Reign of Chaos 3 - Chapter VI

The Confederate Alliance defense fleet in DSN-3930 was on edge, and had been ever since the recent Galactica mass offensive began. The relatively small fleet was left wondering whether they would be the next system to fall victim to the armed might of the Galactica Space Navy.

The fleet's officers all jumped at the sight of 13 large spacecraft entering the system. However, it soon became clear that the ships were nothing but bulk freighters. Seeing that they were coming from the Galactica controlled system of DSN-1154, the fleet charged weapons and hailed the freighters anyway.

"Bulk freighters, identify yourselves and drop shields for a cargo inspection or I will order my fleet to open fire." said the admiral in charge of the Alliance defense fleet.

The lead freighter opened a channel to the Confederate command ship and said, "This is the S.S. Kayia, out of DSN-1154. We are escaping from the oppressive Galactica Imperium, and we have no time to drop shields, for a Galactica battlegroup is right behind us! We have samples of Galactica technology on board, and we are bound for Mirava."

The Confederate Alliance admiral had no time to respond, for just as the freighter captain stopped speaking 5 Galactica Support Cruisers, 6 Strike cruisers, and 2 Missile Frigates entered DSN-3930. The Missile Frigates shot off a couple of Cluster Missiles each, and the large missile clusters hit and destroyed one of the fleeing freighters. The Confederate fleet immediately layed in an intercept course and began to charge the Galactica battlegroup, attempting to get within weapons range.

In the confusion, the 12 remaining freighters jumped into hyperspace towards Dislor, heading for Mirava. What the Confederates did not know was that the 12 freighters were actually some of Galactica's new modified freighters, and they each carried a huge Standoff Missile payload.

My state bird is the finger.

OOC: BD, that system would have like 150-200 ships in it. That isn't a "Small fleet".

-------------

As the Confederates easily delt with the attacking Galactica fleet, the Confeds in Mirava were put on alert and they quickly moved to intercept the freighters. As they entered, after having gone through Dislor, they were instantly scanned, and the Confeds quickly saw that they were heavily armed.

Firing their weapons before Galactica could respond, the Confederate fleet tore through the enemy frieghters, tacking out 6 and disabling the rest before Galactica could do anything. The rest were then quickly scanned, and then destroyed as well.

-------------

The Confederates, seeing that Galactica was winning badly, quickly began to withdraw their forces. The remaining ships (200-300 ships I think), fled. They entered Leka, then quickly jumped out before Galactica could do anything about them. Many civillians were also being evacuated in non-military transports with a special beacon that said that they were neutral.

Meanwhile, resources, frieghters, supplies, and ships were being massed at Hrekka. The DSN-6008 system was also blocked off, and the Confeds appeared to be preparing something for that system...

(Yes, we are offering you the hull design of the Corsair, and a very good one it is. It can fit a lot of weapons into a ship that is really quite small, and quite maneuverable. And yes, we ask for your nanites technology, and we would be willing to share with you our Nanoprobe Hull Plating if you really really want it. We need the nanites for our medical research projects, and for some other possible technoliges. We await your response.)

OOC:In my opinion, carnos last post acted on information he didnt have. The freighters are also designed so that to scans they look like normal freighters. Add the fact they would shoot their missle load as soon as they entered the system. I'm not writing a post tearing the stuffing out of carnos post, since I think BD will do a much better job, and in much more style.

--------

In Leka, it didnt matter that the Confederates where passing through the system quickly. the Minefield had been position to stop anyone running through the system quickly. Galacticas missle drones where also extremely quick off the mark, a lot of them positioned around the hyper points. The Confederates found running through a system that had its defences positioned specifically to stop people running through was a costly business. Barelly half the damaged fleet escaped, the ones which did heavily damaged.

With the success in Azdgari, the Command Station in ruins, Galactica began landing its troops. Then the fleet split, heading for Tollb and Meagh, while leaving behind a powerful contingent, with the first fixed defences to be delivered into the system soon. After the fleet dealt with Tollb and Meagh, it would move onto the other systems in the Azdgari cluster.

On the other side of the Galaxy, the Confederates found themselves in troubleas well. The Galactica fleets attacking where wiping the Confederates out easily, with the massive numbers advantage.

