creature. In his rush, he hadn't been able to set it to stun.

Moving forward, Laether picked up the psi rifle, then looked at the dead Gadzair. His appearance was similar to that of an Azdgari, Zidagar, and Igadzra combination, but his skin color was totally different. It was all black, with purple sploches here and there. His skin was reptillian and his claws rather sharp. It was eriee to look at him.

"Let's get these crystals back to the base," Laether said. "They're gonna be happy about this..."

------------------------

OOC: Shade, the psi rifle will not come in handy at first, but if you ever try and create some sort of psi weapon, it will help research it.

------------------------

Gadonthez System

Immediately, high pitched shrieks came across the com system, hurting everybodies ears. In the newfound light, the Confeds could see about 7 or so demonic-looking alien craft, all black, with engines that glowed purple or blue. There was also a massive station, but it was unlike any station that the confeds had previously seen.

Suddenly, the ships screamed back towards the Confederate ship, firing some sort of energy weapon which severely damaged their shields. Obviously, the dark hated the light, but were not going to die if they saw a little bit of it...

------------------------

OOC: I'll try a little later to make a pict of the station.

------------------------

With the battle in Outpost Laak, the Acarra quickly realized that they needed something to try and stop these odd slugs that kept on being launched at them. And so, a new Point Defense System would be worked out, and would use the already existing Psi Disruptor for its weapon.

OOC:
Occasionally, I actually have a life. So I didn't see all this voting til this morning. After some thought, I am voting "yay" for Carno staying as moderator, for the following reasons: He's a brilliant web designer and writer. He's put ___tloads of time into this project. Most important to me, he finally clued me in on his grand vision of the story - which includes the Acarra taking over MORE of the Galaxy, and in which the various governments would have to be uniting and cooperating in order to finally beat back and defeat the Acarra. I mean, it's a cool story, and it'd be fun to do, even if it gets worse before it gets better.

That said, here's why I considered a "nay". Carno needs to be a more "moderate" moderator, who appreciates and encourages the ingenuity and intelligence of the contributing writers, instead of shutting them down every time they come up with something outside of the story script he holds in his head. His fatal error was in not communicating his big ideas to anyone (possibly excepting Red), but in still expecting people to follow the hints he left, and being really P___ed off when they didn't follow them.

So, of course, we all thought that he was just using his mod powers to "cheat" and allow his characters, the Acarra, to sweep through all opposition, just to satisfy his ego or something. But it turns out that it wasn't to satisfy his ego, but to move toward this grand saga of tyranny and resistance - which I, for one, like and want to participate in.

As I told him, he has two choices now; either clue everyone in, as he has me, on the eventual shape of the story, and ask for their willing cooperation, or allow the "script" to adapt and change with other folk's ideas, which, in my limited experiencce of webstories and role-playing games, is the beauty of it.

Otherwise, we'll continue to bicker and balk, and eventually the story will just die, which would be a shame, considering what everyone, not just Carno, has put into it.

Nuff said. Carno, what's the verdict?

Nemnel

Mamajama arrived in Nemnel, and hurried to the area where the Shamtul were held. After greeting and conferring with Bomphur and her other staff, she went to the keypad, and typed in:

SHAMTUL, I HAVE RECEIVED MESSAGES FROM MANY OF THE OTHER GOVERNMENTS. THEY AGREE TO YOUR TERMS - YOU HAVE FREEDOM TO MOVE AND TO BREED (ALTHOUGH NOT IN OUR HOMEWORLD SYSTEMS). YOU WILL NOT EAT ALLIED SHIPS OR ALLIES, AND YOU WILL HELP US FIGHT THE ACARRA. YOU ARE NOW FREE TO GO.

With that, Mamajama keyed in the sequences which would allow the massive doors of glass and steel to swing open, letting the Shamtul (and the Ghalok) to leave their prison. The doors swung wide. Twenty mechs stood waiting for a command. The scientists and others waited to see if the Shamtul would attack.

Paul sent a message to UEA detailing how long it took to build(1 Per Post with Replicators) and its stats(see page 3(I think)), and a request not to trade any tech that was co-researched with the Miranu or traded from them. Work was beginning on the first of the Miranu supercruisers, the Aurgelmir. The ship was being constructed in the Dreadnaught shipyards, and the carried ships were being constructed in the CW's shipyards.

Plans were being made to start work on a second BattleCarrier, one that was identical to the Aurgelmir in every aspect. The Miranu Ambassador had arrived at the Confederacy homeworld, and was awaiting a meeting with grunadulator.

Building is constant and automatic. You don't need to put it in your R&D; thing.

Shade; sure, break the brick in three pieces. Just remember that will definitely give you a bad headache.

Mamajama; thanks. I'll try and share my ideas with more people better from now on, though I think I pretty much layed out my plan to everyone except for UE Admiral. <goes off to send e-mail>

Nuff said. Carno, what's the verdict?**

I think "Wave of Destruction" is badly named, as it's not nearly as open ended as it sounded. The arguments about Carno were bound to surface eventually, though. I'm just glad I didn't start them myself. <grin> Carnotaur does have a few faults in webstories: firstly, he always wants to be in a position of power over "normal" players. That's from Rooster, I'd imagine. I don't know if I could be said to share it - I'll leave that to everyone else.

As well as that, he likes a very firm, very narrow, and very basic plot - alien enemy, everyone comes together to destroy them. Yes, it does take away a lot of the fun. When I was playing Coalition (apologies for having to drop out; I've had to do it an awful lot of times in webstories, for reasons like exams, not enjoying it (which isn't based on how well I actually do in it, 3/4 all webstories I've stayed in I've died in), or depression), it quickly became clear that I would be denied the opportunity to actually come to much power. I had plans to fight the Azdgari, but I quickly learnt of this Acarra plot, at which point it all really became boring. That was one of the reasons I quit, another was the fact that I was apparently not in any control. e.g. Carnotaur's background developments appeared to have complete right to control me in ways I found unacceptable. Of course, the control of an officer might not seem much, but since I was weaving a plot of conspiracy with very few involved conspirators, he was actually controlling one of my most important figures. The other reasons...well, those are personal.

He's a good writer, and he has webspace. I suppose we have to forgive him his few faults. <sticks tongue out> And I'll try to work some subtlety into him, and maybe even convince him to take a non-warlike, non-superior and non-moderational position in a story some time.

To note, though, players shouldn't be limited in what they can or cannot do because of a grand "vision" for a plot. Players should be allowed to control their own actions, and those actions shouldn't be moderated upon simply because they damage that vision. Taking RoC3 for example; I set out a vague plot involving the Andromedan Prylak and later the Prylak's Divinity, but despite this I have not moderated on Galactica's actions to annex the Confederate Alliance and the Skraine. It's their plot. Not mine. In the same way, WoD is not Carnotaur's plot, and not even Redchigh's plot. It's Redchigh's story, but the plot belongs to the players. That's the whole point of it being an interactive story.

Apologies again for my having to quit, especially to Redchigh (but I did warn you that I probably would have to quit). I doubt I'm allowed to vote, of course.

So I won't even bother.

After all, Christian and I are friends.

Well, if you consider that most of that post is slagging off a moderator, it kind of makes sense. 😛

Nah, Carno, we love you really.
