EVO Extras

I've put together a few small plugs for EVO which you can download from the link in my sig - "EVO Extras". If people could check these out and provide feedback on them I'd appreciate it. In particular, make sure the asteroid plug works properly - the idea here is that the asteroid disappears immediately after you board it.

Enjoy 🙂

Heh. I clicked on that to download it and my browser shut off. Instantly...

DEATH PLUGS!!

Looks good. I might just download the EVO conversion again just for this...

Yikes, that wasn't supposed to happen. Have you managed to download it now?

Btw, the link for Facelift in the Read Me is now active (it wasn't before). It links to version 1.0.3 which was just released - if you've been running Facelift you may now update 🙂 (minor changes from 1.0.2)

I tried running EVO for Nova 1.0.3 with EVO Facelift 1.0.3 and EVO Extras, and I got messages that Nova wouldn't load.

I came back for another try

Okay, I thought. I was just a fluke. An accident. It won't happen again. Still, with a disturbing feeling like I was taking my life into my hands, I moved my mouse over.

Over.

Ov-okay, ready to click.

Deep breaths.

click

Tense pause. Oh no, why is it saying that the safety of this file cannot be verified!?!? Danger! Danger!

Grimly, I pressed "Continue download"

I waited for-

Hey, it's done downloading. And I still have a browser! DUDE!

I'll need to find time to check it out sometime. But for now, it downloaded.

And remember folks, the alamo!!!

Lies! Um, I mean... Fixed now, thanks. Also fixed something with the non-FL PP. Download from same link.

Anyone who does the asteroid mission, do let me know whether it worked for you or not.

Works great now!

EDIT: The game crashes whenever I try to enter the Sumer system.

This post has been edited by Geek : 26 September 2007 - 10:20 PM

Is that with the asteroid mission? If not, is it caused by one of the plugs? What does the debug log say?

This post has been edited by Guy : 26 September 2007 - 10:36 PM

Not during the asteroid mission. However, I did recently complete that mission, and it was the Coke machine. 🙂

The last line of the debug log is:

entering system 366 (Sumer)

nothing after that.

I think I've got clues. Look at EVO Facelift Base in MC. There are two modified systems, Omm and Sumer. They both show a spöb ID number that doesn't appear with the spöbs in EVO Facelift Base. Omm doesn't make Nova crash, but Sumer does.

Got it, it's looking for asteroid types which don't exist. The EVO port used to have its two asteroids at different IDs, then I moved them but didn't think about Facelift (Omm doesn't have any asteroids). Thanks for reporting this, I'll see if I can surreptitiously upload a fixed version.

waits very impatiently

Okay, Facelift is up again :). Um, I don't have a 'fix' plug for it as such I'm afraid. But I also updated Extras - MM now makes rocket turrets use normal rocket ammo.

Okay, things are working now. Will keep you posted. You'll find me quite a thorough tester. I plant to explore every system, seek out new life, and new civilizations, to boldly go...

Nice plug set, Guy.

.... But if "Mischievous Mods" lets the player circumvent the inclusion of turrets in the count of guns, the readme should include a warning that it makes the game significantly easier than the developer intended. Though it's probably the most-requested change in EVO gameplay, pac might call it a cheat plug. 😉

Well it is called 'Mischievous' ;). Though one of his arguments is no longer true - AI ships in Nova can fire every weapon they have at once. Also, I for one would never max out both guns and turrets because it's annoying to have your turrets tracking a ship to the side and have your guns all firing forward at the same time, possibly hitting some innocent or allied ship in front of you. My main annoyance with the turrets taking gun slots is that it limits secondary weapons which take up turret or gun slots, namely the Phased Beam. This is a problem for the Zidara because it comes with 2 Phase Turrets and 2 Phased Beams yet only 3 gun slots. Since the beams can't be sold you really only have one turret slot - if you sell one of those Phase Turrets you can't buy it back.
Anyway, though I wouldn't say 'significantly' easier, feel free to call it cheating. I call it cheating to make the cloak persistent, since you're specifically told it can't be removed. I just thought it was really mean though, so I changed it 😉