OOC: Carno, why would the fleet be put on alert? Assuming that your ships had time to intercept, why would they think anything was odd about several freighters entering the system? Galactica is an oppressive government, and certain citizens (i.e. Humans, former slave races, etc.) have very hard lives. Refugees from Galactica space would hardly be an uncommon occurance. To the Alliance, the Galactica freighters would look like normal, non-alligned freighters, nothing to be worried about. Even if your defense fleet in DSN-3930 had had the time (or even cared) to notify Mirava, what reason would they have to do so?

Also, your ships would not have the time to intercept my freighters. Once they entered realspace in Mirava, they would have jettisoned their hull plating immediately and opened fire. Their target was your command station, a large target, and therefore minimal time for targeting would have been required. Each freighter's load of Standoff Missiles would be heading towards your station before you had time to react. This would all be done in a matter of seconds, before your ships could really do any harm to the freighters.

I'll wait to see what Esponer has to say about the issue, because neither of us has the authority to do anything about it, and we both contest the other's actions.

the Raiek finally arrive in sight distance of the Skraine battlecruisers, and hails them again with the same message, except more blunt.

The lazerus' curse when the skraine vessels dissappear.. obviously their wargates. They trace them, and use their wormholes to follow them, a jump behind every time. After it is noted where they are going, the three lazerus' join up with two more, and the 5 lazerus' are sent to the wormhole leading to Eta cassiopea... where bombs are laid as soon as the skraine ships are detected on approach.. The gunships are already spread throughout the system..

OOC:REDchigh,I forget. It can't go outside a system, but it can definitely get a ship out of firing range for long enough to get to hyperspace.

Commander Thraize swore as the three Fireblades exited hyperspace to find no less than five Raiek Lazerus-class dreadnaughts waiting.
Immediately the proximity sensors lit up like a Chara'khang tree-the system had been mined hastily beforehand, and Raiek gunships were spread throughout it.
"Divert full power to shields!Full speed!" she screamed through the intership link.
The battlecruisers plowed through the Raiek bombs, and used their WarGates to avoid the Lazeruses ordanance.
Using their EMP beams to deactivate the bombs in wide swathes before them, they slowly built up acceleration, heedless of the enemy fire, and ran towards the Wormhole.
Just before the Skraine warships entered the Wormhole,a message was recieved by the lead Lazerus;

(i)You have sealed your fate,Rhai'ek.Now you will never join us in Eternity!"

Then the three Fireblades were engulfed in the twisting blue light of the Wormhole and disappeared.

Galactica ships are now being fitted with the improved fusion core, and the remaining ships will not take much longer, although ships currently in battle will have to wait until they are free. In Azdgari space, the Confederates are once again losing badly, due to the massive size differences in the fleets, and the Raiek help.

Over in Kelmaon and DSN-4386, the battle has been raging for some time, and Galactica is winning, thanks to the ships it has at its disposal.

In other news, Galactica today decided to start looking into big things and their uses.

------------------
If someone makes a mistake, it is not my fault. I will however use it to my advantage.

Death from the Shadows
War had long held sway over both Ross 154 and the Milky Way. Death tolls had not been higher in many years now. Galactica and the Confederates seemed to fight forever, but no matter what was done, it seemed that the war would never come to a close.

And yet, it was so near...yet no-one knew of it.

No-one knew anything. There was nothing to know, it seemed. Suddenly, one day, it simply happened. And it did not happen in one place, but it happened in many - throughout Ross 154 and the Milky Way, in almost every colonised planet, in almost every town and city, it happened. Of mercy, there was none.

It took a second; a single second, and the worst of it was over. Indeed, the worst of it had to be over, for over eighty percent of the entire population of the Milky Way and Ross 154 had fallen. It would strike all who survived the unfairness of it. To be killed in battle, knowing thine enemy, was an honourable thing, but to fall so quickly that you had no knowledge you were even dying, and no-one would even know what happened...

The Prylak had not been idle. While their ships were caught in skirmishes throughout Andromeda with the Drakal, and more and more vessels were needed on the front line - Zone X, as they called the galaxy - the Prylak had been developing a new weapon. A weapon that no-one could fight.

Reports came in slowly to the survivors. Galactica, the Confederates, the Haorn, Raiek, Terrans and Sijak all faced the same fate. All of their worlds were suddenly struck with death - billions fell dead, with no symptoms preceding and no obvious answers available. Many worlds were lost contact with, and it was assumed that the death there had been absolute. Few survived, and those were mostly isolated peoples, who were still under threat if the plague that had killed so many so quick were to continue.

