Hmm, I never even thought of that! I'm missing stuff all over today! I suppose I could just buy a shuttle, and then when I'm done with all the cargo-ing, I could buy a UE fighter, that would probably save a bit more money.
Make a new pilot? No way! I won't get another disabled turncoat staring at me!

Progress report: bagged the big guy
That's right, after three attempts (he ran away the first time when I cloaked, and then I died twice), I killed the dreadnought in my crescent fighter, equipped with only four phase cannons and one blaze cannon. I must admit an incredible streak of luck, though. I disabled the first few interceptors with some quick cloak/decloak action, and the rest were finished off by the UE destroyers, who for some reason had taken out the dreadnought's shields and then gone after the fighters.
While they were tied up, I raced down to the dreadnought, which was ignoring me, and took a shot to get its attention. While I pecked away at 1500 armor, the UE destoryers returned from the hunt one by one to get in a few last hits before going down, leaving me and you-know-who. I took a few neutron hits, and almost died when a bunch of neutron bolts came right for me, but a stray asteroid saved me.
Finally, after disabling the thing and hacking away constantly for another 30 seconds or so, it started to blow. I moved across the screen to get far enough away to watch, not realizing that if you can see it, you're too close. The explosion completely downed my shields (no armor on a CF, either), meaning I was literally one hit from dead. I briefly considered sweeping the disabled Voinians in the system, but decided to jump out, thinking I should land and save the game as quickly as possible.
Sorry if there are any typos in here, but my hands are still shaking
------------------
I have completed Paaren Station, and upgraded my UE Fighter. It now holds three neutron cannons and a kit of Dospect Armor, making it excellent for taking down Voinians. Now that I've upped my combat rating by waxing a few frigates, I'm gonna start the Dreadnought Missions. If I can, I'm going to complete the Anna Balashova missions, the needle Jammer missions, and the free Huron missions as well.
Okay, mister Dreadnought, say your prayers!

I was in my luxurious shuttle, taking a shipment of metal to molos. I jumped into the system, and becase I was playing with a calculator while I hyper jumped, I didn't see what happened. All of a sudden, the klaxxons go off, and I see myself blowing up. I look at the screen, and I see 2 UE Fighters around me, and 2 UE Destroyers around me. When I blew up, the Destroyers started to fight each other! Because I was dead, I couldn't target the guys, and see who they were. Do regular UE people go after U.E.S. Incontovertible? I get the feeling thats who it was. Why else would 2 UE Ships be pounding each other with blaze fire?
Well, I'm away from home this weekend so no playing for me...tho I plan to get a UE fighter and upgrade it w/ neutrons and most importantly rockets. If I can get the UE fighter to have rockets, the dreadnought will be toast easily. As soon as I get back....heh heh heh

I haven't started on the challenge, nor have I even played EVO for a while, b/c I'm devoting my time to making my plug in which was at first a plug to add a new ship and some new weapons, it soon turned into an expansion plug, which has over 11 new ships, some good some evil. I have two systems almost done and I plan on adding several more to each side. But after I do this plug I'll start a new pilot file with strict play (never done that before, but what the hell, I'll do it anyway). I could never survive if I never did the Monty Python, but since most of you aren't doing the MP (mainly b/c several of you don't use it ANYWAY), and since I do it all the time, I'll cut back on the Monty Python-ing during Lent (LOL, j/k :D).
BTW, does the Helian have a crew of 1? B/C if it does, then that would be ship I'd work toward first, its better than a shuttle, combat worth (somewhat), works well as a cargo hauler, etc. The helian is a good ship, I'd use the Freighter-Courier, but that has a crew>1, so I can't use it.
Alles gute zum dieses PfΓΌng. -(trans: "Good luck to ye all on this test" (supposed to be contest, but I don't know the German for "Contest" but "PfΓΌng" ((sp?) trans: Test) worked just as well)).

Current Status: Saved up enough money for a CF, but did not have enough money to properly outfit it. Currently attacking and boarding renegades that frequent the Chorca system.
JediBrass - I have "limited" my use on MPing during this challenge, it's not that hard to succeed and not use it at the same time. I am working on my circling skills, and I am fighitng quite well in my little Fighter.
Well, I've upgraded to a CF and I am earning money in the Crescent with the Miranu. The majority of my creds are from daring Frontier Express runs in my shuttle. My rules are:
- Crew of one - Only freighter escorts - No Azdgari - No Monty Python - Strict Play (first-time, ejecting is downright irritating) > :frown:
I've actually started to use autopilot to attack enemies, until just a few days ago, I never knew it existed.

