Well, I just started and am playing the following rules.
-No escorts -Crew of One -Strict Play -No Azdgari
I have just completed the first UE mission with the defector and have upgraded to my beautiful UE fighter! Probably the one I will use from now on. How about the rest of you?
PS-Am I the only one doing Strict?
------------------ Harry Rules! Look on the bright side of life! Great game, gotta check it out!(url="http://"http://pub29.ezboard.com/b20")--20--(/url)
Actually, Great White Godfather is going to play Strict, too. And of course, I'll be playing Strict. I still haven't started a new pilot for this... I'm still at work. But here's the rules I'll be playing under:
Crew of One
No Escorts
No Azdgari
Strict Play
No Monty Python
And although it pretty much goes without saying, no plug-ins.
Paradigm
------------------
NO MONTY PYTHON!? WOW! I'll be amazed if you can survive! God! I thought Crew of One was bad on strict, but that with no monty python is suicide! I pretty much do the monty python involuntarily! I wish you luck!
------------------ - Captain Stud Beefpile - UE Naval 238th Squadron - Azdgari Squadron "Firebird" Leader - Member of the Zacha Renegade Elimination Corporation
Yeah, I forgot no MPing...that is on my no list too. I never used it myself....so it does no harm
Gosh, a lot of missions are gonna be pretty taxing in a fighter without MPing! It's almost the only option when you're against 10 turncoats, CWs, etc. I think you may be spending quite a while on this! And no doubt doing a lot of stuff with the cloaking device!!
A UE fighter would seem to be a fairly obvious choice for this challenge, but I've discovered a nice trick for using the Crescent fighter that doesn't involve Monty Python and would seem to be completely fair. It takes advantage of the fighter's speed and fast shield recharge. It works like a charm against human renegades, but I haven't tested it against crescent renegades or Voinians yet. Should I post it? Or would everyone prefer to do this on their own.
Here's what I'll be playing:
- Crew of uno - No Azdgari - Unstrict Play - No Monty Python - No Escorts
Okay, maybe I'm not as crazy as all you who are trying strict, and I'm sorry I'm not one of you, but I wish you all luck. I think it will be plenty of challenge for me, with no MP or escorts. And giving up my beloved Azdgari. sniff
Not sure if I'll upgrade to the Crescent Fighter... Now would be the time to decide, before I get the cloaking device...
------------------ Macintosh for productivity, Linux for development, Palm for mobility, and Windows for Solitaire.
One crew. No escorts. No contact with Aggies. No MP (if I don't do it on instinct). Strict.
Going for the Central Objectives (but not Aggy).
Well I'm on my second try already. Oh for an auto-eject! See you guys in a couple of weeks (spring break). Good luck all.
------------------ Non est ad astra mollis e terris via.
Oh, yeah. What's the crew on an Emalgaha (Sp?) fighter?

OK, I would do this challenge, because now it sounds like fun. However, my only problem would be getting from the Shuttle to a fighter. Usually, I get a freighter, and 6 freighter escorts, and do the fertilizer run, but the freighter violates the rules, if I figure out what to do, I'll join the challenge.
Oh, and good luck to those who have begun.

/me scoffs. You can easily do the Hatuli run with just six frieghter escorts. And if you do UE missions, you won't need money Don't forget, it's not like you need a ton of money to buy cruisers since.....you can't

Your actually leaving your arada for a while Stud?
------------------ If you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. If you don't give a man a fish, you'll have something for dinner.
Well today, I died for the first time. I decided to get myself some combat points so I headed over to Dogover and shot up some Frigates. I took one out iwth the help of a Destroyer and would have beaten the second one if not for the fact that another Frigate ganged up on me. So now I'm out of my UE fighter and back to a Shuttle with around 60k to my name.
Stats for my old UE fighter
Four Blaze cannons One rocket launcher Ten rockets I believe I also had one after burner
Yes, I actually plan to make a new pilot, and leave my Arada for a bit. The reason I am hesitant to start, is because without my little freighter magic trick, I don't know where I can get money quick. I don't feel like doing cargo runs back and forth in a crappy Shuttle for 5 days straight, just to get enough money to buy a blaze cannon. How much does the UE Fighter cost anyway?
UE fighter costs 300k. I'd say just join Frontier Express early on and get 75k per delivery for them and it shouldn't take long!
Frontier Express in a Shuttle? I don't think I would like that...
I'm still a bit hesitant on how to start off. But I do plan to do this.....eventually
OK, after a debate with myself, I have decided to do this challenge. I shall join FE in my little shuttle, and do their missions for some quick, dangerous cash. I will need it, because I am not going to change to a UE Fighter, until I can afford to maintain it. Wow, this is going to be the first time I EVER outfit a shuttle!
FE in a shuttle would only be a worry if you're on strict.... Just whack on an afterburner and ideally get the cloaking device.. although you wouldn't want to do that until you get the fighter. It all starts to sound a bit tricky :). Good luck, wish I could take part!
The first time you outfit a shuttle? I like to stay in the shuttle for quite a while, and have even put one of the engine upgrades on it before, mainly so that I'm not holding so much cash for stealing :).

MartiNZ - Howcome you can't participate? Don't you have EVO?
Captain's Log: May 15th (I forget the year)
It's been two months since I signed up for the "Crew of One" challenge. In my shuttle, before I had any upgrades, I was shot down by a lone Krait. wow was that embarassing. Then, I got a few upgrades, actually, all I did was add 2 more Blaze Cannons, so I could at least make runs to Thoso, and other Renegade frequented systems. I got very lucky, as when I took off from New Chicago one morning, a Turncoat was in the system, with a UE Destroyer and Fighter. I took out the Kraits, while they worked on the Turncoat. They managed to disable it, and then, a Helian warped in. They went after him, leaving the disabled turncoat to me. I don't know what force was on my side, but this was too good. A disabled Turncoat, not being attacked, open for a money hungry Shuttle pilot? Obviously, I went and boarded it, and found a nice 70 thousand credit reward waiting for me. I tried to take it's cargo, but I set off the self destruct mechanism. So what? I got my money! This gave me the major, initial boost of money. I then signed up with Frontier Express, and made 2 75K cargo runs, risking my shuttle. I began to laugh when I arrived in Bakka. Imagine, a shuttle avoiding a Voinian Blockade, and only being hit by one rocket. So I earned around 150 thousand credits or so, from my Turncoat oppurtunity, and my FE runs. I was then given the job of getting the Voinian Defector to Luna. Again, a Shuttle proves to have the ability of avoiding a Voinian Blockade. I take the guy to Luna, buy my UE Fighter, outfit it with a few necessities, or what I consider necessities. A guy then asks me to take a load of cargo to the Paaren Station. Oh crap, I have 1 ton of cargo space. H needs like 10 tons or something. I try hiring a freighter. Oh crap, it still doesn't work. I don't want to get a cargo expansion, but it looks like I'm ging to have to. What I'll do is, get the cargo expansion, do the stupid runs, then, when all the cargo runs are done, I'll buy a new Fighter. This way, I'll have enough room for weapons/outfits/etc.
Anybody else want to share their progress so far in this Crew of One challenge?
Oh, by the way, I am using the following rules:
I mentioned it in the first thread on this topic... the 30 day trial for Executor mac emulator ran out a couple of weeks ago.. and it's not exactly good enough to pay for I feel. But at least I can spectate from the board here.. it's much less dangerous :).
You should really have kept your shuttle by the sounds of it.. it's perfectly adequate for doing the Paaren Station deliveries, but you'll definitely want something better for picking up the defector again in Chorca :)!