Every race lost contact with every other race, and also lost contact with parts of their own former space. Their was a tense aftermath, as no-one knew what to do, or what was safe.

Everyone affected had a vague idea of what had come to pass. Somehow, a massive wide-scale plague had hit them, obviously directed, but by whom was unknown. Supporting that, however, was another weapon - a nano-weapon, which appeared to have swept the fleets of many races out from under them. Defence turrets on planets suddenly began opening fire on the survivors, and many systems overloaded. The fleets of the once grand races; Galactica, Confederates, Raiek, Sijak, Haorn and Terrans, were mostly gone. Few ships remained, and there was no trace of the others. From the signs that the "weapon" that had effected them was capable of controlling them, seen by all through defence turrets and controlled overloads, it could only be assumed the crew of the ships were dead, and they had been taken away by the Enemy.

Another shock came a few days later, when nearby planets, now huge tombs to the dead, were found with enormous radiation levels. The planets that had been made completely barren, could no longer be colonised. The Enemy had moved so swiftly that none could even consider fighting back.

The Raiek
A scattered remnant of Raiek vessels, mostly old-style Raiek craft, picked up immense energy readings in dotted areas around southern Ross 154. It appeared that multiple jumpgates had been created, and then collapsed shortly after. Only the Raiek could pick up those signals, as they had once been the Prylak.

And thus they knew their Enemy - it was indeed the Prylak, returned. They knew not why they should be targetted, but they had been, and something had to be done...

The Sijak
Devastated, yet still hopeful, the Sijak managed to isolate one of the nano-colonies which had spread through a Sijak base. They had sterilised it, and begun investigations. The Sijak had long been the Prylak's thinkers, especially in realms of nanites, and they alone stood a chance against fighting off the nano-weapon. Unfortunately, although they managed to also contain and sterilise living tissue containing the plague (which no other race had achieved), they found no way to create a defence against it. They needed a living example of someone immune before they could do anything.

Galactica
Scattered and on the brink of total destruction, Galactica nevertheless tried to fight the plague and nano-weapon, but had not in a few days found any hope. It was then that a Galactica cargoship returned from a long journey. It had come from the South Tip.

There was word that on Kayia, the plague had shown it's first weakness. Humans, Azdgari, Igadzra, Zidagar, Voinians and their slave races, and all types of Miranu, had been slain as easily as elsewhere, but not one Kayan had died...

Eta Cassiopea
From the plains of Senn, the Watcher looked out, and he frowned. Only a few days back, a sleek black vessel which he scried to be Prylak had attempted to enter Eta Cassiopea through a new jumpgate. His scrying had seen the plagues enter the Milky Way and Ross 154, but he was bound by the will of the Senn Elders, and could not interfer.

Eta Cassiopea, however, was his own realm.

The Prylak vessel, which to any other eye did not exist, had been deleted. Eta Cassiopea had been saved from such a death, but the Watcher was still concerned.

He felt death in the Milky Way, and in Ross 154; such death he had never before seen. This was truly a Black Day. He considered long and hard whether he should go against his Elders, and forsake all chance of ever ascending.

Time was one thing the Senn could never understand. So little did it mean to them, and so great was the decision, that the Watcher decided for long in thought. Months would pass before he would decide.

But before he faded into thought, he sent to the peoples of Eta Cassiopea a message.

The Black Day of the Milky Way and Ross 154 will not touch you here. Not even the foe who struck those galaxies can stand up to the Watcher. Eta Cassiopea is safe.

He had not revealed the identity of the enemy, for that choice must come after he decided.

From: REDchigh, Raiek high dictator
"We, The Raiek, not to mention our Galaxy, have been dealt losses of catastrophic proportions. We will not stand for this war crime- We will not let anyone get away with this. We have conclusive proof that our brothers the Prylak are responsible for this, and although we have the same blood in our veins, our spirit for revenge is higher than any other.
The Prylak will regret ever attacking this Galaxy, and we are requesting a conference with the other known races of the universe. We request an end to all hostilities, both Haorn, Skraine, and confederates- for the better good. The Prylak could easily wipe us out with even a scout fleet- We must band together if we are to live- and after we accomplish that, maybe, just maybe, we will deliver a crippling blow to the Prylak.
End**

REDchigh leans back, and wonders if the message will do any good. He feels dark fury building up in him, and vows revenge to the Prylak as he watches yet another world be sealed off- quarentined.