The crew of an Emalgha fighter is zero, if you stay in one too long. They're probably worse than kraits.
------------------ THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE! (Lies are in your head.)
Sorry, Helians have three. Shuttle, UE fighter, Crescent fighter, Emalgha fighter, that's all we have to work with.
You forgot Krait, StarStrafer. Not that it REALLY counts, but y'know.
Current Status: Still in CF Fighter "Icewind Falcon", begun Dreadnought Missions, currently have Cloaking device. 1.25 million credits. 4 Swivel Phase Cannons.
I keep getting this Stellar Corp Mission, this guy is like a drug dealer or something. The mission says "a Shady Stellar Corp character waves you over to a corner. "Want to carry a cargo run to gorky? No questions, good pay, stuff like that." Or something along those lines. I have NEVER been asked by stellar corp to do anything for them, aside from recruitment. Has anybody gotten this mission before? Unfortunately, I don't have enough cargo space for the mission. Where does this string go?
There are 3 different missions like that that you can get from SC. One is taking Saalian brandy to one of the pirate places. Another is a bigger special delivery to one of them. Those two pay about 500,000 credits, but you have to watch out for UE customs ships scanning you of course :). The 3rd is a commerce raid, kind of like in EV, which involves destroying an FE convoy.. in Omm as I got it. They rarely come up, but are probably worth doing, especially in this challenge :).
Hmm, in EV, it was like FE, I would get hoarded with those missions as soon as I opened the bar door. This is the FIRST time I have ever gotten this mission! AND, unfortunately, I don't have enough room in my CF "Icewind Falcon" to take the mission! D'oh!
P.S. I know I have said my ship name many times before, I just like it.
Right on both counts, Stud. I guess the very idea of flying a Krait strikes me as so absurd that it just slipped my mind.
Okay, I joined the hunt. My first pilot was on strict, bur a few helians blew my shuttle up and I forgot to eject. After that I started a new pilot not playing with strict, and now I am in my CF outfitted with neutron cannons and a cloaking device. I did the Dreadnought and Paaren station missions, and now I'm hunting for the Anna missions ("AB missing..." ). I'm also trying to get the Pariah missions.
OK this sounds chellenging, I will try it, but I will never catch up to you people I will be following these rules:
Strict No escorts No Azdgari One crew Limited monty python(its a habit) No plug ins
------------------ --The Eye is Upon you-- If you look long enough the Sun isn't that bright.
Well, this is rather annoying, I have been sitting around doing FE missions when I took one to Outpost Gamma. I go there and punch the afterburner figuring that this will be a simple mission, next thing I know, there are fifteen or so rockets flying at me. I punch the afterburner to try and dodge but I collide with enough to kill me several times over....ah well, back to upgrading I go.
Good evening, brave warriors. In answer to Blackdog's question about the version of EVO being used for the challenge: I assumed that most people would be playing the newest version of EVO, so I am also playing 1.0.2 to keep it fair. Yes, I know that this version has a number of changes which make this challenge more difficult... the decreased shields for fighters and the fact that as your CR gets better so does the AI are two of the more evil ones.
I continue to be pleased by the responses here. The current list of challengers as I have it is: Samurai, Allenthar, Opalius, VoinianAmbassador, slksc, StarStrafer, Giule, iMox, Kalle Koskinen, and Stud Beefpile, and the certifiably crazy Strict players JediBrass, Great White Godfather, Ubermann, kiwi_a2, and myself. Deepest apologies if I've missed anyone.
I've discovered a nice trick for using the Crescent fighter that doesn't involve Monty Python and would seem to be completely fair.
StarStrafer - I have a pretty good idea what you're referring to here. Yes, it is completely fair, but I wouldn't post it just yet. The idea is to give people a chance to learn for themselves how to use the advantages of a fighter. Congrats on the Dread. I think you're the first to report bringing it down. Bring your fighter by the dock, and we'll paint a Dread on the side of your cockpit.
Great White - Yeah, small ships don't give you much time to eject. It's happened to me before, too. Teaches you to be quick on the 'command-E.'
Stud - Glad you decided to jump in after so much consideration. Seems like you're pretty concerned about cash flow, though. Keep in mind, 4 rush deliveries for SC equals a new UE fighter. Also my guess is that the UE Destroyer you saw that screwed you up so bad was John Cook, the barbarian accountant. He's evil. I have only seen him early in the game, like when I'm in a shuttle, and he shows up in UE space & will always attack the player. By contrast, if you don't start anything with the Incontrovertible, it won't harm you.
JediBrass - I'll look forward to the plug.
Well, now for an update on my status in the Challenge (as if any of you have read this far in my post). I decided to work on my CR as soon as I could get some cannons. I flew to my favorite proving ground (the DSN just "west" of Bakka), and took out a Frigate... in my shuttlecraft. So my CR jumped to Above Ave & I thought I could get defector mission. Instead I made quite a bit of cash before finally getting offered it, because it took over an hour of flying missions and checking bars before it came up. I zipped over to Pax and promptly got blown out of the sky on my way back out of the system. Twice. Then I remembered something about Strict: you lose the slight speed advantage you get when you're playing regular. By the time I was offered the mission again, I had bought a Crescent Fighter to tool around in, and I jogged past the defenders with no more problems. Then I switched to a UE Fighter to work some more on my CR. I had to sacrifice one fighter to practice, but killed two more Frigates with my next one, so I'm up to Dangerous. Currently, I'm chillin' in UE space looking for the last of the Paaren Station missions.
And I didn't get to play this weekend, so all this was last night.
I wanted to close with something for the people making fun of the Krait. According to Shayborg, "the madly skilled pilot Ankh Starrunner is reputed to have killed the dreadnought in a krait," so maybe it's worth trying. I think that would be harder than killing the Dread in a shuttle since there's less room for error.
Apologies for the length of this post, but as the person issuing the Challenge I had quite a bit to respond to, especially since I was offline this weekend.
Continued luck in your quests, Paradigm
Well here goes, I'm starting the challenge. I'll be playing by:
+Strict +Crew of 1 +No Azdgari +No MP (Gulp) +No escorts
