My first experience was actually with Override, and not the original. I got version 1.0.0 off of a borrowed MacAddict CD and installed it on my old Performa 630, then had to turn on Virtual Memory to run it . I didn't read the manual at first, instead reading the backstory and assuming those menacing red fighters buzzing back and forth were the dreaded Voinians. After being eradicated by them a few times, I went and read the manual. I remember it was quite a challenge for me to get the ship close enough and slow enough to land on Earth. Also on the first day I repeatedly challenged Voinian Frigates, and thought I had them bagged because I always lowered their shielding, and at the end, minutes before my mom made me go to bed, I bought a scoutship.

When I first played EV, I actually didn't play EV. You see, I copied the app from a friend's computer, and it was loaded with cheat plugins. So I started the game up, and was able to purchase everything for one credit. Thinking this was it and that EV was a stupid game, I threw it out. For some reason, I decided to try the game out again. So I downloaded it, and, of course, became a Confed. Then I came to these boards, and the rest is history.

(..) About then is when most people try the Argosy.
Heh.. I love the Clipper and see the Argosy as an unnecessary evil (to fly, not to fight ). Always have.
Anyway.. it was back in '96.. and I know I read the manual. Didn't have any trouble at all, although I may have fallen prey to pirates a few times. I still remember going to the western pirate system (well, I didn't know it was there at the time, I was just exploring) and running out of fuel in one of the empty systems.
Heh.. a first and a last.

Just two tips for you. Firstly color changes aren't supported by this version of UBB, I belive it was an Ambrosia modification, and secondly, img tags aren't allowed in sigs either, again, due to an Ambrosia mod, and a brief fad of people trying to out do each other with random sigs...
As for the first time I played EV, to be honest it was that long ago, I've forgotten exactly what I did. I do remember I was hooked from the first second of play, in fact the game was the reason i bought my first mac <IMG SRC="http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/smile.gif" HEIGHT="15" WIDTH="15">