OOC: This came before the post about the Prylak attack.

----------------

The base in DSN-6008 was now being moved to DSN-1412. The new base being constructed would be called "Barad-dur" and would be one of the most powerful bases in existence.

Barad-dur will be a massive station, nearly the size of a moon. The first section of the massive station will be the Primary Matrix. It will resemble a Class 2 UE Station, will have 4 smaller rings and 1 large main ring, and will be about the size of Galactica's command-station.

The Primary Matrix is then connected to 3 outer rings which surround it and connect with it. These are laced with turrets and projectile launchers. There are 3 large spheres that are placed on the outermost ring, and these serve as massive shield generators.

The station is also attached to 6 smaller stations which look quite similar to UE Stations. These stations are all attached to 2 of the 3 outer rings. These serve as separate command centers, gun platforms, shield generators, etc. The station is also surrounded by hundreds of defense pods, the Citadel Defense system, and 10 additional standard battlestations near the perimeter of the system.

The station is also protected by special sub-space satellites. The satellites are placed in a ring around the very outer-edge of the system, as well as clustered near the center. Each satellite serves as a shield generator, creating two shield bubbles; one around the station and another perimeter field. The perimeter field is used to damage ships as they come out of hyperspace and smack into the shield. The second is used for defense of Barad-dur. Each of these satellites are hidden in sub-space.

There is also a special "Firestorm" defense system, composed of 100 different drones (about the size of a Raven), hidden in sub-space throughout the system. These drones, when activated, can create a ring of sub-space around the system or station, much like the Haorn Rift Generator. They can also fire special sub-space beams at targets if they come out of sub-space for a moment.

Barad-dur is also equipped with a long-range sensor array, which allows it to see what is happening in systems 2 or 3 jumps away. The station also comes equipped with shipyards, hab complexes, and research laboratories.

All of this is designed to allow for Barad-dur to be impenetrable and easily usable as a command center. With the loss of Azdgari, the Confeds now need a good base.

As soon as the bio weapons and plague struck, the Confederates immediately went into a state of emergency. No Inter-System travel was allowed in an effort to stop the plague.

Immediately the knowledge the Confederates had gained from the Skraine was put to use. Medical scientists worked around the clock to try and develope some kind of nanite technology to try and stop the plague and enemy nanoprobes.

The Confederates hastily released the nanites against their enemies, hoping that it would at least slow them down enough for their scientists to develope better nanites.

All military personnel were quickly evacuated from Mirava, taking a quick route to the new base at Barad-dur, which was so far quite safe from the plague and nanite attack. Carnotaur, Scorcher, Specter, everybody was evacuated. The Haorn fleet in Kelmoan was quickly moved out and stationed in Barad-dur to help defend it.

Abandoned bases that were thought to contain bio-weapon agents or nanoprobe colonies were destroyed by ships still functional and under Confederate control. Derelict frieghters disabled by the nanoprobes were vaporized, and martial law was declared to keep the population under control.

During all this, Carnotaur sent a message towards Galactica, one that he had been considering for some time but had never carried out...

(Message to Galactica)
(From Carnotaur, Confederation)
(With these massive nano and bio attacks on our two governments, I do believe that our very existence is in danger. That is why I humbly suggest that our two governments ally and try to somehow fight this new, unseen enemy. If we can work together, we may be able to somehow counter it. We are now sending you all our availible data on Skraine Nanite Technology, in hopes that you may find some way to counter this bio weapon.)

Millennium. Its coming, prepare for it.
Coming to the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiaSW.com/games/ev/chronicles.html")EV Chronicles(/url).

The survivors of the Table on Sija were almost hopeless on what to do. Though they had sterlised the tissue, they could not combat it yet. The people had taken to staying in there houses, except for those who worked in the goverment sections.

Finally, there eyes turned to the stars, and though their stations were undermanned, they did have contact, (though only through a few messages) to the Eta colonies. Desperately, they sent a message through to Quirdon, explaining what they had found, and what they wanted. They cut off the message quickly, conserving what they had.

The governor in Quirdon widened his eyes, but appreciating the difficulty they were in, the Eta Sijak send a wide range message to all of the other races and in the other galaxies.

From: The Sijak
To: Everyone who can still hear
We of the Sijak have got a message from our survivors in Ross 154, and they have found an amazing thing. They have found a way to sterilise the nano colonies, and to sterilise living tissue of the plague, but not to defend against it. Please, if any race has found that they are immune, or have any other info that could help us in a defence, we would welcome it. We thank anyone in advance who can help us, and if we find a defence, we will send it to all races, no matter who they are.
end message sequence

Meanwhile Kenra had been on Quirdon, and on finding her people in trouble, had revealed that fact. She was now in the capital, studying the information. Once never wanting to stayput, anyone who tried to move her now would not even get a flicker of interest. Her people were being massacred, and there was almost nothing she could do. Tears stained the papers on her desk, and no one dared to disturb there grieving Leader.

Every heart on Quirdon and the other four colonies cried out, for many had relatives or friends, who had died in the devastating plague. Hopelessness reined in the hearts of all Sijak, and terror had engulfed the Ross 154 Sijak long ago, so many were now numb as they walked along the empty streets.

------------------
If your looking at this signature, you need a life.

It took longer for the Skraine to realise exactly what had happened.
They had no forces in the other galaxies to tell them, and if they had,it would have made no difference. All would have been dead.
Magistrate K'Sarragh was confused from all the messages he had recieved-from the Senn, the Sijak, and even the hated Raiek.
While they mourned for their allies in Ross 154 and the Milky Way,many of the Skraine could not help but feel overjoyed at the message of the Watcher.
In Eta Cassiopea they were at last truly safe; they had no need for war. Perhaps in peace they could even reach Eternity.
A ship of the Skraine fleet left Skrineen equipped for science.
Making it's way silently through the colonies of the Sijak,it reached Quirdon, and activated it's hypermessaging systems.
A message was sent to the Senn system. The Skraine had no way of knowing wether it would be picked up by the Watcher,or replied to;yet still they sent it.

We,the Skraine, have laboured under the base fear of invasion for too long. We thank you, Watcher, for securing this galaxy in peace;truly you are a benevolent mentor.
Should there be anything you wish,we,the Skraine, will endeavour to do it.

This message was typical of the sudden veneration-even worship-the Skraine had quickly developed towards the Watcher.
A new relevation swept the Skraine, from Magistrate K'Sarragh to the lowliest sanitation worker on Xu'aan;the Raiek were not the Prylak from which the Skraine had fled. The Raiek too had suffered from the Prylak attack.
K'Sarragh messaged the Raiek High Dictator personally.

Maybe it took this dark day for the Skraine to realise their anger was misplaced. You,the Raiek, are not our Prylak foes, and have suffered at their hands also. We can now accept your offers of peace; let us concentrate our minds upon the true foe,the Prylak who drove the Skraine from their homeworld, enslaved the races of Ross 154, spread strife and discord throughout the Milky Way,and dealt this terrible blow to all our brother races.
For indeed all races are our brothers against the Prylak;it is time to cast aside our ancient emnitys and unite angainst our common foe.
We would suggest that the conference of all races is conducted here in Eta Cassiopea, on Unity Starbase;the Watcher has already, it is suspected, saved us from this terrible fate.In Eta Cassiopea we are safe.
Yours,
Magistrate K'Sarragh,Skraine Interstellar Coalition of Worlds.

K'Sarragh then sent a modified segment of this message through the wormhole and the Spatial Fold to broadcast to everyone still alive in Ross 154 and the Milky Way.

(Message)
(To:All the brother races of the three galaxies)
(Fr:Skraine Administration)
(Re:The unity of all races)
(We,the Skraine, hereby cast aside all our ancient emnities bar the hated Prylak, who brought this fate upon our brothers.
We must unite against the Prylak menace and destroy them.
The leaders of all races are invited to make their way to Unity Starbase,in the Hoth V system of Eta Cassiopea;the relevant starmaps are included in this message.
There we shall discuss this threat-and our response to it.
Yours,
Magistrate K'Sarragh,Skraine Interstellar Coalition of Worlds.)

All the spare nanites the Skraine could gather were packed into six huge trains of drone transports.
Four were sent through the Wormhole to the Raiek,Haorn,Sijak and newly-found Terrans;the other two were sent through the Spatial Fold to the Confederates and Galactica.
Attached were the schematics for the Skraine nanites and the following message;
This drone convoy carries a large amount of Skraine nanites;we don't know what effect they may have upon the Prylak plauge, but we see it as our duty to at least try and alleviate the suffering of our afflicted brother races.
Salutations from the Skraine Interstellar Coalition of Worlds!

That done,K'Sarragh could only look out upon the fields of Ka'Skria and wonder.
Wonder at what the future could bring for truly, they lived in interesting times.

Emperor BattleDoctor of the Galactica Imperium sat with his highest advisors in a massive hall on Svass Station. The huge table, replicated wood stained a dark red-brown, was unusually empty, as very little of Galactica's higher levels of government had survived.

"Alright," he said in a grave voice, slumping low over the table.. "What is our situation, right now?"

The first advisor to respond was High Admiral Fera, one of three surviving High Admirals of the Galactica Space Navy. "The military is in disrepair. We estimate that we have less than a hundred operational warships left, most of which are in the Svass system. A small detachment is patrolling the rest of our remaining populated space, and I've sent a Support Cruiser and some Strike Cruisers to Kayia. If we were to be attacked by the Confederate Alliance now..."

Fera trailed off, but Foreign Affairs Minister Torv quickly interjected, "They've been hit as hard as we have. They've already sent us a peace overture, along with plans for some nano-technology." He turned towards BattleDoctor and continued, "Sir, I assume i have your authorization to send a reply of 'yes' to them?"

The Emperor sighed and said, "I suppose we have no choice."

High Admiral Fera pressed a few buttons on his luxurious armchair and a holographic galaxy map appeared above the table. "This is our best estimate as to what condition our space is in." The map showed that Galactica had a paltry number of secure systems, with the vast majority of their territory marked as unknown. "Intersystem communications are... sketchy, at best. Our relay station in Sol was damaged, and backup comms relay systems throughout or space aren't responding."

"So, essentially, we have no idea what the situation is in most of our systems." noted BattleDoctor.

"In a word... yes. My best guess is that not one person is left alive east of former UE space, possibly farther west than that. I'm not even going to try and figure the death toll."

Foreign Affairs Minister Torv spoke up again. "You've been told of the Skraine's message, I assume? Apparently Eta Cassiopea was untouched."

"Yes, yes," replied BattleDoctor, looking more distraught by the minute. He looked to one of his advisors, the regional governor of the South Tip and some of former Igadzra space. "What is this I hear about the Kayans?"

"Untouched." he replied. "Most bizarre."

"Look into it. I want you all working on possible solutions to this. Fera, I want a report on the viability of EMP by tomorrow evening. Now, I must be off, to the meeting at Unity Station. Farewell, and good luck."

With that, he stood up and began to walk towards the docking bays of Svass Station.

The ships attempted to leave Eta Cassiopea, but they were suddenly met by a huge invisible and undetectable barrier, on every exit. It seemed that the Watcher would not let them leave.

He spoke no word of this, however. They didn't know, but the Watcher, who still held a physical form, had departed the Senn system. Before he could decide what course of action he needed to take, he had to see several places - Ross 154, the Milky Way, Andromeda, and all the other galaxies of the Prylak.

He had created a vessel to serve him using his powers; a Senn Instigator, the only Senn vessel ever designed for warfare. Undetected, and undetectable, he disappeared from Eta Cassiopea, moving swifter than any other ship could.

Looking at the horible, mind blowing death tolls in the privacy of his quarters, Espona realized something must be done about the scattered and isolated fleets. His command group and support fleet was basically the only intact and fully operational group around. Espona trusted his fleet commanders that they would do their best to pull together, but planetside would be a different story. From the worlds that still had communications, reports flooded in about mass riots and panic. Questions flooded his mind. What planets still had a population? Who comitted this atrocity? Why? How? Would they ever be able to get revenge? Most importantly, what would they do to rebuild, and, if possible, get back into caontact with the other races? Not knowing exactly what to do, Espona commanded his fleet to head for home. Along the way, they would regain control of any still habitable planets. The fleet turned, and began the trek to the core worlds, where, hopefully, they could salvage what was left.
